History Lesson with Pizazz

I surpsrised my husband with a little get away recently to NYC which included one of the Patriot Tours. We took the Revolutionary War tour led by Karen. She arrived at the appointed time and place and promptly began the tour. We loved the tour. It was fun, informative and definetly worth the money. As a teacher, I would recommend the tour for any fourth grader or fifth grader in New York State who must take the state exam. Because the tours are small Karen is able to answer questions and tailor the tour to your interest in Revolutionary War history in New York State. For tourists from outside the state, the tour is perfect for understanding New York's importance in the revolution as well as the formation of our nation. She obviously has done her homework and one can see that she enjoys what she is doing. I plan on returning with our 11 and 10 year old sons and some of their friends as fun way to review local, state and national history during the 1700's. In addition, I am looking forward to taking the Civil War Tour. Happy walking.

Nice Tour, Less Talking, More Buildings

Our tour guide was good, very detailed and knowledgable. I learned many new facts about NYC. I was born and raised in NYC and worked downthown for years but never stopped to really look at what was around me. The buildings we saw were amazing, some I didn't even know existed. I am now going to take a more detailed tour of several of the churches we saw on the tour. The only negative was I felt the tour was a little too detailed at times. Otherwise it was informative and fun and I have already recommended it to others.

We took this tour on July 22, and have to give it rave reviews. I booked the tour for myself and my fiance, and another couple, as a present for my fiance's birthday. Both my fiance and my girlfriend are avid Revolutionary War Aficionados; me less so, but enthusiastic. It was informative, fun and our guide (the owner of the company) made it seem at times that we were really IN the New York of the 1700's. We all learned a lot (even the two "sort-of-experts") because there was so much more information that we'd never even heard of. I would definitely recommend this to anyone. We're thinking of taking the Civil War Tour in the fall. And lastly, I will never look at another Duane Reade drugstore without knowing what the names really mean! Thanks so much for a great day!

This tour made the revolutionary era come alive!

My family and I have taken many historical tours in different parts of the USA and this by far was one of the best. The reason was that the tour guide, Karen, was not only very knowledgeable but also passionate about history. The tour was listed as taking 2 1/2 hours and actually lasted 3 hours. The 3 hours flew by and we would have enjoyed listening to Karen for another 3 hours. Our 14 year old son said he also enjoyed the tour and learned great a deal. I recommend this tour to anyone interested in American History.

A one-of-a-kind experience !

Think that New York City cannot satisfy all of our tastes? Think again! If you are esoteric enough in your desire to know about the "Big Apple" during the American Revolution, then Patriot Tours will more than fit your bill. I found that our guide, Karen, effortlessly took us back more than two hundred years, making the City come alive during the uncertain and perilous times of our nation. The best part is that while the Tour guides you through the streets of lower Manhattan, your questions will decide and modify the course of your education, for apparently the knowledge of our guide is so vast that she can entertain any type of question that is of interest to you. In that sense, every tour is custom made according to it's participants and this is not a rote, by-the-numbers experience. Karen's supple mind and contagious enthusiasm make the two and a half hours fly by and I'm ready to do it again, with different questions!

I learned so much on this tour. I am taking a class on the History of New York City and this was so much better than any textbook. The guide was so knowledgeable and friendly. I would highly reccommend this tour to anyone who would like to get to know the city better.

Fun Tour

It was an interesting tour, perhaps better than it would otherwise have been, since my wife and I were the only ones there. The tour guide seemed like she might be pro-Bush, and that turned me off. She was a nice woman, however, and I learned a lot. If you have bad knees, be careful, it's a long tour. Wear your knee brace if you have one-I should have. I would recommend going in warmer weather, when it's at least 55 degrees or warmer.

Our tour was one of the highlights of my first trip to New York City. It was well planned, and very interesting. Our guide made the revolutionary history come alive. It gave us a very different view of a very busy and modern city, and allowed us the time to appreciate the beauty of historical Manhattan. I would highly recommend this walking tour and in fact already have.

we very much enjoyed the tour because we were the only one on this tour and the guide was able to change the tour from its original concept to meet our individual knowledge. Besides that the guide was having a good knowledge about all we wanted to know and was speaking clearly in an very entertaining manner. Thanks a lot We will join other tours during our next stay. Especially if there will be an architectural tour Best Tim Böger, Petra Botz and Finn Böger

The guide was very knowledgable and enthusiastic about the subject, with the use of some copies of original maps and documents showing the amount of work and effort put into the tour. An interesting subject brought to life with a guide who was open to all questions about the general area as well as the topic itself.

Lovely tour guide but tour not really designed for international tourists who are not fully informed on the history of the American Revolution. The tour guide was very knowledgeable on the topic but we couldn't follow some of the details (and time lines) as we only knew a small amount on the topic and the tour guide assumed we knew a lot more. As we were the only two on the tour we thought it could be tailored to us as international tourists but unfortunately it wasn't.

I definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting NYC. I enjoyed 100% of the tour and learned so much! I've been on great walking tours in other cities like London, but this was by far the best of its kind. I look forward to your Civil War tour next time I'm in the City. Thanks again, Yoni N., Rehovot, Israel.
