Excellent Presentation of Revolutionary War Manhat
Mon, Nov 13, 06   10:00 AM bellinghamdl Male 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Other
The owner/tour guide for Patrior Tours did an excellent job of presenting Revolutionary War Manhattan. She was not only knowledgeable about the subject but was enthusiastic in her presentation. She gave prewar background to help you put yourself into the time period and was able to answer any and all questions put to her. I'm a tour guide myself in our state capitol and as such am probably more demanding than most. I can assure you the tour was thouroughly enjoyable and on a couple of occasions have found myself running some of her comments through my head post tour. A comforting thought is that she is not only the tour owner but also the only tour guide so you will be guaranteed the same quality tour I received.

We recently had the pleasure of taking part in the Revolutionary Era Walking Tour of Lower Manhattan! What a wonderful experience! I have already told a number of friends about this delightful adventure! Our guide for the tour was fabulous and very, very informative! I am going to recommend this walk to all friends planning to visit NYC. It was one of the highlights of our time in the Big Apple. Lawana Conry Plano, Texas

Our guide brought brightness to a grey, rainy NY day. No recitations from a standard tour book here; she had researched and constructed the history stories in an informative and interesting way, suitable for all age groups and backgrounds. My family group came from CA, SC and CT, and as we returned to my home via the Metro-North train, we told all the "peak time" commuters arround us about the fascinating day we spent in our Lower Manhattan neighborhood. I will take the Civil War tour at my earliest opportunity!

Still on vacation, so not spending much time on this. The tour guide has a firm grasp of the politics of the time, as well as the importance of each location we visited.

The guide was genuinely friendly, the meeting location was easy to find and get to and the tour was really informative. The 2.5 hours was well worth it. We arranged the tour for the day after arrival. It was great to stretch our legs and get a feel for lower Manhattan layout. A lot of information about the Rev War was shared and as we continued our traveling thruout the state we could tie information that was provided us in the tour with other information along our Hudson driving route, into Albany and even so far as the Erie Canal area.

Our guide, Karen, was very knowledgable about the Revolution in NYC. She was also concerned that we all enjoy ourselves. I observed that she found a way to talk with each of us indivdually as we made our way through the tour. The members of our group appreciated her interest in each of us and her concern that we have a good tour. This tour is a great way to spend part of an afternoon seeing lower Manhattan and learning about the early stages of our struggles to become a nation apart from England.

Outstanding Tour Guide

My wife and I took three tours on this trip to New York. This tour we took on Monday, April 3, 2006. All three were good, however, this tour was extraordinary. The knowledge and personality of the tour guide set this tour apart from the other two. She was focused on the theme of the tour and was not distracted by the all the activity around downtown New York. Although she did mention the effects of the loss associated with the Trade Center, she did not focus on it. She focused on the history of New York City, particularly with regard to the Revolutionary War period. It was evident that she was passionate about this era of history and was able to demonstrate that passion to those of us who were on the tour. Twice during the tour we were approached by drunks. Both times she was able to diffuse a potentially disruptive event with a minimum of disruption. Overall, this tour was outstanding and I would recommend it to both native New Yorkers and visitors.

Fun Tour

It was an interesting tour, perhaps better than it would otherwise have been, since my wife and I were the only ones there. The tour guide seemed like she might be pro-Bush, and that turned me off. She was a nice woman, however, and I learned a lot. If you have bad knees, be careful, it's a long tour. Wear your knee brace if you have one-I should have. I would recommend going in warmer weather, when it's at least 55 degrees or warmer.

I had a personal tour by the guide. She was very knowledgeable and I could tell that she really enjoyed giving the tour. I learned a lot and would recommend it to others who might be interested in the Revolutionary period in New York City.

Our tour guide was friendly and warm, and exhibited deep knowledge of the time period. Her enthusiasm was contageous, and it was fun to learn obscure facts about the area and the revolution. It was definitely one of the best tours I've ever taken.

Old New York & Revolutionary History Come Alive

My husband and I loved this tour. We learned so much about NYC and our revolutionary war history. We saw so many treasures that we would never have seen on our own and she really brought everything to life with stories about fascinating individuals and historical landmarks. We would recommend this to anyone. Our intrepid tour guide didn't short us a bit despite our being in the midst of a mild nor'easter!

A wealth of knowledge in a delightful presentation

This walking tour of Revolutionary NYC was a delight! Our guide was well informed of both well-known and obscure people in the period from 1765 to 1797 on Manhattan island. Her enthusiastic presentation displayed her love of the subject matter. Whenever applicable, she was able to cite the primary documents. We learned of the early workings of the Sons of Liberty in the context of New York's constant factional in-fighting, shedding light on why the New York assembly was so hesitant to come out for independence. Another highlight was learning of the battle of Brooklyn and the occupation of New York by the British, including Washington's spy ring. In all, it was terrific to hear the personalities of an epic time in US history come to life, warts and all in the places that they walked. I enthusiastically recommend this tour.

How many times do you walk through a city and read the brass plaques, but still have relatively no concept of the activity or the person it is commemorating? This tour, factually and passionately portrays the events, the people, the geographics and the politics of the time. Our tour guide's thorough knowledge of the time period enabled us to see past the skyscrapers and imagine the city of the 1770s. I would highly recommend this tour for anyone who wants to know more about the Revolutionary period or just the history of NYC. My favorite part was at the end of the tour. She will show you something that remains from the day the Declaration of Independence was read to the citizens of New York in the year 1776. This was the best 1.5 hours that I have spent in a long time! Next time I'm in NYC, I will sign up for the Civil War tour!

I found this tour fun and done in an untraditional

In school, I studied History because I had to. Nancy did a fantastic job putting together the Revolutionary war with the prominent names we are all familiar with but more importantly she told the untold history in an exciting story format with a cast of people I knew little or nothing about. Allot of surprises. If I had her as a professor, I would have changed my major. I can not say enough about Nancy and hoe much enthusiasm she has, and the excitement she brings. She is a great communicator and story teller. I was never bored and surprised at the thing I did not know and how interesting NY played during this time period. I would HIGHLY recommend, and in this economic environment it is a great way for all members of the family or visitors to NY spend a couple of fun hours!
