| My wife and I took this tour on a somewhat cold and blustery day, but the time just flew by for us. My wife had just read 1776 by David McCullough so she was very interested in this tour and she was not at all disappointed. The tour was small and they do prefer to keep them small. The sites we saw were very well planned out and the story was well thought through and extremely informative. We did not spend much time in the sites which is fine because it's much more important to hear more interesting details from the guide. We went back to several sites the next day. Certainly, the best part was the knowledge and enthusiasm of the tour guide. I would recommend this tour to any with an interest in our country's history. | ||||||

| I had fun. I learned many interesting things about NY and the revolutionary war. I got some exercise. The tour guide was enthusiastic, her fund of information was extensive. Her presentation was perfectly enjoyable. It was a great way to spend an afternoon, and I learned something besides. This tour guide is a gem. | ||||||

| My 8 year old son is a history fanatic, particularly military history of the US. We've been on historical tours in DC as well as Boston but never in NY. I'm from NY and love this old section of town though I'd never realized the extent of history that was here. My son loved it too and was fully engaged for the entire tour. Karen did a great job of bringing the history to life and making it an enriching and memorable experience. We plan to to the Civil War walking tour on our next trip to NY. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BY US!!!! | ||||||

| My husband and I thoroughly recommend this tour and have told all our friends about it. This afternoon provided a wonderful visual for all of the books we've read about the revolutionary war (Jeff Shara) and movies (Gangs of New York). Our guide was well-informed, prepared, and enthusiastic. She was so helpful by providing laminated articles and pictures of the original "New Amsterdam" sights as compared with the current sights. The old Wall Street was amazing. St Paul's Chapel and Trinity Church - breathtaking historical landmarks. Although it was cold and windy, we didn't mind because we were "in the moment" and were prepared with hats, gloves, and warm shoes. Most importantly though, the guide kept us moving and through her stories of the activities by the Sons of Liberty and the militias. These gutsy New Yorkers and their independent spirit and heroics that helped this country win the war against England helped us tourists understand how the same gutsy New York spirit overcame 9/11. Our guide even allowed a quick stop at a Starbucks for some warm beverage and a rest room stop. A great afternoon and we will definitely take another tour. | ||||||

| The tour owner /guide was pleasant, answered any and all questions and provided us with an enjoyable tour. She was very knowledgeable as she talked about not only the events of the Revolution as they were connected to New York, but also shared tidbits about some of the people involved in the historical events. I think we will take her Civil War tour in the future | ||||||

| This is an excellent tour of lower Manhattan. The tour guide was also the owner and she was extremely knowledgable of the area in general, and the history in particular. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who is interested in the historical aspects of New York City or even someone who justs wants to see some of the historical sights of the city. | ||||||

| I have a confession to make -- I'm a walking tour addict. I've been on at least two-dozen different walking tours in London, a half dozen in New Orleans, and another half dozen in NYC. So I've been exposed to dozens of different tour guides, each with their own style and breadth of knowledge. The Civil War walking tour of NYC is far and away one of the best I've ever been on. I've been on the World Trade Center walking tour, and it's a joke compared to this one. If you're an American history buff, you'll eat this stuff up. Karen has gone to great lengths to not only research the era she talks about, but also to obtain copies of documents, paintings, newspapers, drawings, and cartoons of the period. For 2 solid hours she passes along more historical information than you can believe. If only history class had been this interesting when I was in high school I might have paid more attention! As Karen leads you through lower Manhattan, you'll gain a new perspective on the Wall Street and City Hall areas. I could almost see the way things looked 150 years ago, thanks to the visual aids Karen brings along. Nearly every step of the way she points out a fascinating artifact, architectural detail, or geographical oddity. I learned more about Manhattan in those 2 hours than anyone born and bred in Manhattan even knows! I should also add that I had the luxury of a private tour, given that I made my reservation during the slowest time of the year and somewhat inclement weather. Karen graciously gave me the full tour with just as much enthusiasm as if the tour had been fully booked. I was also fortunate enough to spend some time after the tour discussing other aspects of politics and history with her, and I can say that she really does know her stuff. She was familiar with many obscure details of American history that few people I know are aware of. She is clearly passionate about what she does and really puts her heart and soul into it to give you the very best tour possible. If you are at all interested in the history of NYC or its role in the Civil War, this tour is an absolute must. You will not be disappointed, trust me! | ||||||

| Our Civil War guide would probably enjoy some of the walking tours offered in Charleston, SC. Civil War was not all about slavery. States and individual rights very much a part of the conflict, as was (is) the propensity of Northern Protestant clergy to know best for all. On the whole, we enjoyed our tour. | The tour was interesting -- but not compelling enough to warrant 2 1/2 hours in a steady cold downpour. At several stops, there was an awning or building overhang just a few steps away but the guide was not flexible enough to allow us to stand anyplace other than the exact appointed spot. Between spots, she allowed her conversation to be monopolized by one young man, leaving the rest of us out of the discussion. | ||||||

| We truly enjoyed the tour. The great detailed history was more than we expected. We truly felt like we got more than we bargain for. We have recommended the tour to several people since then. It is a great tour idea. I hope it grows to more areas. | ||||||
