What a wonderful experience!
Fri, Apr 24, 09   10:00 AM Uncledo1 Male 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
Our tour guide, Karen, made history come alive with events people and places along the tour. Karen's excitement and love for the topic spilled over to us, making the tour interesting and informative. We had watched DVD Disc 1 of the Ric Burns PBS series on New York, and so we wanted to actually see where the events took place. However, watching this program is not necessary, because Karen is able to guide the tour at any level from novice to highly knowledgeable and tailor the experience to the audience. We would do the tour again, and we highly recommend it for those interested in the history of New York and it's role in the development of the USA.

Fun times and discoveries in Lower Manhatten

I have been to New York City many times growing up, but I have never been able to see it the way I did during our walking tour! It was a rainy, crappy day, but the tour was great! It was a small group of us, which made it better to interact with our guide, Karen. And she knew SO much about the city (even the best places to stay dry during the tour)! It was really cool to walk the older Colonial streets, and see the buildings that have stood through so much! You can forget just how much history has occured on that little island - but you really get to see it first hand when you walk through it like this. My husband and I had a terrific time. We are history lovers anyway, but I think anyone would enjoy this tour. Just bring your walking shoes!!!

Our tour guide was excellent! She knew so much and shared it with us. The walk was fabulous, and it helped that the weather was great! Will definately take more like this!

I called and asked if I could postpone our tour. We had to return to Westchester to a sick child. No one returned my phone call. I am disappointed. Valerie Malsch

Very interesting tour. Karen described the history so you could picture in your mind how the area looked. We learned about many real people from that area and it made the history come alive. Looking forward to her history of the achitecture of NY tour! She has done hours of research and really knows her stuff.

I read 1776 by David McCullough about a year ago and got very interested in the history of the revolutionary era in new York. When I was in new York last week for five days I went on this tour with high hopes, and Karen completely surpassed my expectations with her knowledge, scope, and passion. I highly recommend this tour. My only recommendations to Karen would be to have introductions in the beginning so the group can be less formal. People like to know who their walking around with, even if it's only by name. Also, I would like to have more opportunity to ask questions, though I did so while walking and in between stops. Nonetheless, it was one of the most interesting and exciting tours that I've been on.

This was a fantastic tour. I learned a lot. Our guide was full of interesting stories and was obviously very well-read re: New York history. A great way to spend an afternoon for visitors and residents alike!

This is a great tour for locals and tourists. Karen is extremely knowledgeable about the era and history of NYC in general! This tour is best suited for UK and US tourists or NYC locals since the tour traces US revolutionary history through lower Manhattan. I really enjoyed the tour--and although I'm American my English husband and friend enjoyed it immensely as well.

Excellent Tour Guide - Interesting History

Our tour guide was excellent - very knowlegeable and engaging. I was a history major in college but must confess I did not know much about New York City's role during the American Revolution. The guide did an excellent job of describing the relevant events and players. If you liked David McCullough's "1776," you will like this tour.

we very much enjoyed the tour because we were the only one on this tour and the guide was able to change the tour from its original concept to meet our individual knowledge. Besides that the guide was having a good knowledge about all we wanted to know and was speaking clearly in an very entertaining manner. Thanks a lot We will join other tours during our next stay. Especially if there will be an architectural tour Best Tim Böger, Petra Botz and Finn Böger

Karen is as charming as she is knowledgeable about the American Revolution and the decades leading up to it. I went in with extremely high expectations and they were -- every one of them -- exceeded. I cannot recommend this tour too highly.

Our guide, Karen, was extremely knowledgeable. She made the Revolution come alive with the stories of the famous and not-so-famous New Yorkers who played a part in our Nation’s early history.

A great guide can make anything interesting. Karen was truly great, and the subject matter is highly interesting as well. So the tour was truly memorable! The tour covers New York from its founding through the birth of the nation. New York played such an important role! Fascinating stuff to be sure. I recommend listen to McCollough's audiobook "1776" before this tour to give additional context. Enjoy!
