| I definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting NYC. I enjoyed 100% of the tour and learned so much! I've been on great walking tours in other cities like London, but this was by far the best of its kind. I look forward to your Civil War tour next time I'm in the City. | Our tour guide was excellent - very knowlegeable and engaging. I was a history major in college but must confess I did not know much about New York City's role during the American Revolution. The guide did an excellent job of describing the relevant events and players. If you liked David McCullough's "1776," you will like this tour. | ||||||

| I very much enjoyed the tour. I appreciated the enthusiasm and knowledge our tour guide possessed and her willingness to share. It was clear she was very enthused about the history of Manhattan in this era. Frankly, the tour set the stage for tour of Manhattan during the week...we were able to relate the different sites we saw to much of the information she shared with us on the tour. It was the highlight of the trip in a city of highlights. I'll take the Civil War tour on the next trip back. Thanks. Bob | ||||||

| We were looking to have a special day as we left Amsterdam on a bus trip with 3 bus loads from my fiance's office. They are the largest employer in Montgomery County where we live. Karen was interesting and personable. She really knows her stuff and linked it extremely well with our interests and personal knowledge as well. She included everyone in the group and kept it lively. | Good Tour! Tour leader was very well informed and presented the information well. She also knew a great deal about the architecture or the buildings in the area. We had a very small group so we were able to ask questions. She was able to give us a good picture of what lower Manhattan was like at the time of the Revolutionary War. The only drawback was ending the tour quite a distance from the starting point. I would recommend the tour to anyone interested in history and to seeing the island from a slightly different perspective. I was also quite surprised that the guide didn't ask for a tip at the end of the tour, very classy!. Well done. | ||||||

| I have a confession to make -- I'm a walking tour addict. I've been on at least two-dozen different walking tours in London, a half dozen in New Orleans, and another half dozen in NYC. So I've been exposed to dozens of different tour guides, each with their own style and breadth of knowledge. The Civil War walking tour of NYC is far and away one of the best I've ever been on. I've been on the World Trade Center walking tour, and it's a joke compared to this one. If you're an American history buff, you'll eat this stuff up. Karen has gone to great lengths to not only research the era she talks about, but also to obtain copies of documents, paintings, newspapers, drawings, and cartoons of the period. For 2 solid hours she passes along more historical information than you can believe. If only history class had been this interesting when I was in high school I might have paid more attention! As Karen leads you through lower Manhattan, you'll gain a new perspective on the Wall Street and City Hall areas. I could almost see the way things looked 150 years ago, thanks to the visual aids Karen brings along. Nearly every step of the way she points out a fascinating artifact, architectural detail, or geographical oddity. I learned more about Manhattan in those 2 hours than anyone born and bred in Manhattan even knows! I should also add that I had the luxury of a private tour, given that I made my reservation during the slowest time of the year and somewhat inclement weather. Karen graciously gave me the full tour with just as much enthusiasm as if the tour had been fully booked. I was also fortunate enough to spend some time after the tour discussing other aspects of politics and history with her, and I can say that she really does know her stuff. She was familiar with many obscure details of American history that few people I know are aware of. She is clearly passionate about what she does and really puts her heart and soul into it to give you the very best tour possible. If you are at all interested in the history of NYC or its role in the Civil War, this tour is an absolute must. You will not be disappointed, trust me! | ||||||

| Our guide provided a wonderful supplement to what histories we've read regarding a period in history that was revolutionary not only on our continent but in Europe as well. Walking the ground provided a feel for forces at work within a very small area that influenced the thought processes, strategies and tactics of both military and political leaders in the years that led up to the American Revolution. Seeing the terrain as it was in 1775 through the revolution, you gain an up close feel for the worries and frustrations that faced Washington, Howe, and Clinton when they considered their strategies. We came to appreciate the importance to both sides represented by New York and its harbor. Our guide wove into the story of New York the influences of the colonies to the northeast by personalities such as John Adams and Samuel Adams, and the colonies from the south through personalities such as George Washington as commander of the continentals. Our guide provided insight into some of the more interesting New York native personalities who posititioned themselves to be successful no matter what the outcome of the war. We developed a great deal of respect for these characers who worked for the welfare of their families no matter what ,and who played key roles in slowing the progress of the British and provided invaluable intelligence to the rebel cause. Our guide was knowledgeable on the terrain and how it affected both the British and American forces; the landmarks in lower Manhattan that date to the Revolutionary era and the roles they played as a backdrop to the revolution; and the personalities at work during the period -- famous personalities, infamous personalities, personalities of local fame, and personalities little mentioned in highschool and college history books. We're looking forward to the Civil War tour in a future trip to New York | ||||||

| My sister and I, who are in our mid fifties and early sixties, debated whether or not we could physically endure the walking involved in this tour. After careful consideration we decided to give it a try thinking we could always drop out if it proved too much for us. We were both very glad that we took the chance. Our group guide was very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and interesting. She enlivened the historical facts with stories of real humans who either struggled and yearned for independence or struggled to support the system and crown they loved. We on the other hand had our own struggles. We had been in New York for three days prior to your tour and had done a great deal of sightseeing so were already very tired. Your web site cautioned to arrive on time or the tour guide would start the tour without us. We were a few minutes early for the tour. However, our tour guide waited about thirty minutes for another person who had signed up for the tour just that morning. We had booked our tickets weeks in advance. The 30 minutes we stood waiting on this person made it very difficult for us to complete the tour. We did complete it but it was a struggle and we did not enjoy it as much as we could have. The guide even made a comment that this person was behaving in a selfish way to expect everyone to wait for her but she waited nevertheless. We would have enjoyed the tour much more if we had been able to leave on time and not stand around sapping our already limited strength. | ||||||

| I and my wife and daughter visited New York City for a week in mid August. I was mildly interested in the American Revolution in New York tour, my wife more so. All of us were surprised by how much we enjoyed this activity. Our teacher was knowlegable, able to tell an interested story over a period of 2 hours, and skilled in knowing what facts in the story were salient, which were not. She was also extremely enthusiastic, clearly enjoying her task. The experience as a whole felt more like a string of interesting discoveries, less like a straightforward lecture. Her narrative was well conceived to match the order of buildings and streets we visited, but also shaped nicely into a broader beginning-middle-end narrative. THe experience overall has encouraged me and my wife to begin reading more about this subject. Truly, this was one of the most enjoyable parts of our New York trip, and we strongly recommend it to other visitors. | ||||||

| Karen is a wonderful guide through New York's part in the Revolutionary War. She has obviously done enormous research, knows her material so well and was able to impart a real sense of the times into her presentation. It was clearly evident that she loves sharing her enjoyment of history, as well as her depth of knowledge. I am so glad I signed up for the tour. This trip back in time was well worth the fee. | ||||||

| We went on the revolutionary era walking tour on July 4th with a group ranging in age from 12 to 85. Everyone loved it! The walking was not too strenuous, with many opportunities to rest for a few minutes at the the tour stops. Our very friendly tour leader was a delightful fountain of knowledge. Her descriptions and the photographs she brought really made the history come alive. I would love to take the other tours on future trips to NY. I have nothing but high praise. | ||||||
