A one-of-a-kind experience !

Think that New York City cannot satisfy all of our tastes? Think again! If you are esoteric enough in your desire to know about the "Big Apple" during the American Revolution, then Patriot Tours will more than fit your bill. I found that our guide, Karen, effortlessly took us back more than two hundred years, making the City come alive during the uncertain and perilous times of our nation. The best part is that while the Tour guides you through the streets of lower Manhattan, your questions will decide and modify the course of your education, for apparently the knowledge of our guide is so vast that she can entertain any type of question that is of interest to you. In that sense, every tour is custom made according to it's participants and this is not a rote, by-the-numbers experience. Karen's supple mind and contagious enthusiasm make the two and a half hours fly by and I'm ready to do it again, with different questions!

Took the tour with another DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) member. We were very impressed With Karen's dept of knowledge. I highly recommend her and this tour. I knew a great deal about the period and the area before the tour, and learned much more from Karen.

Fascinating portrait of People, Place, and Era

My husband and I took two Patriot Tours in August 2008. This year we had time for just one, the Revolutionary Era tour. Once again Karen, our guide, provided a superb experience! We were amazed at all the facts she had at her command - the result of her diligent research in primary source documents such as newspapers, letters, and cemetery records. As we walked around lower Manhattan for 2 1/2 hours, she drew together stories of people and places to create a vivid portrait of the era. Names from the history books came to life, and through Karen's knowledgeable and enthusiastic presentation, we were able to gain insight and appreciation into what made that era and those people so inspiring. We highly recommend any of the tours offered by Patriot Tours, and plan to include one or more on every visit to New York City.

The perfect guide

We were two couples from Minnesota and had a great time. It's wonderful to walk the city with a guide who is bursting with knowledge--not just someone who knows the script. So we couldn't be more positive. Whether you love history or not, there was a lot there for you. My one suggestion: my legs aren't as good as the guides. Three hours without sitting is too much for me. With a little planning, she could find places for people on the tour to sit occasionally while she talks. Not to sit and waste time, just to sit as she talks. I found them for myself. But there where steps to sit on, benches to sit on, etc. She's so enthusiastic about what she describing, I don't think this crosses her mind. If she just went to each of the locations and looked around for a moment, there are places where people could sit as she talks. It was great. We'll recommend it to friends.

Karen was a great guide. She has done lots of research about the Revolutionary War era in NYC and tells stories in an interesting and personalized way. Many times we felt as though we were hearing the actual words of the men she was speaking about. I would recommend her highly and go on the architectural tour she said she was planning to start giving soon.

Our guide was so very knowledgeable of the Revolutionary War and the involvement of the local citizens in the era before, during and after the War. She helped us picture how the area would have looked at that time and how that affected the local battles. Our guide really transported us back in time. We enjoyed the personal attention and I am not even sure how many blocks we walked but it was not difficult at all.
