This is a fantastic tour -- it allowed us to learn historical information that we had never known before. Our tour guide was unbelievably educated about the topic and has trained herself so thoroughly. Her antecdotes made the Revolutionary era come alive to us. Perfect group size with 9 guests. We would highly recommend this tour and would definitely use Patriot Tours again. |

My sister and I, who are in our mid fifties and early sixties, debated whether or not we could physically endure the walking involved in this tour. After careful consideration we decided to give it a try thinking we could always drop out if it proved too much for us. We were both very glad that we took the chance. Our group guide was very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and interesting. She enlivened the historical facts with stories of real humans who either struggled and yearned for independence or struggled to support the system and crown they loved.
We on the other hand had our own struggles. We had been in New York for three days prior to your tour and had done a great deal of sightseeing so were already very tired. Your web site cautioned to arrive on time or the tour guide would start the tour without us. We were a few minutes early for the tour. However, our tour guide waited about thirty minutes for another person who had signed up for the tour just that morning. We had booked our tickets weeks in advance. The 30 minutes we stood waiting on this person made it very difficult for us to complete the tour. We did complete it but it was a struggle and we did not enjoy it as much as we could have.
The guide even made a comment that this person was behaving in a selfish way to expect everyone to wait for her but she waited nevertheless. We would have enjoyed the tour much more if we had been able to leave on time and not stand around sapping our already limited strength. |

This is my second time taking this tour, and I enjoyed it as much as the first. The guide is quite learned and so informative without losing your interest. If you like American history and the part NYC played in it, then you will really enjoy this tour. |

Our tour guide was well informed. She gave us a feel for the time period and what was going in New York and how New York fit in with what was going on in other colonies. She gave us information starting with the Dutch and the turn over to British. She also told of us stories of individuals, the roles they played and how they impacted the rest of the colonies. She also gave us suggestions on where we could go for more information and also suggested some of the places where we could go back and spend more time. We enjoyed this tour so much we look forward to go on the Civil War Tour. |

The tour was fantastic! I knew very little about New York City's role in the civil war apart from a few highlights. My guide was extremely knowledgeable and the I learned a lot about how the city influenced the war. I know quite a bit about the overall war, but had no idea of all the ties to the war effort.
The buildings and streets you walk down are amazing and the visuals along the way also help to bring the story alive. Even if you do not like history much, the tour is a wonderful way to see some of the side streets and lesser known places in lower Manhattan.
I can't wait to take my husband with me sometime to see the same tour! |

Our group really lucked out. There was a threat of ran, but thankfully the sun shown through the entire thing. Our tour guide was great and very knowledgeable. She talked of many interesting facts that I had never known before. I dragged my best friend along with me, and despite the fact that she hates history, she loved the tour as well. I would recommend this to anyone! |

Karen was very friendly and approachable and had a wealth of knowledge to share about Manhattan during Revolutionary times. She fielded questions easily, and could go above & beyond just her "set" talk. There wasn't as much walking as I had expected (which was good) because Karen would walk us a block or so, then we'd stand and listen. She really made it all come alive for us! A very good value for the money, too. |

Pleasant and informative tour led by a polite, prepared, and knowledgable guide. I was part of a small group, which allowed for frequent interaction between attendees and guide. A nice mix of topics were dicussed including street life, architecture, landfill history, local biographies, treatment of prisoners, and escape tactics from Brooklyn Heights. All my questions and comments were addressed quite satisfactorily. Enthusiastically recommended! |

I highly recommend this tour. The tourguide was enthusiastic and highly knowledgeable. I really got a feel for the time through her stories that she told as we walked between the landmarks and historical sites. I also really liked the pictures that she carried - they helped me to visualize the era. |

I was very encouraged when I read that there was so much history in New York, and realized that there was much I did not know. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and energetic, and organized her tour as more of a "storytelling" experieince. Which made it interesting, easy to follow and understand. Walking through the streets as she shared the sights and stories of that time in history helped you visualize what it was like back then and how important the events were to forming the country.
I was fortunate in the fact that there were only 2 of us on the group that day, so it was very personalized. Our tour guide encouraged questions, and keep us going at a comfortable pace. The time just saled by. Also, our guide spent some time at the end of our tour giving us some tips and suggestions that we might enjoy while in the city, which was very kind.
Overall, I would recommend this tour....history buff or not. It is interesting to see NY through the "Revolutionary Years", because it gives you a more vast perspective and view of the city which helps you appreciate it's contribution and how it helped shape our nation. |

I have had a deep seated interest in the Civil War for some 45 years. My wife and I love New York. This was our third visit in the past 7 years. I was intrigued by the tour knowing that the Confederates did not get further north than Gettysburg.
The tour provided a fascinating insight into the history and also to present day New York. Karen was an enthusiastic and knowlegable guide. I learnt a great deal and throughly enjoyed my trip. My wife was also throughly entertained and said that if Karen had been her history teacher, she would have taken a much greater interest!
It was a compelling and informative two hours which was also totally entertaining |
