Fun with Pizza

I booked the pizza tour as an activity for my 17-year-old niece and me. It was a way to show her another part of Manhattan (outside of Midtown where we were lodging). We took the subway from Midtown and it was easy to get to and from on the subway. Our guide was Alexis. I have my niece's stamp of approval for both Alexis and the tour. She thought Alexis was "funny" and she enjoyed learning about the different styles of pizza making. I thought Alexis was very personable. He made everyone feel included. Also, he clearly knows pizza and food in general. I enjoyed the pizza rating booklet (my niece thought that was goofy and didn't use hers). We enjoyed the tour overall. We visited four pizza restaurants (Keste, John's, Fiore's and Ben's) and sampled cheese pizza at each. We were able to enter and sit down in 3 of the 4 restaurants. I guess there was not room for our group of 16 at John's because Alexis went in and brought two pies outside. We were fortunate the weather was nice (high 40's and dry). I am not sure I would have enjoyed standing on the sidewalk with a slice if it were much colder or wetter. We ate a lot of pizza! You will not be hungry afterwards. Two of the slices were 1/2 slices but there were still quite large. It was a bit unclear what was going on with the beverages (water was provided at the first sit down restaurant but you had to buy your own thereafter). I am not going to opine on the different pizza restaurants chosen because whether or not you like the pizza at any particular place really isn't the point (though my niece liked all the pizza and I enjoyed 3 out of 4). The tour did last the full 2.5 hours plus a bit. We walked several blocks between restaurants 2 and 3 and 3 and 4 (1 and 2 were across the street from each other); so there is a bit of walking involved. I would do this again (and may consider doing other Scott's tours when back in NYC).

Very interesting tour, punctuated of course, with delicious pizza. My son and I really liked the different styles of pizza that we could compare. We definitely learned some things about pizza that we did not know. It was also fun being with other unabashed pizza lovers. Our guide was great.

The tour was really fun and Miriam was a great guide. We tried three very different and extremely delicious slices and learned about the history of pizza in New York! I highly recommend this tour if you love pizza and want to explore some amazing and adorable neighborhoods.

I highly recommend this fun and yummy tour. We laughed a lot and learned all sorts of fun pizza information as well as a bit of NY history. Our tour guide was hilarious and worked well with everyone in our group. We had a baby in a stroller with us and he didn't miss a beat. Many many thanks. Will recommend to all my friends headed to NY.

Best Tour in NYC!

We've taken 2 of Scott's Pizza Tours - the Crosstown Pizza walking tour in 2012 and the Pizza Bus Tour in 2014. We purposely extended our trip so we could take this tour! Not only is the pizza fantastic, but Scott is the consummate tour guide - knowledgeable (to the extreme), passionate about what he does and incredibly engaging - even with the kids on the tour. This is the tour you can't miss, in my opinion. You'll love discovering some culinary gems that you would otherwise never know about, learn a ton about pizza and it's history and how it's made, and most importantly have great time doing it! We're ready to sign up for tour #3 next time we're in NYC!

Delicious and Fun

I never realized how much information is out there on Pizza. Scott knows everything about it. From where to get the best Pizza to how to make the best pizza, he will guide you in the right direction. The pizza was delicious, and it was interesting to find out what makes each slice we ate unique from one another. I was initially worried that I may leave hungry, but by the end I was full and completely satisfied. Would definitely recommend to anyone who likes pizza or just wants to do something different and fun in the city.

Tons of fun

Great tour, tons of fun. We even had one of the stops in the tour close for repairs, but it didn't detract from the tour at all. It was a fun, relaxed atmosphere giving us an opportunity to compare and contrast the effects of different ovens on pizza. It also was a realistic history of NY pizza, all told in a relaxed way that encouraged conversation and participation. Overall a great tour!

enthusiastic and funny guided tour of NY pizza

This was my third tour with Scott's Pizza Tour, but my first without Scott. Alexis led our group. My family and I (wife and 4 kids ages 7, 5, 3 and 1) all walked through Greenwich Village listening to Alexis tell us about the history of NY pizza, while sampling from a chronological evolution of different pies. Alexis was knowledgeable, accommodating, relaxed and very funny. I would do this tour again. In fact, my kids wanted to do it again, before we left NYC.
