The trip was well worth it!! My three year old daughter loved the rocking of the boat and all the whales she saw on the trip. It was a wonderful family experience. The boat was clean and well maintained.

Annual Fishing Trip with Grandsons

Every year I try to plan a fishing trip with my grandsons, 9 & 12 years old. We had a great time on Randy's Fishing Trip. Grandma, Grandpa, Dad, boys all had a great time. The staff is sooo knowledgable and patient! They assisted us, and the group on the boat with a quick fishing instruction, baiting and taking the fish off the hook for us. I would reccommend this trip to the novice as well as the experienced fisherman. I would also stress the Dramamine before the trip; as well as layering your clothing. Randy has an excellent pre-trip article and it certainly covered everything. We would like to go back and catch an albacore or something huge! HA! We plan to do it again.

Lots of whales, chilly day end of May
Sat, May 31, 08   2:00 PM Elysemaltz Female 50-59 Local Family Without Children
My cousins were visiting from Florida and Lorrie wanted to go on a whale watch. The weather was a bit cool that day, no sun at all. It looked more like rain so we all bundled up with layers and jackets and hoods. The staff on the boat were excellent. They were very kind and polite at all times. No problems there at all. They had to go pretty far off shore into some Rocky water because the whales had moved to this area. We saw so many whales, so many sightings. I really enjoyed the packs of sea lions that follow the whales around. They really kept moving the boat around so that it wouldn't be that rough but it was just that kind of day. I ended up getting sea sick a lot on the way back and the staff gave me some ginger to take. We were out a good three hours and it was cold and i wasn't feeling that well when i got home but it was really no fault of Randy's. I just don't think i have the stomach for boat trips. I would highly recommend Randy's but if you get sea sick like me take a pill before you go and bundle up if its a chilly day.

Took my 15 y/o and 13 y/o boys deep sea fishing for the first time. Deckhand Josh was great! We were right on the fish and everyone on board caught their limits of rock cod. We had a great time!

Perserverance

We had a rocky good time on the boat. It was smaller than we thought it would be, but that way we really got the feel of the ocean. The captain was very diligent in racing down the whales and we got some good viewings. He was not about to give up!

The trip was good. we saw atleast 10 Whales. but extremely not recommended for the people who are of "sea sick" . The Cruise will be so rocking in the middle" that is unbearable".

a great way to enjoy Monterey Bay wild life

This was the second trip we took with Randy's Whale Watching. While we mainly encountered dolphins the first time, we got to see lots of whales this time. We enjoy the low key way and the smaller boat. We feel that the crew enjoys the ocean and wild life themselves and respects the animals; they make the trip an exploration of nature rather than a tourist attraction. We are looking forward to our next trip and are curious to what we'll get to enjoy then.

Excellent rock cod trip

My recent trip was well-organized and crewed by excellent skipper and deck hand. They found fish, gave tips on how to catch them, and assisted competently with fouled lines, large fish, etc. that inevitably complicate such trips. The boat was filled - with a significant complement of novice women and children 9-12 years of age - making safety an extra issue for the crew to manage. Everyone performed well. Crew provided good support for first-timers, demonstrated all necessary techniques (e.g., how to disengage hooks safely), answered all questions, and left skilled fishermen alone. They emphasized conservation and compliance with fishing regulations. Their boat was clean and featured two heads, an unusual convenience for a boat that size (around 24 fishing positions). On return leg, deckhand filleted all catch on board for those desiring that service. Limits all around ... as good as rockfishing gets.

We had a great time with great success

We found the deck hand very helpful. We caught our limits in a short period of time. We all got sea sick and would take dramamine next time. On the way home, my grandson asked when we could go again. We ate some of the fillets that night. They were delicious. We still have enough in the freezer for many more nights. It was a great experience. All we had to do was show up and Randy's took care of the rest. I recommend this trip even for the beginner. There were several "pros" on our trip but we did as well as they did - perhaps better - because when we followed instructions exactly, we caught the larger fish. It was great.

We need a refund

My father, husband and brother were supposed to go and do the fishing trip on Wednesday May 21, 2008. Someone from Randy's fishing trips called to confirm the trip on Tuesday stating to bring warm clothes. Never was it mentioned that the wind my cause a problem with the trip. My father, husband, and brother drove 2.5 hours to the trip at 3 am in the morning to get there and find out that the trip had been cancelled due to the wind. They were told by the guys running the trip that everyone would be refunded their money. My father, husband and brother then had to turn around and drive 2.5 hours back home. This was a birthday present to my dad. The boys had been on this trip 2 years ago and really enjoyed it but feel that it would have been nice for someone to call and tell them the weather may be an issue or even have called that morning before the guys had driven all that way (with gas being $4.09 a gallon). Please go ahead and refund the money to the credit card that was used to purchase the trip. My father will be the one to choose whether they will be rescheduling the trip or not. Thank you, Carrie Loechler

An amazing experience

My husband and I have always wanted to go whale watching, we live in San Jose which is about 1.5 hr drive. We didn't expect to see so many whales, they were everywhere and some even jumped out of the water and did backflips just like we were watching them on the discovery channel except it was live and we can hear every sound they made, it was truly amazing. I highly recommend this trip, it is one of the most memorable moments we have ever experienced. I'm 5 mos pregnant but I didn't get seasick however, make sure to wear warm clothes or bring a jacket because it does get pretty cold out there on the water eventhough it was pretty warm inland...

We had a great time seeing the whales--we got to see humpback and orca whales. The only suggestion I have is that the Captain give a little more information about whales while we were travelling to the areas they were in. All in all, we truly enjoyed it.

Not for small Children!
Mon, May 12, 08   9:30 AM tmuniz408 Female 20-29 Local Family With Children
Please do not take small children on this trip. The boat is very small and if the weather is bad like it was for us, there is a big possibility your child could fall over. I had to hold onto my child the Entire time and was very scared we might go over the sides. They should not allow children under 8 onto the boat.
