I highly recommend this tour. The tourguide was enthusiastic and highly knowledgeable. I really got a feel for the time through her stories that she told as we walked between the landmarks and historical sites. I also really liked the pictures that she carried - they helped me to visualize the era.

My boyfriend and I went on this tour with my parents who are both very interested in American history and we had a wonderful time. I learned so much about NY, even after living here for 8 years, that I wouldn't have known otherwise. I liked it so much I want to sign us up for the Civil War tour the next time we're all in town! Our guide Karen was extraordinary, we all liked her very much and you could tell she is extremely passionate about her love for American history, but she doesn't make you feel at all uncomfortable for asking questions. In fact, she seems grateful to share her passion with others. What more could you ask for from a tour or your guide? I also thought the price was very fair for the amount of information you acquire and for the level of expertise that's shared. I hope others enjoy it as much as we did!

Having already attended the Revolutionary Era tour and loving it, I was unsure what to expect from the Civil War tour. Typically, I don’t think of NYC as being heavily involved with the Civil War, but was pleasantly surprised. The tour guide, Karen, was a delight, and full of historical CW tidbits. I learned info from her that I would probably never have gotten out of a book. It is the small details that help to form a picture in your mind and she is great with that piece. I hope to bring my sons, ages 14 & 11, to both tours in the near future. It was informative and fun to learn and know that they will enjoy the experience as well.

My friend and I attended the Revolutionary War walking tour in the AM; and the Civil War in the PM. We had a great time for both. For the Revolutionary tour, I found the small details discussed and the humor in which the Colonists "debated" interesting and funny at the same time. Seeing the landmarks of important happenings was such a neat thing. So much history happened in New York at this time and seeing it come to life through our guide, Karen, was great. She was funny, knowledgeable, and it was apparent she loved her job. Her enthusiasm for the history was contagious. If you like history, you will love this! Highly recommend!

It was my first trip to NYC and it seemed so vast and intimidating at first but Karen helped give it a focus and made it more easy for me to relate to it not only in terms of where things were located geographically but its rich history, and some determining factors of the characteristic of the people of NYC- their buoyancy, perserverance, and strength. I learned some historical trivia and many facts, saw pictures of NYC during the Rev. era and got to know a few others who seemed to love American history as much as I do. I'd recommend it to everyone!

Karen Quinones offered an enthusiastic and engaging tour. At times I found myself wishing that she had started by setting out a few specific themes to integrate the immense amount of information she shared. That would have helped give more structure to the vast, detailed knowledge she conveyed. But that point aside, it was still an excellent tour--both informative and entertaining. She loves the subject, knows an immense amount, and is an outstanding speaker. Highly recommended!

Our tour guide provided us with a thoughtful and complete review of New York's colonial history. She was enthusiastic and engaged us in the tour as well as pointed out modern day connections to history throughout the city. It was a wonderful way to spend a morning and learn more about our nations history.

Thoughtfully links the modern city to theCivil War

This tour was well constructed and covered a variety of Civil War topics. The story about General Daniel Sickles and his ties to New York was interesting. Would have been great to hear more about New York's contribution to the War - i.e. how many regiments came from New York, how many men enlisted, and some famous individuals. The information about the 1863 draft riots was revealing - it would have been great to get more details on this, some example incidents during it, and how it changed the city afterwards. Overall, the tour provides a good introduction to an admittedly large subject matter that could support an even longer tour and route.

Karen's tours are the best!!!!!

Karen is the best. She has done extensive research to provide her clients with not only a historically interesting tour but her knowledge of and enthusiasm for the subjects are infectious. She manages to bring the history of New York alive with the stories of the people involved. This is NOT just a sight seeing tour that tells you a few facts and points out a few old buildings, you feel immersed in the events of the day. I have been to New York City twice and have taken the Civil War and Revolutionary War Tours, they are a highlight of both of my vacations. I look forward to going back to see what Karen has added to the line up. Dr. Curtis R. Wheatley

I'm local and was looking for something to do with my family from out of town -- people who are never satisfied. We signed up for the Revolutionary Tour and it was the best thing we did in NYC, and among the best "tourist" activities I've done PERIOD. When people think NYC, they think Broadway shows, shopping, etc., but I don't think people consider how NYC impacted the founding of America -- just as much as Boston or Williamsburg. Our guide, Karen, was friendly and super knowledgeable. We could tell that she had a passion for NY and history, not that she just memorized a script. She could answer any question related to the buildings, the time period, really anything. Karen kept a great pace and the time flew by. She peppered the more basic info -- the history of the buildings and whatnot-- with a lot of trivia about the people and politics of Revolutionary-era New York. And she was a total delight. Having taken other tours like this one in many American tourist areas (Boston, Virginia, DC) and abroad (London, Paris), this absolutely ranked at the top of my experiences. It's well worth the time and money. I highly recommend this tour for natives and tourists alike.

Excellent Presentation!

My family really enjoyed the Revolutionary War presentation. The historian was outstanding. In our opinion, the walking tour could be improved in the following ways: (1) Keep the discussion to 2 hours, more is not always better, (2) Help the audience understand the time line of events, jumping from event to event in a non- linear fashion was sometimes difficult to follow, (3) Teach both the macro and micro, the narrative is well told by laying out the big picture of the conflict and then personalizing it with entertaining stories about the individuals involved in the places that these event occurred.. These are mild criticisms as the walk was a lot of fun and the presenter really knows and loves her subject. Thank you!!
