Randy's Fishing and Whale Watching Trips

The trip was wonderful - very successful as we saw 3 types of whales, as well as sea lions (of course) and some crazy sun fish. The staff was very friendly and we had a terrific time. If you get seasick use an ear patch or take something. Also make sure you bundle up as we went out on a 7am trip and it was cold!

we did enjoy the trip very much. You do want to bring your own bags if you go in the later afternoon. The skipper only had see through bags for those who were sea sick. That was a little distracting. The whale part on the other hand was glorious. The skipper had the patience to cruise as long as it took to find them. The loudspeaker did not have enough transmission power, so most of what was said got drowned by wind and engine noise. That was a shame giving that much was said and little was understood.

It was our 21st anniversary and we usually do something different, so I thought, "Why not go whale watching?" The newspaper had said there was an unusual amount of whales in Monterey Bay so I booked the trip. We got everything we hoped and more from the trip. We saw blue and gray whales. They came up for air, they breached many times and one whale even played around for about 3 minutes and waved it's fin at us and splashed the water and rolled around - IT WAS MAGNIFICENT!! We were so happy with this trip we would definitely recommend to all our friends!!

The setup was easy and the staff were quick, friendly, and efficient. We rode out for 30 mins and got a sighting of a couple Blues after 15 minutes we moved farther out and found a pod of three humpbacks. The humpbacks were blowing and showing some fluke for about 20 mins and then it was time to turn around. One of the humpbacks started jumping and breaching as we were leaving and the captain turned the boat around so we could watch. We ended up staying an extra 20 mins on station watching the show. Randys didnt have to spend extra time since the tour was over but they did. That is exceptional service and greatly appreciated.

Randy knows each whale by name and knows where it lives! He even taught one how to roll over.

This is our only experience with whale watching so we do not have anything to compare it to. The price fair and reasonable; the boat was clean; the captain was informative & made the effort for everyone to have a positive experience. It was a very choppy ocean, but due to Dramamine & the captain's instructions, no seasickness. One son thought the boat ride alone was worth it. Before purchasing our tickets, we read the web pages for all of the whale watching companies in Monterey, along with the reviews. We chose Randy's for the price, the times of departure and length of the trip, plus the couple of reviews that were posted. We were not disappointed.

Randy's is a fun, casual experience. He did a great job finding the whales and getting us as close as possible to them. If you want a casual trip, and aren't expecting a lot of interpetation this is for you.

This was a great sized boat and number of persons on board.......we met and talked with others as desired, felt like "family." The dog on board added fun. The crew answered our questions, got us to the whales we desired to see. Amazing outing. Thanks.

We saw plenty of humpback whales and even some blue whales which was fantastic. Two of them came really close to the boat and dove underneath the boat. The information about the whales were told over a rather poor speaker system and was very hard to hear which was a pity.

My son and I had a great time! I can't believe how many and how close we were to Blue Whales and Humpbacks. The boat was a neat experience too. Expecially when everyone would go from searching the water in silence to all the OH'S OOO's and AHHHH's! We are so lucky to have the ability to see these animals! The captian and deckhand were great. We really enjoyed the whale watching trip. Saw many Blue Whales and lots of humpback whales too. Crew was knowledgeable and narration great. Would go again.

We were very happy with all aspects of this trip.

My parents and I took my 3 year old on a trip on a Monday afternoon. We had been on a few whale watching trips before (without my son and in different places) and didn't have very high expectations. But we actually saw many whales on this trip! The captain did a nice job of moving the boat around so we could see the whales. It wasn't too crowded and the boat was comfortable enough for the ride. I would definitely recommend a trip with Randy's, especially while the whales are out like they are this year! So much fun and the whales are so impressive!

I am so glad I chose to go on Randy's Whale Watching trip. It was a fantastic experience. My sister and I went on the 10am trip, there was just the right amount of people and we didn't have to fight for a spot to stand by the railing and there was ample seating. Throughout the trip we easily saw 3 pairs of blue whales and another 3 pairs of humpback whales. I felt like I was on National Geography! The crew was also friendly and patiently answered any queries we had about whales etc.

The seas were kind to us - waves not bad & sealife prolific. The captain did an excellent job of steering to allow everyone to see the whales, dolphins & porpoises as well as otters. The naturalist/captain provided good information including species & behavior identification. Overall a great trip on a fine boat with an excellent captain -- great day.
