Cheap Food, not suitable for International tourist
Sun, Mar 14, 10   1:30 PM xueningc Female 20-29 International Tourist(s) Group of Friends
The food they provide was very cheap. The taste was just so so. They only ordered one type of food in one place. I think it is not enough to understand the differences among foods. For example, they just mentioned about there were two different types of cheesesteak and different cheeses, but only bought one. Moreover, I think it is not good for international tourists who lack the background of US history. Sometimes, it is difficult for us to catch up.

This tour provided an excellent introduction to Philadelphia. Our tour guide was knoweledgable and enthusiastic. We learned both about the city, and its food. The food was delicious and we returned to several of the venues after the tour, during our visit to Philly.

The tour was very informative and our guide was great. You do not however go to the big name eateries such as pat's for a steak. Overall a pleasant afternoon.

Everything that was promised

Originally this was to be a surprise for my wife as we were headed to Philly to visit our newborn grandson. The tour was scheduled during the week before our other children arrived or were working. The tour had to be postponed and we didn't go until Saturday of that week. By then there were six of us (actually seven with the baby) because one by one they each wanted to take it in. Jamie was our tour leader and related great anecdotes about the Philly he knows so well. What became a pleasant surprise was the sites we visited. I guess I had assumed the tour was all about the food but we learned a great deal about the city. My son and daughter-in-law, who live in Philly, learned new things as well. While this wound up costing us a fair amount (we paid for everyone), it was a great day for our family. I would recommend this tour for anyone visiting the city - especially a family or small group.

The Tour Guide was excellent. She was very friendly and knew what she was talking about. She had many interesting facts and anecdotes to tell. The one thing I was not thrilled about was that there wasn't as much food as the flyer suggests. We left still hungry.

Flavors of Philly

I chose Flavors of Philly to indulge friends who were flying in for a girl's weekend. The tour guide was pleasant and informative. The food was tasty. Variety plenty. Unfortunately we took the tour on a day in February that was extremely windy and cold. We were out longer than was needed to look at architecture. We shared with the guide how cold and uncomfortable we were but to no avail. We understood that a timeline needed to be followed but a back up plan should be in place for these sorts of days. Overall my friends and I enjoyed the tour and food but felt that more appropriate, cleaner venues could have been chosen. Albeit our tour was on a Sunday when some of the regular stops (restaurants) are closed, a few of my friends felt uncomfortable eating the food in particular restaurants due to dirty tables, rugs, floors, and counter tops.

fun, entertaining, good intro to the city

Our guide was great as was the quantity and variety of the food. Getting the historical bits along the way was fantastic as well. I think the only parts I wasn't impressed with were the choc covered pretzels and the cookie... I understand their place because of how old...but maybe a different flavor? maybe something different? a local drink perhaps...

History as well as restaurant tour

The tour started on time and was conducted by MIke, who was extremely animated and full of information. There was more history about the city than food, which was typical Philly pretzels, tomato pie, hoagies, cheesesteaks and cheese fries, and cookies and candy from Reading Terminal. I enjoyed everything that I ate but I didn't want to eat so much that I was too full to walk and enjoy the tour. We walked for blocks and on every corner we learned something new. I am from NJ and have been in Philadelphia many times; I used to come every Christmas to see the department store windows. I bring my school children here every year to see the historical sites, and yet I still learned many new things about this magical, historical city. Mike, our guide, not only was full of information, but he articulated well and enjoyed wholeheartedly everything he shared with the group. When it started to snow, it only added to the magic of the tour. It was a perfect combination of Philly food and Philadelphia history.

Wonderful way to experience the city

I took my elder parents (80 yrs) on this tour as a Christmas gift ,and we all loved it. The guide was knowledgeable and kind to all of us. The original description of the tour said 2 1/2 hours - but it ran about 3 1/2 hours. Compared to other food tours that I have taken (New York and New Orleans), this one had fewer food stops and more city/cultural stops - but it was all good!
