Stumbled across the flyer for the tour in a window of a music store. Thought we'd give it a go-and we are so glad that we did! Mr. Pin was a very informative guide with tones of knowledge and even pointed out some great East Village places to hang out. Would definitely reccomdend this tour to anyone-great way to explore the East Village!!

Great Rock & Roll Tour

If you are into New York City rock and roll history from the 60s, 70s, 80's and 90's you would enjoy this tour. My husband and I loved the tour. Bobby Pinn is a great tour guide full of interesting and fun info. We really enjoyed spending the 2 hours with him. At the end of the tour he even gave us a list of places to eat, drink and shop. We used the 15% off coupon at Trash & Vaudeville. We ate at one of his pizza places, Gruppo, and the pizza was great. We even bought the yummy traditional East Village Egg Cream drink he told us about. Very fun, interactive, educational. We highly recommend it to all rock fans!

Rock history from a different angle

If you are interested in music and the history of rock, this tour will give you some new knowledge from a slightly different angle than you can get from a book or a TV documentary. Iīve come for three years with a group of music-students. Everybody is pleased. Itīs also, at the same time, a good chance to get to know East Village. A two hour walk with a very nice guide, mr. Bobby Pinn. Yoohoo! Harald Markussen

Our Rock tour of the East Village was one of the highlights oif our trip to NYC. Bobby is a passionate guide and gives you a great insight into the the rock scene of days gone by that thrived in the happening East Village - its the place of legends and Bobby is clearly a huge admirer of the bands and music scene from that part of town. Oh, and be sure to try a Egg Creme - v unusual if you've never had one before, but hey, if its good enough for the Ramones ....!

On every corner in Greenwich Village you can breathe history: Bob Dylan, Patti Smith, Jimi Hendrix, Bruce Springsteen, The Stones etc. etc. Wow!! This tour really has it all! Thanks to our wonderful guide for the perfect walk through the sunny Village. We really enjoyed it and will come back soon.

This was one of the highlights of my trip to New York: an informative, fun tour of the East Village by someone immersed in the stories. Very well done and with some great touches. If you're into punk or rock, you'll love it.

Fascinating tout of the East Village

Like many Canadians, we like going to NYC for Easter. This time, I wanted something more autentic and interesting than the usual attractions. We booked this tour upon the recommendation of a friend who had done it a few years ago. It was a great idea. Bobby Pin knows and love his city and it shows. Bobby was punctual and had tons of funny stories about people and places that made rock and roll history. In a very short time, Bobby helped us better understand and appreciate a part of Manhattan we knew very little about. I actually envy the East Village to have someone like him as an ambassador. I strongly recommend this tour to any visitor, regardless of their musical preferences. When I go back to NYC, I plan to book another tour with him.

For people who know their 70s rock/punk history

If you are fan of Led Zeppelin and The Rolling Stones you will enjoy seeing the building used for Led Zeppelin's "Physical Graffiti" album cover and for The Rolling Stones "Waiting On A Friend" video. It was great seeing the Fillmore East building too. Also, great for fans of Iggy Pop and 70s punk bands The Ramones and New York Dolls. You get to see quite a few landmarks associated with them. I would not recommend the tour for anyone under 50 years old unless they are a fan of some of the groups or era.

Larry - The Magican of MacDougal Street
Sun, Mar 24  11:00 AM Protevs Male 50-59 International Tourist(s) Couple on a Date
I'm from Norway and I've never actually fancied The Big Apple at all (My prejudice is more in tune with Henry Miller's "An airconditioned nightmare" than Sinatra's New York). But growing up with Dylan and the mythology of Greenwich Village I always knew that if I ever should cross the Atlantic and land in NY, Greenwich Village must be the place to visit. One sunday in march I finally landed - in a bulidingblock at Times Square!! (Novotel, called). And after the first disneyshock - there wasn't even a cracy clown or a wildlooking streetsinger around, just plasticpushers - I went to the Village. And met an overentusiastic streetpoet from Brooklyn, Larry Germack. And although it was quite obvious that the Village had changed - probably for the worse (but then again, who hasn't?) - that streetstrolling down the holy boulevards of broken nostalgia with The Magican of MacDougal street restored my faith - in vinyl and visionary villains of the past. Ok, Cafe Wah? was as outdated and commercialised as expected, The Gaslight was closed, Garric Theatre had become a bank and Zappa is dead, Gerde's Folk city has turned into a synagogue!!, The Bottom End looked like an antiseptic horror from Dante's Inferno, designed for spoiled and richy retrokids (By the way, I actually spotted a whole park nearby Lincoln center dedicated to Dante! - I never knew he took the trip to NY. But then again, I didn't knew either that Schiller used to hang out in Central Park, and Garibaldi used to do his tricks for free in Washington Square Park!). But in Blue Note - another overexpensed, overregulated and shabbyshiny maniachole - I at least met George Duke and showed him my t-shirt from our Yellow Snow Festival in Larvik/Norway. Sorry for you, George, that you had to be marionettemanaged into dealing with us dollarpilgrims! But I still love your music, though, and the concert with you and Stanley Clarke was a hightligt!) And more ups: I found some welequipped record-stores, talked to the look-a-like-Lennon Roy in the amazing Lebowsky-boutiqe in Thomson-street, bought a Horus' eye-ring at the Jokers in Bleeker street and a leather jacket in a gipsyvintage in the same street, and drank lots of decent pints in some charming waterholes - Peculiar pub and The White Horse tavern. But first and foremost, my wife and I spent a golden afternoon with Lightning Larry, the walking Village-quotemachine. The two hour-tour "gravitated" - Larry's favourite-expression - into an inspired four-hour long and lovely learned lecture. We loved every second of it!! Thanks to Larry and the rock junket-entusiasts. The Village has a history and you keep it alive. I've already decided that I will go back sometime. When the trees in Jones Street has put some colors on. In summa theologica: to all you desillusioned vinylfreaks and overeduacted rock'n roll-shitheads out there: Hope has a name: He's called Larry and you find him in The Village on a sunny sunday! Cheers! Kjeld-Willy-The-Pimp-Hansen

Saved the walking tour of East Village for my last day in New York, and was not dissappointed. Bobby Pinn is an excellant guide, he knows what he is talking about and how to present it to the punters by keeping it both interesting and amusing. If you want to stand around in queues going through security check after security check head for the Empire State building. If you want a taste of what real New York is like and to hear great stories about some of those that have lived the life in the city get yourself booked on Bobby's Rock Junket, I didn't want the tour to end - it really is that good. If you are a Rock/Punk music fan and your are in town this is an absolute must! I can't recommend it enough.

As a Ramones fan it was great to tour the area of their former years! Bobby was there at the time and was able to transfer his knowledge and enthusiasm. On Bobby's recommendation also had a great couple of hrs in Manitobas bar! wouldn't have left but for the wife telling me i had already drank to much!
