Kudos for Revolutionary Walking Tour of Manhattan

Having been on several walking tours that covered the Revolutionary Era in Lower Mahhattan, my hat off is off to the Patriot Tours version of this tour. While all the other tours I've been on ranged from commendable to excellent, the Patriot Tours tour was the best in that it provided the most depth of this era in NYC history and the guide was the most knowledgeable about this time period. Not only did she provide specific details about each site we stopped at along the tour but she also offered extremely interesting additional details as well, which indicated that she was well versed and well read in NYC history during the Revolutionary War era. I would highly recommended this tour to anyone who wants to know all the key facts and anecdotes, well known and not so well known, about the Revolutionary Era in New York City.

We truly enjoyed the tour. The great detailed history was more than we expected. We truly felt like we got more than we bargain for. We have recommended the tour to several people since then. It is a great tour idea. I hope it grows to more areas.

A Knowledgeable and Engaging Tour Guide

Karen Quinones of Patriot Tours is a walking encyclopedia... with personality. Her knowledge of the people and events that shaped New York City during the Revolutionary War era is impressive, and her passion for the subject is infectious. She clearly has a love for this period in history and has researched it well. We took our time, winding through the streets of lower Manhattan, while her attention to detail made every story come alive. I happened to take a tour with her on a particularly cold and windy day, but this did not prevent me from enjoying the experience. Never once was I bored or distracted, even though I live in Manhattan. Accompanied by copies of old maps, broadsides, and historic engravings, Karen's enthusiasm and vivid descriptions enabled me to "see" the original shoreline of Manhattan, the fervent efforts of the Sons of Liberty, the quaint homes that lined the narrow streets, and Washington's retreat from the British... and much more. I intend to take a tour with her again (in warmer weather) -- she is just that good!

Fascinating way to spend time in NY

My husband chose the Revolutionary War Walking tour as a way to enjoy our free afternoon in NY. I wasn't sure it would be as much fun for me, but decided to go along. This tour turned out to be so detailed and interesting that I had as much or more fun than my husband did. The facts that the tour guide presented were not dry , boring statistics. She had fully researched her talk and included many intimate little verbal portraits of how life was during the 1700's. She also had illustrations and maps to show us how NY looked at the time. I had never even considered what NY looked like before it was NY. The tour ended up being nearly 3 hours due to the thoroughness of the information given at each of the sites we visited. The actual walking was not strenuous and we even got to sit for a while at one location. We plan to schedule a day for the Civil War tour given by this same guide as I anticipate another afternoon of exciting facts and good conversation with her. She really knows her stuff. Highly recommend this to both history buffs and those, like myself, who have forgotten more than we ever knew. about the Revolutionary War. ( thanks the Mailman family.)

I read 1776 by David McCullough about a year ago and got very interested in the history of the revolutionary era in new York. When I was in new York last week for five days I went on this tour with high hopes, and Karen completely surpassed my expectations with her knowledge, scope, and passion. I highly recommend this tour. My only recommendations to Karen would be to have introductions in the beginning so the group can be less formal. People like to know who their walking around with, even if it's only by name. Also, I would like to have more opportunity to ask questions, though I did so while walking and in between stops. Nonetheless, it was one of the most interesting and exciting tours that I've been on.

I had taken the Revolutionary walking tour last year and was glad I was in NYC to sign up for the civil war one. It was very interesting. The tour guide knows her history and you can tell she loves history. Took us to areas I never would have found on my own. Learned information I never knew before - how much NYC was connected with the civil war. I recommend it for anyone who is interested in history and interested in a different type of walking tour.

I wanted a different but interesting tour of Manhattan and this was it. The tour was very interesting and informative. The tour guide was enthusiastic and very friendly. I liked the idea a small group on a walking tour, everyone could hear the guide clearly. The tour guide had visual aids and provided very interesting facts and information about Manhattan in the Revolutionary times. The guide really made the historical facts interesting and we really learned alot in just a short amount of time -almost 3 hrs but it sure didn't feel like it . The walking wasn't hard, perfect pace and saw interesting sights I would have missed if on my own. I highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in Manhattan and learning about the history. I can't wait to take the civil war tour and I hope more tours are added. This was a perfect, informative walking tour.

How many times do you walk through a city and read the brass plaques, but still have relatively no concept of the activity or the person it is commemorating? This tour, factually and passionately portrays the events, the people, the geographics and the politics of the time. Our tour guide's thorough knowledge of the time period enabled us to see past the skyscrapers and imagine the city of the 1770s. I would highly recommend this tour for anyone who wants to know more about the Revolutionary period or just the history of NYC. My favorite part was at the end of the tour. She will show you something that remains from the day the Declaration of Independence was read to the citizens of New York in the year 1776. This was the best 1.5 hours that I have spent in a long time! Next time I'm in NYC, I will sign up for the Civil War tour!

My husband and I took the tour on Wednesday 8/20/08. We had a wonderful time! Our guide Karen was just bursting with knowledge and information to share with her guests. Our group size was just right so we could gather around and hear what was being said clearly. I would definitely recommend this tour to everyone!

This is a great tour for locals and tourists. Karen is extremely knowledgeable about the era and history of NYC in general! This tour is best suited for UK and US tourists or NYC locals since the tour traces US revolutionary history through lower Manhattan. I really enjoyed the tour--and although I'm American my English husband and friend enjoyed it immensely as well.

It was an interesting tour, perhaps better than it would otherwise have been, since my wife and I were the only ones there. The tour guide seemed like she might be pro-Bush, and that turned me off. She was a nice woman, however, and I learned a lot. If you have bad knees, be careful, it's a long tour. Wear your knee brace if you have one-I should have. I would recommend going in warmer weather, when it's at least 55 degrees or warmer.

Karen did such a nice job of telling, showing, and explaining the history of lower manhattan during the Revolutionary time period. We have been wanting to do a tour like this one for a long time and am so happy that we finally did it! I cant wait for next year! I think we will try the Civil War tour next!
