The wife and I had a good time - memorable

We read one bad review that had us wondering how our experience would be, so we went in a day early to check things out. This was our first time there. The woman was very helpful and friendly. She advised us to arrive at 0630. The next morning we went at 0615 to relax and have coffee. Seems like we were some of the last people to arrive. This makes a difference, because the only place to set up was on the bow of the boat. The other places were taken. Considering the type of fishing we were doing it really didn't make a difference, except if you get sea sick, because the bow moves a lot more. Guess that's why the restrooms are up front. There were two deck hands that day and when approached, were very helpful and friendly. Oh... the dog (one of the deck hands dog) on our trip was also friendly and we enjoyed his company also. I think that a little more explanation of the event should be explained (especially to first timers) before departure, such as how to set up, how to reel in your fish, how the day will go, etc......We both caught our limit, even though the fish were really small. I took a few pictures, but I was so sea sick that I just couldn't take very many. The wife seemed ok though. We concentrated on catching fish. I might ad that the captain, did an exceptional job to get us to the fish. In my opinion this is an experience that we will remember for a long time. We highly recommend Randy's. The website just about tells you all you need to know to make a decision about which service to use. To all at Randy's - We Thank You

Initial impression was very offensive.

When my party (5) and I arrived at the pier we were greeted by an elderly lady at the counter who was (incharge or registration/fishing licenses) very rude and spoke to us with no courtesy. I felt as if she wanted us to leave. Given it was early and clearly she did not want to be there, but we had been planning this trip for over a month and if Josh and the Captain didn't save the day by being VERY friendly and willing to teach us, then I would have demanded my money back. Everyone has bad days, but it was not professional to be rude to paying customers. Sincerely, Oliver Dejillo

Know your tackle!

For the most part, my husband and I enjoyed our trip. We saw that mostly everyone caught many fish. I would like to suggest that a list or notice of what tackle works best for the area. We are river fishermen and came out with too light of tackle and no guidance on what was the popular lure for sucess. We did catch a dozen or so fish so we had fun but would have done so much better had the experts advised us. At least regarding a min. sinker weight!

I fish a lot and prefer a smaller boat, but that being said, I had a great time taking my brother in law fishing. We caught a lot of fish. Captain was good and the deck hand could take some Dale Carnegie courses.

We went on an afternoon rock cod fishing trip. With a skipper who found the fish and a deckhand who was upbeat and helpful we hit our limit in 3 hours. Boat was comfortable, coast was beautiful.

At last, a fishing trip where you actually catch fish! I had my limit of rock cod after only about an hour. We fished off of Pebble Beach/Carmel area. The captain provided good information on depth to fish at and, of course, finding the schools. The deckhand was very helpful during the fishing and fileted the limit for $10. It was a very fun day.

My 11 year old son and I went out cod fishing with Randy's and both caught our 10 fish limit--as did everyone else on board. The boat was basic but comfortable; the 6 hour trip included a very helpful deck hand who was kept very busy untangling lines. The boat was a bit too crowded, but it was a holiday weekend. Good times.
