OK but not a MUST DO

The guide was friendly and had some interesting Philadelphia history to share but we felt the chosen vendors weren't "the best food in town" venues. We found several others during our trip that actually had comparable or better food. Perhaps you should reassess your choices of vendors as owners/cooks may have changed since your initial start of the tour. We enjoy restaurants that are authentic in their food and the people who prepare it.

A fun activity!

I would definitely recommend this tour for people who enjoy tasty food, are comfortable on their feet for a couple of hours and want to learn a bit about Philly's history. It was a great way for me to taste some of Philly's specialties and see a part of city's downtown area that I otherwise would not have visited. A great activity, whether traveling alone or with a large group of family and/or friends. I am vegetarian and was easily accommodated!

Great Tour for Food Lovers

Our Taste of Philly Tour was great. First bit of advice :: if the tour meets at 1:30 and you are stayig closer to the historical sites (we stayed at the Holiday Inn Express) off of 4th, give yourself at least 30 minutes to walk downtown. It is a short and easy walk, but you tend to hit a lot of street lights, making it longer. We were lucky to be the only ones on the tour for the day. We had a fabulous tour guide named Judy. She was so friendly and so informative. She also seems to really love what she does making it feel like she really enjoyed being there. The food was all great. There was tons of it. We started with the philly tomato pie, a big piece, then had the cheesesteak, cheese fries, pretzel, hoagie, chocolate covered pretzels and ended with a big cookie.... anyone who says there was not enough food either missed half of the tour or has an appetite the size of Texas.... we had to make room for food since there was sooo much. This is a great tour. You get to learn the history of downtown, see some historical sites and eat enough to fill you as an early dinner. If you only have one day in this city and you want to do this tour and see the historical sites, I would recommend having breakfast early, getting out right when the historical sites open, around 8am, and that should give you enough time to see everything and get to the tour. This is a small city and everything is close together.

Great food and tour!

The tour was great! We really liked the Philly food, and the route along the way was more than we expected. The guide did a terrific job of informing us about where we were and how it came to be. It was much more than just local cuisine. Definitely worth the money and a "must do" for a Philly tour. I wish I had bought soft pretzels to bring back to Alabama. Tomato pie was a favorite as was the Philly cheesesteak. This tour was a highlight of our stay in Philly.

If you are looking for something fun to do for a couple of hours that involves food sampling while digesting fun facts about the history of Philadelphia at the same time, then this is the tour for you. This tour is great for both tourists and natives, and does involve some modest walking. But you do taste a little bit of everything Philly - from terrific tomato pie, to delicious, warm pretzels (although my mother did not like standing on the sidewalk while we ate them), to a small section of a Philly cheesesteak and a savory, fresh hoagie to a few pieces of chocolate to the thickest chocolate chip cookie I have ever tasted. Special thanks to our outrageously entertaining and wildly knowledgeable guide, Mike. Buono appetito!

I liked the tour because it was something different. There was ALOT of bread!! but it was fun just to hang out with friends in the city and taste some local favorites. I am planning to take a different tour with my husband in the near future.

What an awesome tour. From the very beginning to the very end, the tour was informative, funny and unique. The history lessons were second to none and the tour guide (can't remember her name) was very personalable & energetic! The venues/restaurants that participated really offered delicious & plentiful foods. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone, even locals!

Interesting history coupled with tastes of Phila
Fri, Jun 4, 10   1:30 PM CarolBLee Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
This is not a gourmet tasting tour, but includes the highlights of specialties of Philadelphia (soft pretzels, tomato pie, hoagie, cheese steak, cookies, chocolates). Coupling the history of these foods in Philadelphia and other key historical facts makes this an especially delightful, pleasing and fun tour. Recommended for all ages.
