Big fun, lots of info and tasty pizza

Our tour leader Scott was a walking encyclopedia of pizza lore as well as a very engaging and funny guy. I certainly didn't know that it only takes a minute and 40 seconds to bake a pizza in a coal-fired oven, or the fine differences between coal, wood and gas-fired ovens. We went to four establishments in Manhattan and the Bronx and compared a basic cheese slice from each so any toppings wouldn't mask the quality of the basic recipe. Did the tomatoes come from California or Italy? Was the cheese fresh mozarella or not? Each restaurant had its own vibe and its own take on the glorious pie, and overall the experience was wonderful -- except the yellow school bus was kinda bouncy!

Love my pizza

I thoroughly enjoyed the pizza tour. I liked two out of the three choices of restaurants. I will go back to Keste and John's. However, I did not like having to stand in the the street at John's and eat my pizza. I prefer to sit and savor. Thought our guide was informative and fun. I would recommend.

Scott is passionate about pizza, and made the 3 hours a lot of fun, and pizza was excellent. Will not be able to have chain restaurant pizza ever again! Would highly recommend for parents and teenagers, and/or any generation pizza lover. Will definitely do one of the other tours again.

Tour too long
Sun, Aug 10  11:30 AM LGGoldberg Male 60-69 Local Family With Children
Tour guide's enthusiasm did not compensate for length of tour. Pizza just cant be discussed for 2.5 hours. Most thoughts were repeated and repeated . Eating pizza on the street with total strangers isnt that warm and fuzzy feeling. I would not recommend this to anyone . The tour guide was a nice guy ,but it played out early . Left after two hours.

We had a lot of fun, ate great pizza and learned more than I could imagine. Scott is the King of Subject Matter Experts. It was inspiring to see someone make a career of their passion (and mine too!) I will be going back for more again and again.

Fun, informative and delicious tour!

We purchased tickets for this tour specifically for the 15 year old on the trip with us because of his love for pizza, and it turned out to be one of the main highlights of our trip. I never anticipated enjoying this tour as much as I did, and I learned a lot about pizza and was able to discover I have a favorite pizza, the Margherita pizza. Could not have had a better experience.

This was a really fun way to spend a couple of hours exploring the birth place of the iconic New York pizza slice. Scott himself took us to 3 different spots, explaining the history as well as the different methods of making pizza; who knew there were so many! Scott is a really enthusiastic and funny guide and the tour is really good value for money. Next time we're in New York we'll definitely be trying one of his other tours.

Excellent but too long

We had a great time and learned a lot. Scott is a master of all things pizza. My only recommendation would be to speed up the time between pizzerias a bit...lots of unnecessary waiting.

And now time for something completely different!

Get off the beaten path next time you visit NYC! Try taking a bus tour of a different kind - avoid the crowds of the hop-on, hop-off bus and go see the sites you really wish to see...and taste! I was looking at tours of NYC on the web and stumbled upon Scott's Pizza Tours. I like NYC. I like Pizza. So why not go see NYC's famous pizzeria's. When we arrived we were greeted by Scott, the owner and our tour guide for the day. Scott's broad and deep knowledge of pizza (more then you'll ever care to know!) is equally matched by his friendliness and his enthusiasm. I promise you - if you like pizza - you must go. If you love to cook and learn about the history of the NYC's various pizza styles, the pizzerias, and the process of making pizza - then this is a must go. PS. I brought along my 14 year old daughter who was cautious because we had to take a yellow school bus (too much of a reminder that school starts next week I guess). However she ended up having a great time and said the tour "was faster than she thought" it would be. And it wasn't "too much like learning." Bottom line - she's too cool to say it - but she had a blast!
