A Perfect 10 Sail
Sun, Aug 31  4:30 PM carollavis Female 60-69 Local Other
As a member of the crew said, the weather, wind, and tide made the sail one of the top 20 in the year. I'm a sailing nut without a boat so I try to get on 2-3 trips a year at least. When the motor went off early in the cruise, my heart leapt for joy (too often, even in the Caribbean the captain and crew are anxious to "get there" and anxious to "get back" and keep the motor going to make time). There was a serene "whatever" feel to the trip and the emphasis was on the sail. The fellow sailors were quiet and subdued. I would have liked a bit more adventurous tacking but the wind was moving us sweetly along and we loved the wind in our hair and the clean air in our lungs! What a treat it would have been to extend the trip by an hour and do a bit more "blue water" sailing. Tell us if you decide to offer that in '09.

very pleasant ride and friendly staff

Recommend this as a nice sail for everybody.Very small children would get antsy after a bit though. Only suggestion would be they should give an occasional narration or interesting story about the harbor skyline or buildings, etc. Would do it again.

Much better than Circle Line

I traveled with my grandson who is 13 years old. We would have liked to go around Governor's Island as described in the review program. Also, the waterfalls at the Brooklyn Bridge would have been fun if that section of Manhattan would have been included. My grandson enjoyed the trip but thought it was a little boring. (do not use my name for any reviews) Thanks.

Lovely Boat but...

Ths was a sailing schooner, but there was no wind. So there was no sailing. I would rather not have spent $80 each for a sail that did not happen. I could have had the same motor ride on a larger boat meant to motor. The service was great, the guides were great, but it was very disappointing . Even though a beautiful day, very hot in the sun with no wind. I would recommend if there is wind. But they don't tell you if it will be windy or not.

A Quiet, Different Way to See the Skyline & Statue
Sun, Aug 31  2:00 PM keepsmiling Female 20-29 Combination Group of Friends
I've taken many Circle Line Tourist Cruises around Manhattan and past the Statue of Liberty, so when a friend recommended the Schooner Adirondack, I was excited for a cool ride with not so many people. While it was a neat experience to ride on the Hudson River on a sailboat, I found the actual activity to be a little disappointing. First, I went with a group of 4 people, and we were not all able to sit next to each other due to a lack of seating. (FYI - try to be the first in line if you want to sit with your group). Second, there was no commentary about what we were seeing. I'm a New Yorker, so it wasn't that important to me, but for my friends who were visiting from out of town (and who didn't get to sit with me), they found it frustrating to just be looking at the skyline and not really knowing what they were seeing. Finally, the activity advertised that we would go around the tip of Manhattan and sail to just under the Brooklyn Bridge. We didn't do that at all. We basically sailed down the Hudson, circled the Statue of Liberty and went back up the Hudson to Chelsea Piers. I was quite disappointed. So, I can't say that it wasn't a nice activity - but I just was expecting something a little more fun and exciting. If you like quiet, peaceful rides with cool scenery, you would like this activity. If you're looking to learn a bit about New York, talk and have fun with your family or friends, and be with more of an upbeat, energetic crowd, this is not for you.

Fantastic Sailing on a beautiful Labor Day Weekend

I decided to surprise my date with a trip into the city from Jersey to do something a little different this time. The day was beautiful and although we didn't have as much wind as we would have liked, the experience was a positive one! The Adirondack is a great ship, the crew was fantastic and very helpful and the sights were wonderful...We will go back on a windier day to take full advantage of the sails! Thanks, Larry

Sailing around NYC was a great experience. The crew was great and the sail boat was clean - two items I believe are important They offered drinks which was unexpected but certainly cured my thirst. I highly recommend it.

Much Better Than Giant Cattle Boat Tours

My wife and I were in town on biz trip. Wanted to spend the day outside and still see some sights, didn't want to ride in a big ferry boat. We chose instead what turned out to be a beautiful wooden masted sailing schooner the Adirondack. The crew was very friendly and fun to talk to. We sailed to the Statue of Liberty and motored back but is was very peaceful with the engines off and under sail. Beers were generously served, note the evening cruise costs $10 more and you get an upgrade in beer brands and wine as a choice. Great way to spend the afternoon. 5 stars all the way....

Unique way to see Manhattan
Sat, Aug 30  2:00 PM sstarick Female 30-39 International Tourist(s) Group of Friends
I had a couple of friends visit from London and it was recommended to me by a colleague to take them out on on a schooner as a unique way to see Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty. The cruise lasted two hours and exceeded our expectations. It was a fantastic way to see the city on a beautioful summer afternoon. The staff were very friendly and informative and the vessel itself was great - we were very glad we had chosen to go on Imagine rather than go on a larger 'touristy' cruise.... one of our group was a local New Yorker and they also thoroughly enjoyed seeing Manhattan in this way. All in all I would highly recommend this as a great introduction to the sights of NYC!
