| Coming from San Francisco, we just don't have the same kind of "old" as New York City, so we especially enjoyed finding out about the early days of Manhatten and our nation. The walk was thorough but not too strenuous. I liked being on the streets rather than just seeing things from a bus window. Our guide provided great insights and obviously knows her stuff. One thing that I would have appreciated was some pointing out of other sites that we passed along the way (the NY Stock Exchange, that bull sculpture, Ground Zero). Of course, I am sure it is hard to stick to the point of the Rev War with centuries of history in every block! All-in-all, the tour was good and I recommend it. Because of the tour, our 12 year old has a much better sense of how people were living in those days -- and what it meant to be an occupied land -- than he could ever get from a book. | ||||||

The Rudest Tour Guide(owner) Ever!

| It took us 30 minutes to find the meeting place - the NYC Police couldn't figure it out either, but eventually we stumbled on the location. We expressed our difficulties finding the meeting place, and several others in the group expressed similar concerns. Then the Owner/Tour guide said the directions were "easy to understand," but we and others noted that they were not, and those of us who speak English as a second language had particular difficulty with following them (not to mention the cab driver, MTA employee, and the traffic police officer). She actually told us that maybe we should just get our money back since we wouldn't understand the tour anyhow since we couldn't understand the directions to find the meeting spot ... since English was not our first language and we were not able to follow her perfect instructions. Apparently, those of us whose first language is not English are too stupid to participate in this activity. We decided to give her a chance to redeem herself, but she continued to be rude during the tour and probably worse, the majority of her content was not civil war era information. We paid for a civil war era history tour, but instead more than 50% of the information she presented pertained to after 1900 and much of it regarded architecture. We left during the last 15 minutes because the rudeness directed at us never let up. BTW, I am a retired American history professor . This tour guide/owner needs to work on her civil war information, customer service orientation, and manners. | ||||||

| My husband and I are in our mid and late sixties. We don't do so well just ambling around. This tour gave us a focus to see the financial district as well as the battery and also to learn of New York City's role in the revolutionary war. If asked before this tour if George Washington and his forces were on Manhatten I would have probably said no. I learned a lot and enjoyed this tour. | ||||||

| We had such a great time on the Revolutionary walking tour. Having lived in NY all of my life it was fun to step back into time and learn the history of NY during the American Revolution. The tour leader was not only extremely informative she was a fantastic storyteller and captivated the group as she recounted historical events, anecdotes and helped to put you in the mindset of the folks living during revolutionary times. | ||||||

| The Revolutionary Era tour was of personal interest because of my own long-ago family ties to the city of that era, but, even beyond that, the narrative was informative, told with humor and illustrated with documents and newspapers from the Revolutionary era. The stroll through lower Manhattan took in places familiar to many - Trinity and St. Paul's Churches, the Stock Exchange - and places I'd likely not learn about on my own - the old Bowling Green, sites of early businesses and homesteads, and the narrow streets (reminiscent of old London) and original shorelines of the lower isalnd. It's good to know and remember the part that the community and landscape of New York City played in the confusing and pivotal times surrounding the Revolution. | ||||||

| I certainly enjoyed my Civil War Walking Tour. My guide was very informative and friendly. I liked that she had pictures and newspaper articles from the era we were discussing as they made everything much clearer in regards to the demographics of that time and the present. I would highly recommend this tour to other Civil War buffs, and I plan to take her Revolutionary War tour if I return in the future. | ||||||

| This was without doubt one of the best walking tours I have ever taken. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and clearly loves her subject matter. She answered all questions with ease and was a pleasure to spend a few hours with. We learned quite a bit and will highly recommend this tour to all our friends travelling to New York. If you enjoy history even a little bit, do not miss this tour!! | ||||||

| My husband chose the Revolutionary War Walking tour as a way to enjoy our free afternoon in NY. I wasn't sure it would be as much fun for me, but decided to go along. This tour turned out to be so detailed and interesting that I had as much or more fun than my husband did. The facts that the tour guide presented were not dry , boring statistics. She had fully researched her talk and included many intimate little verbal portraits of how life was during the 1700's. She also had illustrations and maps to show us how NY looked at the time. I had never even considered what NY looked like before it was NY. The tour ended up being nearly 3 hours due to the thoroughness of the information given at each of the sites we visited. The actual walking was not strenuous and we even got to sit for a while at one location. We plan to schedule a day for the Civil War tour given by this same guide as I anticipate another afternoon of exciting facts and good conversation with her. She really knows her stuff. Highly recommend this to both history buffs and those, like myself, who have forgotten more than we ever knew. about the Revolutionary War. ( thanks the Mailman family.) | ||||||

| This tour was great. The group was small which made it very interactive. The guide was very knowledgeable, and was able to answer all of our questions. She really enjoys giving the tours, and she makes the tour a lot of fun. We took the Revolutionary War tour and liked it so well, we decided to take this one. We just wish there were more tours to take! This is a great way to see Lower Manahattan and learn about history! | ||||||

| My husband and I brought our seven year old daughter on this tour because she watches Liberty Kids about the Revolutionary War, and learned a little bit about it in school. We all thought this would be a great way to understand the war better and learn a little bit more of what happened in our city. What we found was information that was way over her head. We didn't finish the tour because she was so bored and really didn't care about the sites. The tour is NOT ment for young children as they have a short attention span and it wasn't fun for her. I think this tour would have been fun for her had there been some kind of brouchure with activities on it for her. We took her to Ellis Island and they have a little brouchure that kids use along with the tour that make it fun for the kids. I think this would be a good idea to use for this tour as well. As for my husband and I we would love to take the tour again without our children. Even though we left early, we found the tour to be full of information and the tour guide was very nice. She was really great at answering questions not just about Manhattan but about the other boroughs in the city and what roll they played in the war. | ||||||

| My husband and I have been on dozens of walking tours in European and Asian cities. We both agreed this was one of the best. Karen's enthusiasm and knowledge supported by visuals was superb. We thought a two and a half hour tour would be long but the time flew by. Understanding history in the context of the city was so insightful. This tour is a special treat not to be missed. | ||||||
