Go for Randy's or Princess
Sun, Apr 12  10:00 AM FairuzA Unspecified Unspecified Unspecified Unspecified
When we arrived at Randy's they told us that they didn't have enough people for one of their boats. They told us that they combined forces with Princess tours and that we would be going out with the Princess crew and their guests. I liked the fact that Randy's combined resources with princess instead of taking an empty boat out. The princess crew did their best but whales cannot be summoned on demand. We had one viewing of a large grey whale which was spectacular. It was nice day and the boat ride was nice with beautiful views of the shoreline. For die hard whale watchers I would recommend people going out during a season when whales are more prevalent. If your more realistic and understand that animals are animals and do not exist for your viewing pleasure, then enjoy the ride regardless of whether you see anything.

Randy's whale watching was a great experience. After we started seeing whales, and the convergence of other whale watching boats starting coming along, my girlfriend and I were happy to be on Randy's boat instead of one of the other overcrowded larger boats around. The captain was knowledgeable and friendly, and would always turn the boat so we could get the best view of the pod. We will DEFINITELY be doing this again!

It was a great trip out on the ocean. I think we got closer to the whales than the other boats I saw out there. The boat we rode on the "Carolina" has seen much better days but for the price it was a good deal! I would suggest sitting near the front of the boat..it seemed like they got a better view. We saw dolphins, humpback whales, and seals. The only thing lacking was comfortable seating and the kids lost interest on the way back. All in All..WORTH IT!!! Check it out!!!

Well , the office that you wait in on the pier is full of smokers, nice people but no respect for the non smokers. The captain of the boat will wait for late passengers if you have already paid for your tickets, so thats a plus if your running behind. The deck mate only came out of the captains area once in awhile, mostly when there was no whales around or to let us know there was a whale,When, we finally found a whale the captain never got close enough to let us see them, And I have a zoom camera. When we found one, They didn't get close enough to reap any rewards, so that sucked. We were out so long that the boat raced toward shore for about an hour and a half at full throttle. so a family with a little girl , had to comfort her the whole time because she was vomiting everywhere. Another couple had waves coming over the cabin and landing on them , soaking them completely . So all I have to say is go with the Monterey bay whale watch(aka Sam's) We did them last year and they get as close as possible,And there captain doesn't beat you half to death on the way back.

Fun & Exciting

The Whale Watching trip was fun and exciting! We saw humpback whales, a shark, lots of harbor seals, otters, and various types of birds. To my surprise quite a few people on board got sick. I would definately recommend wearing Seabands wrist bands. You can get them at your local drugstore for about 8-10 bucks and it's totaly worth it. There are no side effects. Randy's Whale watching was a great experience, easy to get tickets, easy to find and overall lots of fun.

Don't Eat

The water was rough, therefore some people got sick. I feel that the boat should be much bigger to handle the rough waves especially when children are present. The bathrooms need alot of attention the smell of the bathroom will make you sick. I have paid the same amount of money to do the same thing with better accomadations. GET A BIGGER BETTER BOAT SO IT WILL MAKE THE TRIP MUCH NICER.

I love Zerve but I think Randy's stinks!

I booked a whale watching tour (3 hour, yep just like Gilligan). We were really excited to go out on the water and hopefully see some marine life. I did a google search for tickets and Zerve came up. Wow are they amazing! Friendly, personable, professional and really happy! I wish they could buy out Ticketmaster, that would be life changing for me =) If you need tickets for whale watching they are THEE place. The company was an hour late so instead of leaving at 1:30 we left at 2:30. This wasn't the end of the world but with daylight savings time rapidly approaching, every minute counts, quite literally. Once the boat was ready to head out, our tour guide (couldn't understand what he told us his name ways even after the third time) got on the PA system and began mumbling something we assumed were instructions on what to do if there was an emergency and we had to abandon ship. I grew up on boats and know how dangerous open water can be so in my opinion that was a huge FAIL not to be clear and concise to a group of people you are taking an hour and a half away from shore. After that we never heard a single word from the captain or crew. Not even to introduce themselves. SO UNPROFESSIONAL and not a friendly way to conduct business. What is even more surprising is this was in Monterey, not New York. People just aren't unfriendly down here (I should know I grew up in Pacific Grove). Mmmhmm it gets worse, there was a young girl on the boat who was clearly not feeling well and when one of the crew members did a walk around the boat (assuming this was to make sure everyone was okay) he stopped, looked at her, shrugged his shoulders, smirked and rolled his eyes then just walked away. Didn't offer any suggestions or help he couldn't be bothered. After not seeing anything, not an otter, seal or other mammal the boat did an abrupt 180 and headed back to shore. Not even an "I'm sorry folks it looks like we won't see anything today and it's time to turn around and head back". Nope not these ignoramuses. They just flipped the boat around and wait to get on the PA system once we were back in the docks to say "Thanks, sorry about not seeing anything and feel free to leave us a tip". What?!?! Are you out of your minds?!? I've been on other whale watching trips where we didn't see any whales but the staff were engaging, pointing out local birds, shared facts about kelp, marine life behaviors etc. Randy's not-so-much, nothing, nada, zilch, zero, bupkiss! I give them one half star... if that

Exciting

Our trip was exciting and I would go on it again, the only thing was the water was extremely choppy, and I don't really think we should have gone out. We saw one whale and then had to come back in. Overall I would rate our trip a 8.
