Unbelievably interesting!

This walking tour turned out to be so much better than we had even anticipated. Warm, friendly and very knowledgeable, our guide had experience working in the financial district, which brought even more to the tour. Told in story form, and interwoven with current affairs, this historical walk through downtown Manhattan was an easy walk, full of humor, and unbelievably interesting. My 18 yr. old son thoroughly enjoyed it--now that says something! Don't miss this one!

Educational and Informative

We found this tour initially mentioned in a NY Times article, though not this specific organization. I read McCullogh's '1776' and the tour guide was familiar with the text. We had excellent discussions about Howe, Washington, Hamilton and other people mentioned in the book. The events leading up to the revolution in New York were also discussed. It was truly interesting and informative, particularly for us, as we are History Enthusiasts. The guide was extremely well-informed and brought reprints from period newspapers and other documents which made the experience more meaningful. It is difficult to imagine NYC at that time, as it is so different today -so built up. I highly recommend it.

Karen was a great guide of lower Manhattan. She is very knowledgable and enthusiastic about the subject. I am looking forward to returning to NYC and taking her architecture tour sometime in the future.

Nice tour but not much "walking"

It was a cold windy day in downtown Manhattan and I was expecting there to be a little more walking in this tour. I found the content interesting and, as a native, learned a lot about revolutionary NYC that I never knew. I found learning the history of things I've walked past a million times also very compelling. Still, it seems the tour would have been more appropriate for a summer day. In most cases we would walk half a block and then stop for 10-20 mins hearing another interesting bit of history. I suggest that on cold days the tour should be designed for a little more walking while outside, and a little more than two stops inside (we stopped only in St. Pauls and Trinity).

Outstanding tour

Karen was a knowledgable and passionate tour leader. She was outstanding!! She went past time with our permission because of her passion for the topic and her desire for us to learn as much as we could. She knew her field and covered it in a way helpful for a novice. While I'm a history buff, my wife is not and my wife learned a great deal and thoroughly enjoyed Karen. The revolutionary war tour of lower Manhattan was tremendous. I'd recommend it to anyone. This is a great walking tour of downtown Manhattan, especially if you are a history buff. Our tour guide was Karen--she was friendly, informative, and enthusiastic about her subject matter. She is full of anecdotes, stories, and history that I guarantee you never learned in your history classes! All in all, I would highly recommend this tour for anyone hoping to walk the streets of colonial and revolutionary New York City--you're in for a treat!

Knowledgeable and Well Presented

I had my step-father in town, who is interested in history and likes a walk. Having similar interests myself, I thought the Revolutionary Era Walking Tour would fit the bill. I've taken tours in other towns, for similar reasons - it's a good way to get a different view than most guide books could or would give you. So much, however, depends on the person presenting the tour - their knowledge and enthusiasm. I was both pleasantly surprised and very happy with the tour, the depth of knowledge and ability and willingness to present the information that was consistently displayed. I'd recommend this to anyone interested - and plan on taking another tour offered, such as the Civil War Era tour - when the time presents itself.

Fantastic Experience!

As a local resident, a short distance across the river, it was interesting to learn so much history about the Lower East Side. I cannot count the number of times I visited the area and new nothing about the history of the area! Also, on the tour, we were taken to little areas of the Lower East Side that I was not aware of. The tour it full of interesting information. The tour guide was a wealth of knowledge. I would recommended this tour for history buffs and local residents that are interested in learning about their neighborhood!

This was a most fascinating tour conducted by a very knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide. Not only did we see the sights and experience the sounds of New York but we learned many interesting facts about the revolutionary era. My wife and I are native New Yorkers, raised in Queens, who attended High School in Manhattan. But our tour guide had many stories to tell us that we did not know. She answered all our questions and brought history to life. We would recommend this tour most highly.

This is a really good tour. The lady who runs it has done her research and makes it interesting. If you do it in winter dress for winds.

My wife and I booked this tour and are glad we did! Karen is a wonderful guide and in very short order you realize she REALLY knows her history! She took the time to answer any questions and made us feel as if we'd been friends for years. Anyone interested in historical New York must take this tour!
