On the Hudson in the Adirondack
Sun, Nov 1  11:00 AM hjguiles Male 60-69 Local Couple on a Date
The four hour sail up the Hudson was well worth the money. For the same cost as a show or a bus tour, you get a relaxing, quiet look at the Manhattan skyline and NJ Palisades. Plus, drinks (yes, with Rum if you want it) a sandwich and a knowledgeable, friendly crew are included. The trip ran from the 23rd street dock to the GW Bridge. Although we were expecting more mileage, the distance was right for the time, given the wind and current conditions. There seemed to be little space to retreat to if it rained, so be prepared for the prevailing weather conditions [although the web site says the trip would be cancelled if the weather is too inclement]. We sailed on a crisp November day, and it felt like we successfully extended our Summer vacation.

Despite the chilly weather, it was great to sail up the Hudson to see the foliage. The crew was fabulously attentive. Good food and drink, great day.

Take weather into consideration

This is a beautiful afternoon on a gorgeous river in a wonderful sailing vessel with a competant delightful, accomodating crew. AND it was far too cold to be on the water even with the hot cider and blankets! I highly recommend this adventure on a WARM or HOT summer day or a WARM early fall day. Food left a great deal to be desired. We are a married couple and will take our grandchild on a shorter cruise this coming summer. The few children aboard got very bored after an hour or so. I think a two houir cruise is better suited to children under 13.

It was our second trip and it was fabulous. It was a chilly fall day and the leaves were beautiful. It was warm inside the cabin of the motoryacht and the brunch was delicious while we sailed up the Hudson. We're planning our next trip.

Disappointing Sailing Never Left Manhattan

We enjoyed perfect weather on our trip. Our upstream trip was pleasant although extremely slow. Having been forewarned that the trip upstream was against the current, this was understandable. When we reached the point just beyond the George Washington Bridge. the vessel came to a stop and we drifted for about half and hour. We had been traveling just about two hours. Our captain then turned the vessel around and we headed back. In order to keep us out on the water for the remaining two hours , he than tacked the boat from east to west about ten times until we reached Chelsea Piers again, thus giving us ample views of the Jersey condominiums and Manhattan piers. This was my first trip on the Imagine. It's a splendid boat and you feel wonderful being out in the water on such a vessel. Unfortunately, I got the distinct impression that the captain gives the same speech each time to the groups that he takes out on the river in order to prepare them for a short trip up the river. I was extremely disappointed that he only took us up to the GWB. Perhaps he had to stop there due to low fuel but In my opinion, he should have taken us farther upstream. At least past Manhattan Island instead of only to the GWB and back. The hard working, cordial crew did not compensate for the average lunch. The turkey wraps were soggy and had no condiments except for lettuce. The hot cider was delicious.
