Randy's Fishing and Whale Watching Trips

We were booked on Randy's tour, but there weren't enough people booked and we were placed on another tour. There was no hassle or inconvenience and the change did not impact our tour at all. The trip on the boat out to sea was fun. There weren't too many waves and we did not have any problems with sea sickness. We were able to sit up at the bow the entire cruise. We found a whale about an hour into the cruise. The captain told us about the type of whale we were seeing and about other sea life that was in the area. The narration was very interesting. We hung out and watched the solitary humpback whale for about half an hour. It surfaced many times. We were relatively close. It was not very active, but it did surface many times. We saw a tail throw twice. This was the second time we've taken a whale tour out of Monterey and both times we have seen a humpback whale. I would take the tour again. And I would recommend taking the tour. It is very cool to see a whale, even at a distance.

My husband and I recently enjoyed a trip with Randy's Whalewatching. What we really liked about it was that the staff was courteous but also concerned with the safety of the whales and the passengers. We saw three humpback whales, some dolphins, sea lions and some bird life as well. Whale sightings can never be guaranteed, so I guess it was a good time to go. One of the crew remarked that the morning trip is best since people don't get as sick and it's not as windy so it's easier to spot the whales. In addition to taking in the beauty of the Monterey Bay, we learned a lot of interesting information about the whales and other sealife as we slowly approached them. Randy's Whalewatching was a wonderful value for the price. We also appreciated that we got to go out for the full amount of time. I hope you get to do it someday!

The sales rep at the counter beliittled me in front of all the employees and customers that were present because i did not print out the tickets. He then threatened to not let my partners and I on the boat but quickly reversed himself, as if he was trying to aggrivate me. He also tried to charge me twice and said he had to call in to confirm that i had paid using zerve. A min later he looks through a list and verify's my partys tickes, again i feel he was trying to add adittional aggrevation. The whole time checking he would not stop telling me how i could not follow directions and how i need to learn how to read them and follow them. The fishing trip was worse, the boat did not even go more than 20 min out. The captain was not helpful at all and no one in my party caught a single fish. The captain did not perform his duties to full potential, a supermajority of the boat did not catch fish. Two hours into the dreadful trip a passenger had an emergency and we had to return back to the docks, lucky we were only 10 min outs. About 70%-80% of the boat members were so upset they decided to get off there also. For my party it was a few first time being out there so when the captian announced he was going back out there we all agreed to go also. But we go back to the same freakn spot were there are no fish. Even after several complaints and requests the captain would not move. It seemed like everyone just took a nap till we came back to port. Again no one caught a single fish. My party and I usually take this trip at least 3 times a year so we know the potential and how it should be. The trip was ruined and no one was happy, and unless we get a refund, free pass or atleast a discount on our next trip, which is to be in sept., we will look else where for services.

This was something i have never done before and an experience i was happy to share with my family, it was the first time i have ever been that far out in the ocean and surprisingly i did not get sea sick. we seen some dolphins and a whale on our trip and it was great the only thing that would have made it better would have been to get a little closer to get a better picture but the whale did not want to cooperate that day.Overall we all enjoyed the experience.

We got to see some humpback whales within about 100yrds. My only complaint was that the tour was cut about an hour short because of other passengers getting sea sick.

We started with a very grey day, and was told it was not the best conditions to find the whales. However, we found a pod of 4 humpback whales that thrilled us with their breeching. It was amazing! We also went looking for dolphins and found two different types, along with harbor seals and lots of birds. The sun broke through as we headed back..the perfect ending to our trip. My friends from the midwest were so happy to have seen such beautiful creatures.

When my party (5) and I arrived at the pier we were greeted by an elderly lady at the counter who was (incharge or registration/fishing licenses) very rude and spoke to us with no courtesy. I felt as if she wanted us to leave. Given it was early and clearly she did not want to be there, but we had been planning this trip for over a month and if Josh and the Captain didn't save the day by being VERY friendly and willing to teach us, then I would have demanded my money back. Everyone has bad days, but it was not professional to be rude to paying customers. Sincerely, Oliver Dejillo

We had a good trip but bare in mind that due to the size of the boat heavier seas will make viewing uncomfortable if you suffer from sea sickness. Our trip had the boat desk at around 45 degrees on several occasions.

We only paid $60 but got a great show. We saw 3 species of Dolphins together which i heard was very rare but we also saw 3 humpbacks about 30 yards away! one even jumped out of the water! As the captain said the whales were "showing off"! Highly recommended!!

We arrived on time and was treated with great service at the counter. I have previously been on this trip in years past as this was a trip i took my father on around Father's day in June. Since my Father's passing i resumed to take my son on this trip and brought a bunch of friends along for the trip. The trip out to sea was not bad my only question was in previous trips I believe we drove farther south along the coast towards point Sur. This trip we didn't and its just my guess as to why not many fish caught on trip as previous years but could be due to overfished seas. But all in all it was a good experience that I would reccommend to others.

We saw lots of dolphins, seals, sea birds, including an albatross, but no whales - someone forgot to invite them... The weather was sunny and warm and the water was smooth. There were less than 20 folks on our boat, including a baby, so it wasn't crowded at all. We took advantage of numerous photo opportunities and actually photographed a couple of dolphins breaching. Overall, it was an enjoyable trip and given the chance, we'll happily try it again.

It was awesome ... though if I went again I would take something for my motion sickness. We had a 6 month old and she loved it ... minus having to adjust to wearing her life jacket. They have a cabin inside with windows so you can stay out of the wind (and cold). It was great, the crew was great, and we had a great time. I just wish I had taken something for the motion sickness!

This was our second rock fishing trip with Randys, and we were successful again. The water was rough in the morning, but that is how it is. We all got our limit, and we will return again.
