Interesting, enlighting, and fun

I was very encouraged when I read that there was so much history in New York, and realized that there was much I did not know. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and energetic, and organized her tour as more of a "storytelling" experieince. Which made it interesting, easy to follow and understand. Walking through the streets as she shared the sights and stories of that time in history helped you visualize what it was like back then and how important the events were to forming the country. I was fortunate in the fact that there were only 2 of us on the group that day, so it was very personalized. Our tour guide encouraged questions, and keep us going at a comfortable pace. The time just saled by. Also, our guide spent some time at the end of our tour giving us some tips and suggestions that we might enjoy while in the city, which was very kind. Overall, I would recommend this tour....history buff or not. It is interesting to see NY through the "Revolutionary Years", because it gives you a more vast perspective and view of the city which helps you appreciate it's contribution and how it helped shape our nation.

A Civil War enthusiast from England

I have had a deep seated interest in the Civil War for some 45 years. My wife and I love New York. This was our third visit in the past 7 years. I was intrigued by the tour knowing that the Confederates did not get further north than Gettysburg. The tour provided a fascinating insight into the history and also to present day New York. Karen was an enthusiastic and knowlegable guide. I learnt a great deal and throughly enjoyed my trip. My wife was also throughly entertained and said that if Karen had been her history teacher, she would have taken a much greater interest! It was a compelling and informative two hours which was also totally entertaining

If you love history or just want to learn more about lower Manhattan in the 1700s, take this tour! Karen, our tour guide, was a walking encyclopedia of facts, names, dates, and events, all woven into very interesting stories. To see the old buildings still standing was incredible. Take this tour! You walk slowly and stop often. I can't wait to take another one!

A Great Tour

I have studied the American Revolution extensively and was absolutely delighted with the tour and my tour guide Karen. I was very impressed not only with her knowledge, but her ability to bring 18th century New York to life out of the concrete jungle which is modern day lower Manhattan. While the tour itself was excellent and thoroughly enjoyable, I was most impressed by Karen's offer to discuss the time period in depth after the tour was over. Due to my almost fanatical interest in the American Founding I had many questions which would have seemed uninteresting to the average tour-goer, but her willingness to discuss the time period on a deeper level with me was the highlight of my trip to New York.

i only went on this tour because my mom (on a revolutionary kick) wanted to, but i ended up learning sooo much! our guide, karen, was such an expert! she talked and kept us interested for 2 and a half hours! i learned so much and so did my mom (who already read a bunch of books on the era). it was a short walk and we stopped several times so it's not hard at all. just don't go when it's too cold or bundle up. very highly recommended!!

My boyfriend and I went on this tour with my parents who are both very interested in American history and we had a wonderful time. I learned so much about NY, even after living here for 8 years, that I wouldn't have known otherwise. I liked it so much I want to sign us up for the Civil War tour the next time we're all in town! Our guide Karen was extraordinary, we all liked her very much and you could tell she is extremely passionate about her love for American history, but she doesn't make you feel at all uncomfortable for asking questions. In fact, she seems grateful to share her passion with others. What more could you ask for from a tour or your guide? I also thought the price was very fair for the amount of information you acquire and for the level of expertise that's shared. I hope others enjoy it as much as we did!

Entertaining and educational

The tour far exceeded my expectations. Karen, the guide, had a vast storehouse of knowledge about the topic, answered questions readily, and took the time to explain things. She cross-referenced several sites that we would see the following day on the Revolutionary War tour. Clearly, she continues to build upon her knowledge by researching historical documents and sites to learn as much as she can on the subject matter. The two hours passed quickly and as we left, we were anticipating what we might learn the next day's tour.

We went on a cold December morning, but the three hour tour seemed to go by too quickly, that's how enjoyable it was. We learned so much. Our guide was super-knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and very friendly. I look forward to taking tours from her again when i'm back in NYC. tom - Atlanta

A great way to spend a few hours in Manhattan! Karen, our tour guide, dished up so many interesting tidbits about the goings-on in the "town" that the time just flew by. It's amazing what bits and pieces are still present in today's lower Manhattan to tie the whole story together. Duane Reade is more than a drugstore chain!

My wife and I took this tour on the first day of our stay in NY. We loved it. It gave us a good sense of where the spirit of New York (and New Yorkers) came from, something we thought about for the rest of our trip. Even if you don't like history, go on this tour. It is not dry. The guide is EXCELLENT--enthusiastic, knowledgeable, friendly, and sensitive. Again, strongly recommended. You will learn why and how New York became New York!

Extremely Interesting and informative

Our guide, Karen, was very knowledgeable and knew the history of New York (Revolutionary War Era) thoroughly. Presented a lot of information in an extremely interesting manner. Seeing the actual setting where some of the history she discussed took place made it all the better. In addition she also had early maps, etc., on hand to present as she talked. If we were in NYC longer, we'd take any tour that she is giving.
