Disappointing

I had taken a different tour offered by City Food Tours a couple of months ago (Northern Liberties), and it was fantastic! So when a friend was coming to visit and wanted to try "Philly foods," I did not hesitate to sign us up for the Taste of Philly Food Tour. Our tour guide was great (albeit nervous, as it was his first tour, and he kept asking us how he was doing). My problem with the tour was the places that were selected for us to go. We started at Joe's pizza for tomato pie, which I didn't even know was a typical Philly food. Then the pretzel factory. Then Zio's pizza for cheesesteaks. Huh? A pizza place for cheesesteaks? When there are several places around the city KNOWN for their cheesesteaks? It turns out that the owner of Zio's and the owner of Joe's are brothers, so I don't know if there's any sort of kickback going on there. I asked the tour guide why we weren't going anywhere to try water ice (hello? Taste of Philly?), and he said that I was like the 5th person to ask recently, but it's just not included on the tour. So I guess I feel like the places that were chosen were chosen just because they were within walking distance and could be done within the time constraints of the tour, and not necessarily representative of the places real Philadelphians would choose to go.

We couldnt have asked for a better tour guide! Brian seemed very knoweldgeable. Taking us through city hall to get to our third location was a great thing! The food was great! After the philly cheesesteak was was stuffed , had to take my cookies to go!

Best of both worlds Philly food tour!

As a first time visitor to the city of Philadelphia and with a good solid 4 hours to spare by myself in the downtown area...I don't think I could have made a better decision than to take this tour. It was great insight to good food, history of philadelphia, and great walking exercise. Definitely reccommend it to anyone interested in learning about what Philadelphia has to offer when it comes to food, historical landmarks and what to do in the area.

The tour mixed food history with some Philadelphia history, which I enjoyed. On the food side, I really liked visiting the Reading Market, but the rest of the food seemed good but nothing spectacular. Go hungry!

We had an awesome, fun, energetic tour guide- Teagan who made the tour enjoyable! We did the tour as part of my sister's bachelorette party and had a great time tasting all the different decadent foods. We plan on getting a gift certificate for my dad to go on a different tour for his birthday!

Our tour guides Judy & Christina were excellent. Gave a lot of interesting facts about Philly. Were also very personable. However the amount of food was lacking. Half a Philly chesse steak,2/3 of a slice of tomato pie,a small pretzel,2 chocolate covered pretzels & 1/2 of a cookie. The tour value should have been about $25 not $41 as the food value was not there.

We thoroughly enjoyed the tour. The food was great and ample. The walk was paced well for all in the group including my 73 year old (but very spry) mother.

Highlight of my visit to Philadelphia

So glad I chose this tour - it was outstanding. Teagen who led the group was extremely knowledgeable about the food we tasted - seven kinds of cheese, six types of chocolate, three kinds of brewed tea and six flavors of gelato. There was enough time for questions and answers as well as some discussion from the group. de Bruno Bros where the tour started is a unique grocery store and meat market with a huge selection of specialty items. I have been telling friends above it for the past week!

Worst tour guide EVER!

Well, I'll start by saying this was NOT my first visit to Philadelphia so I was not expecting to be wow'ed by the food itself but was hoping for a fun tour...but a fun tour it was not! My food tour guide, JAMIE, was horrible! He offended me on so many levels, I can't even recall them all...but in short, some of his comments seemed racist and homophobic. I know that he was trying to be witty and charming in some of his personal comments to people in the group, but I honestly believed that he offended almost everyone there at some point and it just became extremely annoying after while. I found myself hoping that the next stop would be the last stop just to be rid of the guy...and that really stinks when you pay the price that we paid for this tour. Needless to say, I was VERY disappointed with it as a whole. And after all of the crap with the guide...the cheesesteak, which Philly is known for, was horrible! :-( Bummed about the waste of time!

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour. Robert was very knowledgeable and fun to be around. Even if my wife knew more about cheese than he did.

Judy, our guide, was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. She fielded all questions with a smile and encouraged participation from those of us who have lived in or around Philly for a long time. The food was delicious and the history was interesting and interactive. I loved this tour so much I've already bought tickets to take my dad and brother who are visiting. Two thumbs up!
