My wife and I booked this tour and are glad we did! Karen is a wonderful guide and in very short order you realize she REALLY knows her history! She took the time to answer any questions and made us feel as if we'd been friends for years. Anyone interested in historical New York must take this tour!

Highlight of our trip
Mon, May 25  10:00 AM MDHeck Male 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
We did the things tourists usually do in NY - Broadway show, museums, restaurants - but our Revolutionary Era Walking Tour was easily the highlight of the trip. Beautiful weather and a small turnout on Memorial Day - our group of 3 was it - contributed to the experience, but it was mostly due our guide, Karen. She was friendly, entertaining, enthusiastic, and possessed a deep knowledge of the subject matter.

My time with Karen was well spent as we walked through downtown Manhattan, rich with history. All the stories, anecdotes and descriptions were finely detailed. I was especially pleased with the period cartoons that helped reinforce the emotion and conflicting opinions. This was a rare treat for those who appreciate the Civil War and the great ironies involved. There is so much to learn that we never hear of in traditional forums and public education. Truly an eye-opening experience and one not soon forgotten. I highly recommend it and consider is comparable to a crash course in New York history.

Another terrific Patriot Tour

I really enjoyed the Revolutionary Era tour; the Civil War era tour didn't disappoint either. Always friendly and open to questions, she does a great job of sharing interesting tidbits and little known historical facts that tie in with familiar stories/happenings in history. I enjoyed myself and learned a lot.

My wife and I took this tour on May 13th. Our guide was very personable and approachable. She made us the center of her attention and was open to any questions, even if they didn't pertain to the current topic. Very warm personality and told about places and events with energy to keep it interesting. You can tell she enjoys what she does and we look forward to taking another historic walking tour on our next visit to NYC in 2010.

This was one of the best tours I have been on. The guide was very knowledgeable and made you feel like you were there during the time period. Even history buffs will learn something new. The city has a fascinating history and the guide loves the city now and then. I highly recommend this to everyone!

Well Worth It

Karen is a wonderful guide through New York's part in the Revolutionary War. She has obviously done enormous research, knows her material so well and was able to impart a real sense of the times into her presentation. It was clearly evident that she loves sharing her enjoyment of history, as well as her depth of knowledge. I am so glad I signed up for the tour. This trip back in time was well worth the fee.

Both my son (25 and working in NYC) and I (his visiting mom) really enjoyed this tour. Karen brought alive Lower Manhattan during the Revolutionary War and the years not only leading up to it, but the years of Dutch settlement as well. Now I know that Water Street was so named because it was once a shore line street and Pearl Street got it's name because oyster shells were harvested along its shore. And Wall Street ... well, you can guess. Go take the tour and enjoy!

We saw 3 Broadway shows and ate at 3 fine restaurants, but our tour is what we continue to talk about! It was fascinating, fun and gave us such great information. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and we are already looking forward to next year to go on the Civil War tour!

What a wonderful experience!

Our tour guide, Karen, made history come alive with events people and places along the tour. Karen's excitement and love for the topic spilled over to us, making the tour interesting and informative. We had watched DVD Disc 1 of the Ric Burns PBS series on New York, and so we wanted to actually see where the events took place. However, watching this program is not necessary, because Karen is able to guide the tour at any level from novice to highly knowledgeable and tailor the experience to the audience. We would do the tour again, and we highly recommend it for those interested in the history of New York and it's role in the development of the USA.

Fun times and discoveries in Lower Manhatten
Wed, Apr 22  1:30 PM BeckyTyre Female 20-29 Domestic Tourist(s) Couple on a Date
I have been to New York City many times growing up, but I have never been able to see it the way I did during our walking tour! It was a rainy, crappy day, but the tour was great! It was a small group of us, which made it better to interact with our guide, Karen. And she knew SO much about the city (even the best places to stay dry during the tour)! It was really cool to walk the older Colonial streets, and see the buildings that have stood through so much! You can forget just how much history has occured on that little island - but you really get to see it first hand when you walk through it like this. My husband and I had a terrific time. We are history lovers anyway, but I think anyone would enjoy this tour. Just bring your walking shoes!!!
