Randy's Fishing and Whale Watching Trips

I highly recommend Randy's whale watching trip. The staff was very friendly and I loved the boat. We were able to see gray whales and about a hundred or so dolphins. We watched other larger whale watching boats that were packed with people and were so glad we went with Randy's instead. There were some large swells so don't eat greasy food before you go and take dramamine if you a prone to seasickness. I will definitely be going on another trip with Randy's in the future! So much fun!

we did enjoy the trip very much. You do want to bring your own bags if you go in the later afternoon. The skipper only had see through bags for those who were sea sick. That was a little distracting. The whale part on the other hand was glorious. The skipper had the patience to cruise as long as it took to find them. The loudspeaker did not have enough transmission power, so most of what was said got drowned by wind and engine noise. That was a shame giving that much was said and little was understood.

Rockfishing trip. Small boat, tight space, one deckhand, no live bait, traveled far, rough seas. The weather turned bad quick. They put us on fish deep at several spots. There's too many personal coolers laying around. I wish we didn't have to travel far and fish so deep. Cranking up fish with 12oz weights that deep is a workout. Fare was cheap.

i was kinda okay trip .. dint see much whale activity, and the seas were very rough. the amenities on the boat were pretty mean.

It sounded like a fun thing to do but will NEVER do it again. We got very sick and the waves were very big I thought we would have gone back in cause they were so big. We saw a few things but my husband and I were sick along with everyone else on out boat.

The staff at Randy's were friendly and nice, and since they did not have enough passangers to make a trip economical they put me on a boat from another company. This was fine since all the companies really go to the same area anyway. We saw a good sized pod of Risso"s dolphins which were fun to watch. We only came upon 2 seperate pods of whales and were about 100-150 yards away. No jumps or spy hopping, but did see a tail or 2. Saw plenty of large jelly fish on the way out, which was really interesting to see in the clear calm water. Realizing that animals do what they want and there is no guarantee if you see any or not, it was still worth the boat 2 1/2 hr boat ride.

Not sure if it wouldve been better didnt see anything except for seagals

When we arrived at Randy's they told us that they didn't have enough people for one of their boats. They told us that they combined forces with Princess tours and that we would be going out with the Princess crew and their guests. I liked the fact that Randy's combined resources with princess instead of taking an empty boat out. The princess crew did their best but whales cannot be summoned on demand. We had one viewing of a large grey whale which was spectacular. It was nice day and the boat ride was nice with beautiful views of the shoreline. For die hard whale watchers I would recommend people going out during a season when whales are more prevalent. If your more realistic and understand that animals are animals and do not exist for your viewing pleasure, then enjoy the ride regardless of whether you see anything.

Randy's whale watching was a great experience. After we started seeing whales, and the convergence of other whale watching boats starting coming along, my girlfriend and I were happy to be on Randy's boat instead of one of the other overcrowded larger boats around. The captain was knowledgeable and friendly, and would always turn the boat so we could get the best view of the pod. We will DEFINITELY be doing this again!

This was my husband Marc and my 2 trip the first one was great I had a blast I didn't even get sick some tommy ache not much the weather was great, the second trip wasn't as fun I was sick the whole time I didn't take the the dramameed in time and well I got sick sick sick. we didn't plan ahead to see what the weather was gonna be like it was to choppie for me However my husband was such a sport about it he fished for the both of us and caught I believe 19 cod fish and six macreel which I love love love to eat. We are planning one more trip before the summer ends. The captains were nice but I have yes a favorit that is Brent such a sweet man and Josh well Josh is a charactor. It was a great trip out on the ocean. I think we got closer to the whales than the other boats I saw out there. The boat we rode on the "Carolina" has seen much better days but for the price it was a good deal! I would suggest sitting near the front of the boat..it seemed like they got a better view. We saw dolphins, humpback whales, and seals. The only thing lacking was comfortable seating and the kids lost interest on the way back. All in All..WORTH IT!!! Check it out!!!

Good fishing trip. Good skipper. Good Deckhand. I got seasick, but also brought home some great tasting fish. I would recommend this trip.

For the 2nd time we were disappointed in Randy's. Last year we had a whale watching trip cancelled at the last minute after we drove 160 miles and arrived at the dock. This year my two grandsons and I were booked a cod fishing trip that when we arrived at the dock at 6:30am discovered that they had chartered the boat to a large group and we were left 'in the cold'. There was no one at the office, no notice before driving the 160 miles to the dock (email!!), no notice at the dock. A kind bystander mentioned that they were a part of the charter and maybe we should go to Chris's Fishing Trips because he thought they were taking Randy's customers booked on the cod trip. So at the last minute we got on Chris's boat.....at least my two grandsons were not disappointed. Do yourself a favor.....book with Chris's.......had a great fishing trip with them!

Well , the office that you wait in on the pier is full of smokers,nice people but no respect for the non smokers.The captain of the boat will wait for late passengers if you have already paid for your tickets, so thats a plus if your running behind.The deck mate only came out of the captains area once in awhile, mostly when there was no whales around or to let us know there was a whale,When, we finally found a whale the captain never got close enough to let us see them, And I have a zoom camera. When we found one, They didn't get close enough to reap any rewards, so that sucked.We were out so long that the boat raced toward shore for about an hour and a half at full throttle. so a family with a little girl , had to comfort her the whole time because she was vomiting everywhere. Another couple had waves coming over the cabin and landing on them , soaking them completely . So all I have to say is go with the Monterey bay whale watch(aka Sam's) We did them last year and they get as close as possible,And there captain doesn't beat you half to death on the way back.

It is good to take sea sick pills starting the night before and then again one hour before going out. I did not get sick at all. I caught my limit of fish and then some, so I gave some away. The boat ride was fun in addition to catching fish.
