Fun trip despite the rain

Staff was great! They were very friendly and helpful. If we went to a reef where the fish were not biting we moved to the next and everyone caught a fair amount of fish for our all day boat ride. It would have been a lot more enjoyable if it didn't end up being a 70% chance of rain that day or rained the entire time we were out there (which of course was not their fault although they apologized for it). I would definitely book with them again but would not do it a week in advance. Check the weather reports before you book (when we booked it was 0% and sunny)! Highly recommended!

EXCELLENT and JOYFUL FISHING TRIP!

This trip was fabulous! We all had a great experience. 6 out of 8 of us never had fishing experience and we went home with over 80 fishes combined! The people on board were very intuitive and were always helpful. The best part was being able to bring home the fish after they had assisted in filleting the ones we caught while also giving us many great suggestions on where and what to do with the fish we caught.

We went out on an all-day trip for my buddy's bachelor party and had an excellent time. Recommend bringing beer and sandwiches; the food is cheap though, so enjoy that too. Oh yeah, and we caught a ton of fish. Grouper was out of season so we just stocked up on Key West grunt, but I'm anxiously anticipating their day on the grill.

Good Trip, Lots of Fish, Just Don't Ask Them To

The crew was friendly, and was committed to ensuring that we have a good time as well as caught our share of fish. My only complaint is the quality of the filet job, the crew did following the trip. Many people do not keep their catch, we however did. We tipped them $2 per fish to clean our catch and the job was severely substandard. Other than that however, it was a great time, and well worth the value.

PERFECT FOR GROUP OF FRIENDS!

I recently went out on the all day trip with a group of buddies for a pregame to a bachelor party. We had an absolute blast. The fishing was great, the weather was cooperative, and best of all I got to keep what I caught (after tipping the deckhand for filet prep) for a killer fish fry the next evening. "Chef Jeff" also made sure we were well fed and hydrated while on the boat by cooking us ham and egg sandwiches and burgers for extremely reasonable prices. Couldn't have asked for a better trip and I'll be back again next month. Thanks guys!

The fishing wasn't as ample as I remembered it from the last 3 times I went but it was fair. It was a fun trip, with helpful staff who actually tried talking to the customers which made it all the more enjoyable.

The Captain was friendly and outgoing. He made sure we found the great fishing spots. We caught tons of fish. The other staff was super helpful and friendly. We had a blast and will go again. Go full day. Not half day is very recommended for the price and the time will fly by. Food was good and priced very reasonably.

Great Fishing, Awful Crew
Sun, Dec 27, 09   9:00 AM jotoscano Male 20-29 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
I went on this fishing trip on December 27, a Sunday morning. I chose the all day fishing trip as recommended by some of the other reviews. The boat was decent, and pretty clean. However, the crew was certainly not helpful. I am an experienced fishermen, but for those of you who are not, I would not recommend this trip. It was mainly a do it yourself kind of trip even though there was a crew on board who were suppose to help. The crew was more interested in fishing themselves then helping the paying customers. We had to bait our own hooks, take our fish off the hooks and other tasks that should have been done by the crew. The cook was definitely questionable. He would go out fishing on the boat, and then return to the cabin to cook without washing his hands. The fishing was good and most of the boat caught a good amount of fish. If you take this trip, be prepared to do everything yourself.

Disappointing - Poor customer consideration

First, I arrived before 6:00 am to get a prime fishing location. When I arrived there were already several people on the boat who already occupied the location(s) I wanted. I was not allowed to get on the boat and waited 15 minutes (6:15 am) before the attendant gave me my boarding tickets. I later found out that the people already on the boat, setting up their rods and live bait wells, where associated with the boat and were employees or regulars. The point is I was a paying customer, got there at the early before boarding was allowed and didn't get the opportunity to fish where I wanted to. I purposely got there early and was willing to wait the 3 hours before the boat left so I would have the opportunity to select my fishing location. It was interesting that the few legal grouper caught on the trip came from the locations I would have selected. Obviously the paying customer doesn't come first with the Queen fleet. Secondly, when I inquired about fishing on the Gulf Queen a month earlier I was told that the boat went out 25- 30 miles. We only went out around 12 miles (could see the shore line) and the fishing areas selected were not very active, especially for grouper, which was my primary reason for fishing. I have been on the Double Eagle two times previously and those trips were a lot more successful than the Gulf Queen trip.
