Excellent walk. Guild knew her stuff and answered everyones questions. Would highly recommend this walk to anyone interested in history and seeing more of NYC than expected. After the walk, Battery Park was very interesting place to spend a couple of hours relaxing or with the vendors.

Well worth the time and money.

The guide was knowledgeable and very cordial, ready for any question. While the tour is packed with interesting highlights, the pace is comfortable and unhurried. Whether your interest in this historical period is casual (at least a little prior knowledge is recommended) or specialized, you will come away having learned more. The guide makes a point of adjusting her commentary according to the background and interests (warfare, politics, commerce) of the individuals taking the tour. Well worth the time and money.

The NYC Patriot Revolutionary War Tour

Wow! Our guide really knew her "stuff". She was friendly and took a lot of time to give us a really wonderful tour. Her insight and knowledge of the sites and related material on the tour made a very informative and fun time for us all. We live in a very historical part of Northwest Pennsylvania near Lake Erie and it was nice to get the "East Coast" point of view about this important time in our nation's history. BRAVO!!

Not to be missed Revolutionary Era Tour

My husband and I have been on dozens of walking tours in European and Asian cities. We both agreed this was one of the best. Karen's enthusiasm and knowledge supported by visuals was superb. We thought a two and a half hour tour would be long but the time flew by. Understanding history in the context of the city was so insightful. This tour is a special treat not to be missed.

What a wonderful tour! I was somewhat indifferent to a "Revolutionary War Tour" and couldn't imagine how anything currently in Manhattan could relate to that time. Boy, was I wrong! It seems like ALL of lower Manhattan is Colonial! Who knew?! Don't miss this one!

Nice Change of Pace

The Civil War Walking Tour was very enjoyable and informative. The guide was articulate and knowledgeable, and our group was small. It was a nice change of pace from the normal touristy things to do in New York like riding the double-decker tourist buses. I would rate the tour even higher for history buffs.

Disappointed

Unable to take tour due to last minute illness of tour guide. There is no contingency plan if the tour guide is ill. We were offered alternative tour times, but we were only in NYC for the day and had planned whole day around tour.

Excellent Tour. Very Knowledgable Tour Guide

My dad, my 16 year old son, and I took the Revolutionary Tour this past Thursday (4/05/07). We were very impressed with how knowledgeable our tour guide, Karen, was on the history of New York during this time period. Her passion and enthusiasm came through. A wonderful experience, and very enjoyable. We learned a lot. Since Karen has actually worked in this area of New York, she was able to relate the history of New York with some of the current events since 9/11. I especially appreciated the e-mail communication prior to the tour. Very quick turn around on all my questions, etc. Excellent tour. I would highly recommend to anyone interested in Revolutionary Era history and points of interest in lower Manhattan

Amazing Tour! Wonderful Guide Karen

This tour was the best part of our trip to NYC. Karen Quinones was so informative and knowledgeable about the years surrounding the revolutionary war. She had terrific stories about the people that lived during that time and not just facts. My mother and I took the walking tour in the end of March, 2007 and we both loved the tour with Karen. If you love American History you will love this tour. We could have walked and talked with you for hours!! Thank you so much for a wonderful experience, Karen and Iris from Delaware

Brings life and reality to pages of history books.

Our guide provided a wonderful supplement to what histories we've read regarding a period in history that was revolutionary not only on our continent but in Europe as well. Walking the ground provided a feel for forces at work within a very small area that influenced the thought processes, strategies and tactics of both military and political leaders in the years that led up to the American Revolution. Seeing the terrain as it was in 1775 through the revolution, you gain an up close feel for the worries and frustrations that faced Washington, Howe, and Clinton when they considered their strategies. We came to appreciate the importance to both sides represented by New York and its harbor. Our guide wove into the story of New York the influences of the colonies to the northeast by personalities such as John Adams and Samuel Adams, and the colonies from the south through personalities such as George Washington as commander of the continentals. Our guide provided insight into some of the more interesting New York native personalities who posititioned themselves to be successful no matter what the outcome of the war. We developed a great deal of respect for these characers who worked for the welfare of their families no matter what ,and who played key roles in slowing the progress of the British and provided invaluable intelligence to the rebel cause. Our guide was knowledgeable on the terrain and how it affected both the British and American forces; the landmarks in lower Manhattan that date to the Revolutionary era and the roles they played as a backdrop to the revolution; and the personalities at work during the period -- famous personalities, infamous personalities, personalities of local fame, and personalities little mentioned in highschool and college history books. We're looking forward to the Civil War tour in a future trip to New York

Wealth of Information and Knowledgable Leader
Fri, Mar 23, 07   1:15 PM katsas Female 20-29 Domestic Tourist(s) Individual
Our tour leader knew so much about the New York area and it's various political, historical, cultural and social differences. The Civil War tour was great for history buffs, but also a great resource for teachers. If you can take this tour and present it to your class or better yet take them on the tour, it is really worthwhile. You will see many little streets that you would never walk through when visiting New York City. I have been to the city several times and had never seen some of the places we visited. Our tour leader is obviously well-read and has many interesting visuals to add substance to the times she is telling you about. I enjoyed this very much!
