It was truly an amazing trip! We saw a few humpback whales... and so close that you can look into their blowhole (not exaggerating). You might want to stay back -- the spray does NOT exactly smell like fresh flowers!) This trip was truly wonderful and unforgettable. My wife and I really enjoyed it!

Awesome. Whales came right up to the boat, swam next to and under the boat. It was like everyone was five years old again, "Look, look! There's one" "Oh, this one's looking at me!" Lots of fun, better than Discovery channel! Also saw seals, otters and jellyfish.

The trip, chosen because it was economical, was not what I'd call a narrated trip. When we started out, we were told that we would be arriving to the whale viewing area in approximately 45 minutes. During that time, there was no narration. Once we arrived at the whale viewing area, there was still no narration. The students I brought along (from my 5th grade class) had no idea what type of whale was being seen. We were there while we watched the 2 whales, who were super-close to the boat, but we heard nothing from the crew. Then as we came back to shore, as we pulled back into Monterey, we heard, "Over on your left is a sea lion." Honestly, that's all we got. Other negatives: The skipper smoked during the trip, and as we were standing near the crew area, it was bothersome. Yes, we could have moved, which we eventually did, but on a boat so small, we were limited as to where we could go. Additionally, for a 3+ hour trip, there were nowhere nearly enough seats to go around. If you got up, your seat was gone. Yes, we left on time and yes, we did see whales, but it was not educational, comfortable or informative. I would definitely try another operator next time.

For the most part, my husband and I enjoyed our trip. We saw that mostly everyone caught many fish. I would like to suggest that a list or notice of what tackle works best for the area. We are river fishermen and came out with too light of tackle and no guidance on what was the popular lure for sucess. We did catch a dozen or so fish so we had fun but would have done so much better had the experts advised us. At least regarding a min. sinker weight!

The process to arrange the fishing trip was very efficient and professional. Randy's establishment was clean and easy to access. The Captain did a good job in finding the schools of fish and the Mate did a fabulous job in assisting the fisher-men and -women. Be sure to tip the Mate good!

It was our daughters birthday and the crew went out of their way to make her feel special. The skipper was patient and determined to help us see as many whales as possible. Crew members were knowledgable and entertaining. I highly recommend Randy's Whale Watching trip for any interested in this type of adventure.

This trip was for my stepfather. He was sick with food poisoning the night before and couldn't make the trip. We understand that we can't get a refund but wish we could reschedule for another trip without paying.

The excursion out to the open waters off the California coast was exceptional. The water was blue and clear. Dozen of dolphins, in fact 3 species, made a special show and delighted all persons aboard Randys' rig. We saw many whales and had fun trying to guess their whereabouts as they spouted their blow hole and returned down below the surface. I felt the cost of the trip was well worth the fun and memories that will last a life time.

This was great trip took my son for his birthday we had a great time and limited out. Jason the deck hand was first rate and so was the captain. They had great equipment and took care of everything. Looking forward to my next trip!

I go to monterey once a year to fish and this was the best trip yet. The Captain knew were to go so that we were able to catch our limits. The deck hand " Joey " was outstanding. Thanks " Monterey Star " for a great fishing trip !

We booked with Randy's but because their boats were full, we were sent to one of Chris's boats - the Star of Monterey. Our group consisted of four sisters from Sacramento and the Bay Area. Two are experienced and two are novice fishermen. It was an overcast day, water fairly calm, no white caps. The trip out to Big Sur took approximately 2 hours. The captain was great, he located a school of rock cod and from what I could see, everyone hooked up right away. Once the action slowed, the captain had us reel up and he found us another school in no time. We were "speed fishing" all day. The boat was fairly full and our lines tangled with some of the other fisherman's which is common. Our deckhand Joey was awesome. He was everywhere at once untangling lines, helping us unhook fish and making sure everyone had a good time. A number of people got sea sick, but everyone went home with their limit of fish. I would recommend this trip to anyone that likes to fish or wants to learn. The captain and deckhand will teach you everything you need to know to catch fish, you just need to listen.

We were a group of 7 (3 cousins and 4 friends). We had a blast. Caught the limmit despite some technical difficulties with the gear (of our own doing of course lol). The deckhand was great about everything and especially quick to get our gear working again. I like the fact that we were able to bring our own beer and grub on board and there wasn't a laundry list of do's and don'ts (no doubt there is but all the passengers were extremely well behaved so that always helps). Very professional staff that didn't treat you like an idiot even if sometimes we didn't know what we were doing. And most importantly we were allowed to smoke cigarettes on board. The $10 to clean the fish did not feel like a rippoff and was well worth it. WE WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK. PS. To the guy that made the comment about the deckhand before the trip started, what the hell are you talking about? He was a good guy all the way around.

At first I was skeptical that all would catch their limits since I have heard many of the better fisherman simply donate their fish to the needy. However, I have to say that even if you have never fished before it would be hard not to catch your limits. The capitan knows his stuff. Also the deckhand was extremely hepful. He would walk around helping you with whatever is necessary. The only con about this trip is the legnth it took us to get to the spot. It took us a little over 2 hours to get there. It was somewhere near Big Sur. Bottom line, if you have never done deepsea fishing or fished before, I HIGHLY recommend this.

We saw 2 humpback whales and a school of about 20 dolphins. The dolphins swam along side the boat. It was really amazing!
