Great Pizza Tour in NYC!
Sat, Dec 12, 09   11:00 AM Readerbean Female 30-39 Local Unspecified
Scott is super enthusiastic about pizza and that enthusiasm is contagious! This tour is informative about the history of pizza in general and in NYC. The three slices you get are delish. I would highly recommend this as a fun activity to do in NYC.

The tour guide was very personable and gave an excellent guide through several New York City neighbourhoods. The pizza slices we sampled were delicious, but I feel like we got more than a pizza tour - we also learned a bit about the city. Thanks Scott, for a wonderful tour!

A different view of NYC!

We went on the walking tour with Scott at the beginning of December and would thoroughly recommend it. Never will you meet an individual so enthusiastic and knowledgable about pizza and it's origins. But the tour is not just about pizza - it's about the history of Little Italy, the families who brought the food with them and the changing face of New York over the last century. All delivered with excitement and good humour. The pizza is pretty good too!

Scott, what a natural you are at your 'job'. Although it might be pushing it calling it a job! Driving around, talking about pizza, eating pizza isn't too much of a hardship in my eyes. Yum! Scott's Pizza Tour is definitely worth the time, for the trivia/history alone. I can't say i remember much of it (i remember the tastings dough, er....though!), but i do remember it was all delivered in a humorous and entertaining fashion. Thoroughly recommend to all interested in pizza pie. 8/10

Scott is extremely enthusiastic, and his passion for pizza is completely authentic. Even if you aren't that into pizza, you'd probably have a good time just enjoying the show. But don't be fooled - this is all about pizza. How and where it started in NYC, the different methods and ingredients that are employed, and the different styles that exist all within the vaunted category of "New York Pizza." This is not a food fest cramming as many slices into your belly as possible. It is a true walking tour, including historic sites, and places of importance to the process. But of course, the main attractions are some significant NYC pizzerias, and they don't disappoint. Note - you won't get a seat at each venue due to the crowds, but even when standing and eating outside, it is totally worth it. You'll enjoy different types of pizza and be encouraged to think about and share what makes them unique, and what you liked or disliked about them. Scott is passionate about the pizza, but not interested in telling you what to think - he'll inform your own thoughts to help you understand what you like or don't like so you can find pizza you'll love in the future. In short, I was impressed with Scott for his combination of creativity (really energetic and fun presentation) and organization (logical tour layout and he carried a binder full of really useful pics and info). He is commited to providing an excellent experience. I thoroughly enjoyed the time, and I'd strongly recommend it.

Scott truly loves his pizza, and he's found a wonderful way to share his love with people. The walking tour is not difficult, and it truly flies by the time you meander the streets of Little Italy, SoHo, and the Village. Absolutely recommended by two people who are not food snobs-- we just love pizza.

Previous to this tour I had read fantastic reviews...and this tour lived up to it's reputation! There were 16 of us on the tour from all over the U.S and also a couple from Ireland! What made this tour so great, aside from the walking tour of SoHo, Little Italy, the Village and NoLita, and trying 3 different pizzas was the opportunity to meet and talk with such a nice group of people, and OF COURSE SCOTT! Scott is an exuberant, excited, friendly, warm, wonderful guy, who thanked us on more than one occasion for allowing him to do exactly what he loved to do; educate people about pizza! I am a self procalimed "foodie" and I thought I knew a lot about pizza until I met Scott. He has done extensive research on the how, where, when and why of every single aspect of pizza. We learned about sauce, cheese, crusts, different ovens, the history of how pizza came to the U.S, we even visited the oldest cheese shop in NYC and ate fresh mozzarella cheese that had been made a half hour before ....I could go on and on, but the one best part of the tour was Scott himself. He was truly happy to be doing what he was doing and all of us had a great time with him. I laughed out loud more than once when I observed Scott "ooohing and ahhhing" everytime a waiter brought a pizza by our table. I liked this tour so much I plan on doing it again on my next trip to NYC.

Being out-of-towners (actually out-of-continenters!) we didn't fully know what to expect but with the high rating on Tripadvisor we had high expectations and we certainly weren't disappointed. From the moment Scott turned up his enthusiasm for the subject at hand was blindingly obvious and he made everyone in our group feel welcome with either little stories of previous or planned trips to Chicago/California/Ireland/Wherever. The tour isn't just about "the slice", it covered all aspects of NYC Pizza from the Mozzarella (first stop is actually not a restaurant but a deli that produces fresh Mozzarella) to the different types of oven (coal, wood, gas including a stop at the Bari Pizza Oven factory in Nolita) to even an explaination of the rules that meant certain restaurants either had to close or move if their coal ovens developed faults! Of course no review of this particular tour wouldn't be complete without some mention of "the slice". Scott has picked 3 different establishments to show the true differences in style (fresh tomato versus tinned, fresh mozzarella versus grated, coal versus gas, etc.). His understanding of "their" product is excellent and his relationship with the establishments in question means that he can get you closer to the action than if you just walked in off the street (at the end of the tour, Scott ended up in a coal bunker on Bleecke Street!). If you haven't booked this tour for yourself I have just one thing to say "Why Not?"

worth doing, even for a seasoned New Yorker!

Scott's passion and enthusiasm is contagious, and it brings everyone in the group back to feeling like a kid again. I highly recommend this tour to get even seasoned New Yorker's out of their shells and spend a few hours seeing their city from a new perspective -- i.e. the pizza capital of the world, or at least the best one outside of Naples.

Pizza Walk was the best part of our trip!

My husband and I really enjoyed our Pizza Tour with Scott. He is amazingly enthusiastic and knowledgeable. We got to visit (and taste) at three really wonderful pizza places, see mozzarella and pizza ovens being made, and learned a lot about 19th century Little Italy and the Village. Very much recommend this tour for foodies and non-foodies alike.
