Didn't realize before the tour exactly why I liked certain types of pizza, and now I know the difference between crusts, sauces and cheeses, along with brick or coal ovens and a bit of pizza / nyc history. Nice tour! |

Fine for Tourists, Not Ideal for Locals

The tour started out great. I love NYC immigrant history so it was interesting to learn about how Lombardi's got started, what the neigborhood was like back then, etc. The tour went downhill when we went to Pizza Box for a "typical NYC slice." I thought the tour was going to take us to the best spots in NYC. As a New Yorker, I've had a typical slice plenty of times and I don't need a tour to take me to a sub-par place. Even for tourists, why should they pay so much for a tour when they can get a "typical slice" on any street corner in NYC? The final stop, John's Pizza, was OK but it was weird that we had to eat our pizza standing outside in front of the building. The last two stops were quite similar and Pizza Box could have definitely been left off of the tour.
I'd say this tour might be fine for tourists but for locals, there isn't enough that's new or interesting to make it worth the price of the tour. We'd have been better off going to a tour at the Tenement Museum and then going to lunch at a pizza place of our choice. |

I could definitely write a couple page description of why the pizza tour was excellent but I'll just leave that up to you to find out for yourself. JUST GO! It's one of the coolest things to do in NYC (and there are A LOT of cool things to do in NYC). Scott's the man and is really enthusiastic about pizza (and anything that has to do with pizza). --Russ |

Scott was great and I would be surprised if anyone else knows more about Pizza and its history in New York. Also the tour was a nice way to meet other people that are interested in food. Had a great time and highly recommend Scott |

I've eaten all of the pizza but I've never had the pleasure of learning the history. The tour guide was amazing. I took notes, asked questions and ate pizza. I feel like I really know the history and the tricks of the trade behind excellent pizza. |

I would recommend this tour. Scott certainly knows his subject matter and is very friendly and informative. My only criticism is if you pay 60 dollars for the tour i dont think you should come away hungry. I admit i love my food, but i think 4 slices of pizza and mine were small slices were not enough i think you should at least have the equivalent of a whole pizza. Of course, you have the opportunity to buy an extra slice but when you have paid that money i think it is stingy they dont give you that. |

I'm a New Yorker, and was a little wary about this being too touristy, but it wasn't in the slightest. Scott is enthusiastic and full of great facts and stories. The tour was a bit like walking through history in my own backyard, and brought up a lot of concepts- and pizza places- that I hadn't even known about. I would definitely recommend it! |

Scott did great job leading us on a Pizza adventure in NYC's Grenwich Village. His enthusiasm is certainly catchy!!
Not only did we stop at three completely different pizza places, we were treated to a stop at local cheese shop specializing in homemade fresh Mozzarella....yummy! The tour is jam packed with information about the history of Pizza and the history of Pizza in the US with a hightlight on NYC...the epicenter of US Pizza.
Highly recomended!! A+++ |

Scott - loved the tour on Friday -- great pizza - great tour. Loved the ovens and the walk -- you are amazing, I never knew I knew so litte about pizza. My nephew who was on the tour with us will be the guy in the know as he will be a freshman in college this year. I'm sure the girls are going to be impressed by him when he shares his new knowledge of pizza.
I also wanted to give you some info about our fav pizza place in Houston. Star Pizza.
From Star's website: All of our pizzas are made to order, using only the finest, freshest ingredients: The pizza sauce is made from scratch with our own special blend of herbs and spices. The dough is made fresh every day, using only unbleached, untreated flour. Our pizzas take a little longer to prepare properly, so please be patient and you will be rewarded with the best pizza you have ever eaten. Star Pizza has been cranking out pies in the funky old house in Montrose/Upper Kirby since 1976 and in the Heights area since shortly after that. Our reliable , quality ingredients keep the crowds coming back for more. Some prefer the thinner New York style hand-tossed crust, and some prefer the deeper Chicago style Deep Dish but don't forget that either one is available in our fantastic whole wheat crust. pecialties like the Joe (spinach, garlic) and the Starburst Deluxe (pepperoni, ground beef, sausage, mushroom green pepper, onions and cheese) are mainstays.
Thanks again for a great tour. Le Hammer & Brian Williams from Houston, TX |

We enjoyed our walking tour and our guide, Scott, was absolutely delightful. My husband and I are in the pizza business for many years, and we learned a few things on this tour. I recommend this tour to anyone who likes history as well as pizza! It was just plain fun. The tour was well planned and well executed. If you're looking for something a little different to do for the afternoon, this it. I plan to take another pizza tour on my next visit to New York City. |
