When we arrived at Randy's they told us that they didn't have enough people for one of their boats. They told us that they combined forces with Princess tours and that we would be going out with the Princess crew and their guests. I liked the fact that Randy's combined resources with princess instead of taking an empty boat out. The princess crew did their best but whales cannot be summoned on demand. We had one viewing of a large grey whale which was spectacular. It was nice day and the boat ride was nice with beautiful views of the shoreline. For die hard whale watchers I would recommend people going out during a season when whales are more prevalent. If your more realistic and understand that animals are animals and do not exist for your viewing pleasure, then enjoy the ride regardless of whether you see anything.

Narration could have been more extensive and interesting. Safety demonstration could have been more serious and professional.

We went out on a winter afternoon (late December) - the crew members were friendly and seemed very competent. There were just not many whales out in the bay that day - certainly not the fault of the tour operator - but we did manage to find a couple huge groups of dolphins and that was wonderful. All in all, it was a very enjoyable day - even though we didn't get to see the whales. We'll try again in the future!

The personnel were really nice. It was a weekday afternoon and so we were consolidated on another boat, but it was a great boat and no problem at all. They took us to where they had seen whales in the morning and when we got to the area a pod of Killer Whales were attacking a Grey Whale calf. The mother was trying to protect the calf with little success. What was very unusual was that a couple Humpback Whales were inserting themselves into the action which was something the captain and none of the staff aboard had ever seen. Everybody was filming and/or snapping pictures. Because it was unusual and dramatic we stayed out a bit longer than usual, so we certainly got a good outing for our money.

| We saw at least two humpback whales surface and spout and dive a number of times. At times pretty close (100 to 200 feet away).
An unexpected bonus was just experiencing the raw power of the ocean. My inexperienced eye saw 10 foot swells that tossed our 50+ foot boat around like a cork. I and my adult children enjoyed it like a rollercoaster. My wife (who dislikes rollercoasters) got seasick in spite of the dramamine-like drug we both took 45 minutes in advance of departure. We watched a two masted wooden schooner who left with us get tossed even more. Like a scene out of a movie. Hang on!
As we left the harbor we got hit by a good breeze, so while sunny and warm on shore, I was glad to have on a lot of layers.
So be prepared for chill wind, salt spray, motion, and one should have a wonderful time if one likes that kind of adventure. |

Randy's whale watching was a thoroughly professional outfit which delivered on its promise. Seeing the humpbacks in their Monterey Bay habitat was an awesome experience which I am glad not to have missed. Truly beautiful creatures with the best view of them provided, while keeping a respectful distance.

I felt the captain did all he could to find us whales, which he did. Of course we wanted to be closer but they respect the whales need to not be harassed. I would go with Randy's again.

Our family, including grandchildren, had a wonderful time going out on the whale watching trip. It was three hours and we saw a lot of sea life. From seal pups to dolphins to jelly fish to whales. It was great! Dress really warm and you will have a good time.

We somehow luckily booked the whale watching trip in between two weather fronts. We saw eight grey whales frolicing around our Randy's whale watching boat. The captain and the deckhand were very helpful, piloting the boat so we could see in a most convenient view and explaining the movements of the whales. We had a great time. We recommend that the boat should have a few more outside seatings and hot coffee - it is difficult to stand for three hours in the cold, swells and moving boat.
