A Walk On the Wild Side
Wed, Apr 11, 07   1:00 PM MariaLHarris Female 40-49 International Tourist(s) Family Without Children
My concern before embarking on this walking tour was that we would not locate the meeting point as a previous reviewer had complained that it was difficult to find. I worried unnecessarily however - we met up with our guide Bobby Pinn with no problems at all. After being warmly welcomed, we then embarked on a fascinating two hour or so walk around the (once) wild side of New York, the area that provided the spawning ground for the 70s NY punk scene. We started where Joey Ramone once lived, walked the streets that Debbie Harry and the boys in Blondie tramped, posed in front of legendary New York Dolls' hangout, walked through Iggy Pop's old neighbourhood and ended our tour outside the sad sight / site of the now defunct CBGBs. Throughout our tour Bobby gave us some great anecdotes and tales of Rock n' Roll excess and strangeness, as well as testing us on our rock trivia. To the passer-by it must look odd to see a group of tourists huddling round an un-prepossessing grocery store on the Lower East Side gazing at its frontage in awe, (particularly being as we were in the shadow of some of the world's greatest architectural landmarks), however the tour really gives the participant a flavour of the environment and conditions that informed the work of so many of the greats from the NY music scene of the 60s and 70s. Plus it's a great way to burn off some of those calories amassed from a heavy egg and pancake breakfast earlier!

I'd recommend this to ANYBODY who has the faintest bit of interest in Rock and Roll music. Bobby Pinn is THE authority on the New York scene and on my tour there were lots of "Oohs" & "Aahs"...there seemed to be another Rock and Roll revelation on every street!! Ernie Fritz rocks!!!

A group of four girlfriends including one NYC resident took this tour and we all really enjoyed it. Bobby certainly knows his stuff and is happy to share his love of the NY rock/punk scene. Such a pity that CBGBs is closed. Do the walk then go back and listen to your fave Ramones tracks with new enthusiasm!

A step back into Rock and Roll history....

This was great. I have spent a lot of time in New York, but always did my own thing and never appreciated the stories behind some of the most infamous rock legends. Probably because I didn't know the stories. Going to places like where The Stones "Waiting on a Friend" video was shot took you back and you could actually imagine what it was like to be there. Standing in front of where Warhol held his Electric Circus was so amazing to just sit there and picture these people coming and going and what was happening inside. I always wished I was alive and old enough during that time to be there. Go on this tour, close your eyes and use your imagination. I also suggest if you go on Saturday hit B Bar and Grill on 4th and Bowery. It had an amazing brunch. One of the best Bloody Mary's and Steak Breakfast Burritos I have ever had. Thanks Bobby Pinn! This tour was one of the major highlights of our trip to New York! Bobby Pinn who leads the tour is not only an awesome guy, but a wealth of Rock Knowledge! I pride myself on knowing alot of musical history; but I learned so much from just a few hours on this tour! It not only shows you all the musical hot spots, but gives you a great walking class on the Village in New York! I highly recommend that anyone who loves music put this tour at the top of your "to do " list! Rock On!

Our tour guide knew his stuff. We got to hear some great stories that related to the sights we were seeing. He had brought pictures and albums along so we could see the artists as he talked about them. We had fun and saw some really rad places!

First, I can't say enough abour Rock Junket tour guide Bobby Pinn. He was a wealth of knowledge, and was able to share this in a fun and interesting way. My wife and I brought our 20 year old daughter, and there was something for everybody. While some of these sites may have been converted to something different; eg. the Filmore East is now a bank building), Bobby had pictures of it in its heyday, and it seemed to transport us miraculously to that time. And ALWAYS an interesting story about something that had taken place there, or somebody who had performed there...usually in a rather eccentric manner. We had a great day, and look forward to the time when we can return to take some of Rock Junket's new tours! You the Man, Bobby!

This Rock 'N' Roll walking tour was fabulous. We booked to do this at the beginning of our 10 day stay and this proved so good because on this walking tour you really get to see some places of rock culture history that brings NYC streets and the East Village to life as you imagine the groudbreaking 60's culture, the birth of punk in the US and so many other great sights & facts. Bobby Pin - our guide - was so friendly, knowledgable and interesting that the whole 2 hours passed by and you felt you could stick around for a few days just living the rock 'n' roll history through his narrative. We even grabbed a beer with him at a local bar after ! Great value and so worthwhile to see the real NYC. If you love music and some of the greatest bands ever, then DO THIS TOUR ASAP. Just hope he goes international and does a similar tour in London. I lived there and I'd still go on it !!!

My girlfriend and I found the rock Junket tour to be surely worthwile and a good way to spend a couple hours on a Sauturday morning. Our guide was good -natured, well-prepared, and entertaining. We appreciated that in addition to the music related sites, he also had plenty to offer on history and background about the East Village in general. And having some vintage pictures and album covers to flesh out the tour sites was a welcome addition. Give it a go ---- there are plenty of worse ways to use a couple hours.

Good stories and details, not just the obvious

The rock junket tour covered the history of rock in New York City in a surprisingly concise and amusing manner. I saw not just the obvious places like CBGB and Joey Ramone Place but also less-known places that would be difficult to find out about without expert help. The tour also covered a wider array of musical genres than I expected, ranging from punk and glam to pop and jazz.

Great tour - we are from Sydney, Australia & wanted to do something a bit different in NY. Bobby knows heaps about the NY rock scene, has a good sense of humour plus you can go with him for a beer at the end of the tour! What more could you want! An offbeat tour that is well recommended.
