| This was without doubt one of the best walking tours I have ever taken. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and clearly loves her subject matter. She answered all questions with ease and was a pleasure to spend a few hours with. We learned quite a bit and will highly recommend this tour to all our friends travelling to New York. If you enjoy history even a little bit, do not miss this tour!! | ||||||

| We cannot recommend this tour highly enough. It was excellent. Karen brims with enthusiasm and knowlege and is able to put it all over in a very clear and engaging manner. A lot of information is imparted about locations and context but it is never dry or dull - just completely fascinating. This is all supplemented by very good use of maps and illustrations. If you just want a wander around whilst having a few sights pointed out this is probably not the tour for you but if you really want to understand and feel the history of the sights and their context in the city and in this key event in American history then sign up now! We were only sorry that our schedule did not permit us to go on Karen's Civil War tour as well - next time definitely. | ||||||

| This tour was great. The group was small which made it very interactive. The guide was very knowledgeable, and was able to answer all of our questions. She really enjoys giving the tours, and she makes the tour a lot of fun. We took the Revolutionary War tour and liked it so well, we decided to take this one. We just wish there were more tours to take! This is a great way to see Lower Manahattan and learn about history! | ||||||

| What a wonderful tour! I was somewhat indifferent to a "Revolutionary War Tour" and couldn't imagine how anything currently in Manhattan could relate to that time. Boy, was I wrong! It seems like ALL of lower Manhattan is Colonial! Who knew?! Don't miss this one! | ||||||

| My dad, my 16 year old son, and I took the Revolutionary Tour this past Thursday (4/05/07). We were very impressed with how knowledgeable our tour guide, Karen, was on the history of New York during this time period. Her passion and enthusiasm came through. A wonderful experience, and very enjoyable. We learned a lot. Since Karen has actually worked in this area of New York, she was able to relate the history of New York with some of the current events since 9/11. I especially appreciated the e-mail communication prior to the tour. Very quick turn around on all my questions, etc. Excellent tour. I would highly recommend to anyone interested in Revolutionary Era history and points of interest in lower Manhattan | ||||||

| This tour was the best part of our trip to NYC. Karen Quinones was so informative and knowledgeable about the years surrounding the revolutionary war. She had terrific stories about the people that lived during that time and not just facts. My mother and I took the walking tour in the end of March, 2007 and we both loved the tour with Karen. If you love American History you will love this tour. We could have walked and talked with you for hours!! Thank you so much for a wonderful experience, Karen and Iris from Delaware | ||||||

| My wife and I took this tour on a somewhat cold and blustery day, but the time just flew by for us. My wife had just read 1776 by David McCullough so she was very interested in this tour and she was not at all disappointed. The tour was small and they do prefer to keep them small. The sites we saw were very well planned out and the story was well thought through and extremely informative. We did not spend much time in the sites which is fine because it's much more important to hear more interesting details from the guide. We went back to several sites the next day. Certainly, the best part was the knowledge and enthusiasm of the tour guide. I would recommend this tour to any with an interest in our country's history. | ||||||

Nice tour but not much "walking"

| It was a cold windy day in downtown Manhattan and I was expecting there to be a little more walking in this tour. I found the content interesting and, as a native, learned a lot about revolutionary NYC that I never knew. I found learning the history of things I've walked past a million times also very compelling. Still, it seems the tour would have been more appropriate for a summer day. In most cases we would walk half a block and then stop for 10-20 mins hearing another interesting bit of history. I suggest that on cold days the tour should be designed for a little more walking while outside, and a little more than two stops inside (we stopped only in St. Pauls and Trinity). | ||||||

| Karen Quinones of Patriot Tours is a walking encyclopedia... with personality. Her knowledge of the people and events that shaped New York City during the Revolutionary War era is impressive, and her passion for the subject is infectious. She clearly has a love for this period in history and has researched it well. We took our time, winding through the streets of lower Manhattan, while her attention to detail made every story come alive. I happened to take a tour with her on a particularly cold and windy day, but this did not prevent me from enjoying the experience. Never once was I bored or distracted, even though I live in Manhattan. Accompanied by copies of old maps, broadsides, and historic engravings, Karen's enthusiasm and vivid descriptions enabled me to "see" the original shoreline of Manhattan, the fervent efforts of the Sons of Liberty, the quaint homes that lined the narrow streets, and Washington's retreat from the British... and much more. I intend to take a tour with her again (in warmer weather) -- she is just that good! | ||||||

| We had a large group of diverse ages and backgrounds. The tour guide was excellent; she engaged all members of the group, making the tour entertaining, interesting and informative. She was gracious and helpful. It was the best walking tour that I have been on and I have recommended it to friends. | ||||||

| A walking tour....definitely a different concept of touring this illustrious island called Manhattan, but vital in order to experience the passion, commitment, and dedication of those who courageously came before us. While listening to the comprehensive, as well as descriptive explanation of a multitude of historic events, you are literally transported into this significant period of time. As an American, more now than ever, it is paramount for each of us to understand the values, mission and determination of our previous settlers. Their creativity, selflessness and passion is reflected and communicated by the talent of this passionate American guide. This is a must for those of you who care about this nation and understand that it is those who came before us that have generously bestowed upon us what we have inherited today. This powerful tour gives this generous gift to each of you. | ||||||

| I have a confession to make -- I'm a walking tour addict. I've been on at least two-dozen different walking tours in London, a half dozen in New Orleans, and another half dozen in NYC. So I've been exposed to dozens of different tour guides, each with their own style and breadth of knowledge. The Civil War walking tour of NYC is far and away one of the best I've ever been on. I've been on the World Trade Center walking tour, and it's a joke compared to this one. If you're an American history buff, you'll eat this stuff up. Karen has gone to great lengths to not only research the era she talks about, but also to obtain copies of documents, paintings, newspapers, drawings, and cartoons of the period. For 2 solid hours she passes along more historical information than you can believe. If only history class had been this interesting when I was in high school I might have paid more attention! As Karen leads you through lower Manhattan, you'll gain a new perspective on the Wall Street and City Hall areas. I could almost see the way things looked 150 years ago, thanks to the visual aids Karen brings along. Nearly every step of the way she points out a fascinating artifact, architectural detail, or geographical oddity. I learned more about Manhattan in those 2 hours than anyone born and bred in Manhattan even knows! I should also add that I had the luxury of a private tour, given that I made my reservation during the slowest time of the year and somewhat inclement weather. Karen graciously gave me the full tour with just as much enthusiasm as if the tour had been fully booked. I was also fortunate enough to spend some time after the tour discussing other aspects of politics and history with her, and I can say that she really does know her stuff. She was familiar with many obscure details of American history that few people I know are aware of. She is clearly passionate about what she does and really puts her heart and soul into it to give you the very best tour possible. If you are at all interested in the history of NYC or its role in the Civil War, this tour is an absolute must. You will not be disappointed, trust me! | ||||||
