Great Stories, Well Told

| This tour was excellent. We have done a fair amount of reading on the revolutionary era, mostly the current biographies - Adams, Jefferson, Washington, Franklin, Hamilton, but we are by no means scholars. The engaging stories our guide told added greatly to what we already knew. Our guide was able to make the places and events come alive, which is no mean feat in the context of walking through modern day Lower Manhattan in the middle of a work day. She was able to bridge the gap between then and now, giving us a sense of what it was like then and connecting the characters and events to the current scene. But beyond the content, our guide was upbeat, friendly, flexible and a great story teller. While staying largely on her plan, she fielded all questions with good humor and nimbly refocused her presentation to fit the emerging interests of the group. All in all a great experience and over too soon. | ||||||

| Karen was great! She was so knowledgeable. She did a wonderful job of communicating a vast amount of information in such a fun and memorable way.We learned more on this tour than any we have ever taken. This tour was definitely more that we expected. We saw more sights, more architecture, and heard more about the history of New York than we had anticipated. We absolutely loved it and we have already recommended it to many people. Thanks so much! | ||||||

Outstanding Tour Guide

| My wife and I took three tours on this trip to New York. This tour we took on Monday, April 3, 2006. All three were good, however, this tour was extraordinary. The knowledge and personality of the tour guide set this tour apart from the other two. She was focused on the theme of the tour and was not distracted by the all the activity around downtown New York. Although she did mention the effects of the loss associated with the Trade Center, she did not focus on it. She focused on the history of New York City, particularly with regard to the Revolutionary War period. It was evident that she was passionate about this era of history and was able to demonstrate that passion to those of us who were on the tour. Twice during the tour we were approached by drunks. Both times she was able to diffuse a potentially disruptive event with a minimum of disruption. Overall, this tour was outstanding and I would recommend it to both native New Yorkers and visitors. | ||||||

| It was an interesting tour, perhaps better than it would otherwise have been, since my wife and I were the only ones there. The tour guide seemed like she might be pro-Bush, and that turned me off. She was a nice woman, however, and I learned a lot. If you have bad knees, be careful, it's a long tour. Wear your knee brace if you have one-I should have. I would recommend going in warmer weather, when it's at least 55 degrees or warmer. | ||||||

A Very Worthwhile Tour

| Our tour guide Karen was a weath of information concerning historical events that happened in New York and the surrounding areas. If you enjoy history, especially the colonial and American Revolution era, this is a must do tour. We learned so much in just 2 1/2 hours. We were able to see many historical places in Lower Manhattan. Karen is constantly researching to add more information to the tour. She is able to present a lot of interesting, unique tidbits of information that make the 2 1/2 hours fly by. We hope to get back to New York someday and take the tour again. | ||||||

| Karen did such a nice job of telling, showing, and explaining the history of lower manhattan during the Revolutionary time period. We have been wanting to do a tour like this one for a long time and am so happy that we finally did it! I cant wait for next year! I think we will try the Civil War tour next! | ||||||

| While a bit of an info overload for my 10 year old, my 13 year old recognized much of her recent Social Studies curriculum and really got into it. It was great to get a deeper understanding of our hometown's history and make conections to the significance of things we see every day. Karen was superb! She was friendly, professional and informative. | ||||||

A different historical context.

| The stories and information brought a little more to the table than what we are taught in school. It is interesting to listen to how things have not changed politically or how little we have learned from our own history. It would be great if we had someone like Washington who only cared about the success of the country and not about his own ability to get elected. Someone who would be honest and not spend all his time telling us what he thinks we want to hear. | ||||||

| We saw 3 Broadway shows and ate at 3 fine restaurants, but our tour is what we continue to talk about! It was fascinating, fun and gave us such great information. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and we are already looking forward to next year to go on the Civil War tour! | ||||||

| Our tour guide, Karen, made history come alive with events people and places along the tour. Karen's excitement and love for the topic spilled over to us, making the tour interesting and informative. We had watched DVD Disc 1 of the Ric Burns PBS series on New York, and so we wanted to actually see where the events took place. However, watching this program is not necessary, because Karen is able to guide the tour at any level from novice to highly knowledgeable and tailor the experience to the audience. We would do the tour again, and we highly recommend it for those interested in the history of New York and it's role in the development of the USA. | ||||||

| we very much enjoyed the tour because we were the only one on this tour and the guide was able to change the tour from its original concept to meet our individual knowledge. Besides that the guide was having a good knowledge about all we wanted to know and was speaking clearly in an very entertaining manner. Thanks a lot We will join other tours during our next stay. Especially if there will be an architectural tour Best Tim Böger, Petra Botz and Finn Böger | ||||||
