a not-to-miss venue

Nothing like getting out into NY harbor with sails up and engines off, unlike the floating boomboxes around us that were the alternatives. Crew very personable. Met some nice people that one could have a conversation with during the serenity of the sail.

A Most Memorable Afternoon

This was my fourth trip on the Adirondack; three in NYC and one in Newport. The crew is delightful and accomodating. They explain the highlights of NYC and also about the boat. And they work hard. I recommend this activity to everyone.

Great alternative to standard rehearsal dinner

Rather than have a sit-down rehearsal dinner for our son's wedding, we decided to take the wedding party and out-of-town family (25 total guests) on the Manhattan brunch cruise (Saturday, June 14). It was the first time most members of the two familes met each other, and it was a great way to visit and see the sights while having brunch. The out-of-towners were thrilled, but the native New Yorkers were equally delighted. What was particularly nice about the brunch was that the food arrived in stages: continental breakfast foods with a waffle station and fresh fruit and cheese first, followed by eggs & sausage, and finally sliced ham and tossed salad. I'm sure there was more, but I was too busy mingling with the guests. The food was well prepared and nicely presented. The brunch cruise was simply a hit with everyone. The only negatives were that the air conditioning couldn't adequately cool the glass enclosed cabin on the sunny day. Perhaps retractable shades could be installed on the overhead glass for these occasions. Also, as the organizer, I would have arranged to cover additional drinks for my guests if I knew that the beer, wine, etc. was limited to the first drink. That wasn't particularly clear in the description on the website. It was fairly easy to get to Chelsea Pier by taxi, but don't rely on the taxi stands in front of the pier to catch a return cab. Very few cabs came through there, and the ones that did were occupied. After about 20 minutes, we walked a couple of blocks to 10th Avenue where taxis were abundant. I know at least 25 people who would give this event a thumbs up!

Greatest Secret TREASURE in NYC!
Thu, Jun 12, 08   1:00 PM mdluvsrn Female 50-59 Local Family With Children
Taking a 2 hour sail down the Hudson River on an almost silent, magnificent sailing boat is truely one of the best kept secrets in NYC!!! Better bang for your buck than a Broadway show! $40 for adults and $25 for kids up to 13 is a total steal! The crew are professional, smart, incredibly competent and make the trip a joy. Crew members have had past successful carrers so they're enjoying the sail as much as the passengers because they have chosen to sail and love their jobs. Sailing at 1pm, with a slight breeze, sunny skies, sitting on the side, cruising comfortably, sipping a soda or beer, smelling the salt water , enjoying the views of lower manhattan, feeling the tension realease from everywhere, feel lulled to sleep, or dream of being far away, listening to birds, the splash of the water, the rigging of the sails up and down, watching the smiles and peace on everyone's face...worth so much more. We brought lunch in refrigerated packs and enjoyed snacking and letting the world drift by. What a treasured moment to share with my children and friends. Next time we'll do it at sunset with wine and cheese. Made our day a fabulous memory to cherish forever.

Delightful Evening

We had a wonderful time on the cruise. Our group was my husband and I and 5 teen/adult children. Everything was fun and the crew was fantastic. There was a bachelorette party that was a bit rowdy, but it was Saturday night! The only complaint I would have is that it was a bit crowded making it difficult to move around much, but that's probably a good idea as far as the crew is concerned!! All in all, we had a great time and would recommend this to others in our situation or to couples. BTW, the advance reservation was nicely handled as well. Meghan (I think?) was very accommodating. Thanks

I and I think my date had a great time on the "Imagine". The weather was perfect and there was a nice wind for this magnificent schooner. The guys who crewed were so nice as was the captain. I hope I can do it again. David

Schooner Adirondack

My friend and I did not know what to expect since neither ever been sailing before. After boarding the boat, we and other parties were seated. We were told of the safety issues and where to stand if we wanted. The crew members were very nice and cordial. After the instructions, immediately we were asked what you wanted to drink such as soda, beer, or water which was served about three times on board. The boat ride was very nice. That Saturday was a gorgeous day to be out on the boat because of the very high temperature on land. We took pictures of the famous landmarks. Just relax and chill from the cool breezes that were flowing. It was great and enjoyed it immensely. I'd recommend this boat ride to others.

Wonderful Experience

I was so impressed with this cruise. We took the motor yacht full circle around Manhattan. You could sit inside in comfort or on walk the decks. We have taken various cruises around the world and this by far ranks as one of the best. I grew up in Manhattan and learned a lot about the city. I have recommended this cruise to my friends in New York and my friends visiting New York. The service was excellent, the food was way above expectations and you even received a free glass of champagne. There was no one there taking your pictures and later trying to sell them to you. There was no one trying to sell you souvenirs. It was just a wonderful and relaxing experience.

Fantastic trip

There are not enough words to describe what a great trip this was. We received 1st Class treatment every step of the way. My sister-in-law is handicapped. The staff on the trip went out of their way to make it safe for her to enter and exit the sailing ship. They were absolutely wonderful and she ended up having a once in a life time trip. The captain was excellent and her staff also. The views were perfect and we were able to get many great photos of the sunset. The drinks were plentiful and the staff very gracious about serving. Again I would suggest this trip as the perfect date, or the best way to get an intro to NYC or for those who have lived for years in NYC and have not been on the water ,this trip is perfect.

fantastic experience.
Thu, Jun 5, 08   1:00 PM foxtrax Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
although we realize we really lucked out as there were only six passengers and one captain and two crew members that day it was a fabulous experience that we will do again and again. not having to compete with a crowd made the experience feel like we chartered a private sailboat for the two hours. the captain and crew were enthusiastic and considerate. we were grateful for the beverages (would love if wine could have been part of the choice though) . we appreciated their knowledge for the area/buildings, etc. (my husband works in nyc/nbc) so he was more familiar with the territory than me. the crew did their job and took great pride in their jobs. although i'm sure we won't have that kind of luck again (so few passengers) we look forward to sailing again and again and again. it truly was a fantastic experience for both of us. (it was a gift certificate from a friend to acknowledge my 50th birthday and our 26th wedding anniversary). our kind of gift!! can't wait to sail again. thank you. sincerely, jeanne and rick fox

Great team experience in spite of the rain
Wed, Jun 4, 08   8:30 PM dhaynes Male 50-59 Combination Other
We had a group of about 20 people from different areas of the corporation marketing, finance, operations, IT and outside consultants who have been working on a project together for about 6 -9 months. We scheduled the cruse as an opportunity for all of us to get together outside the work environment and see a side a NYC that many of us had never seen before, even the ones who live here. We were apprehensive about the forecasted 20-30% probability for rain. We debated whether to try to reschedule or not but finally decided that there was no guarantee of ever picking a day with 0% chance of rain. In the end we decided to trust the judgment of the very professional crew who do this for a living. They monitor the weather with radar. If they decided the weather was too bad they would cancel the trip. Five of our group wimped out and stayed home. They missed a great experience! Sure enough it did start to drizzle on us about the time we were getting ready to leave. But the crew provided everyone with some very attractive yellow rain coats (Large only, no XLs or petites). It continue to drizzle for about the first half of the trip but that didn't dampen our spirits. If anything it added to the experience and the team bonding. The wine, beer and Champaign probably helped :-) Then the rain stopped. We had a great view of the Statue of Liberty and the lights of NY & NJ. It was beautiful. The experience of sailing into the wind on a magnificent sailing yacht with the boat heeled to one side from the wind as you sail past the lights of NY was an amazing experience that none of us will ever forget. I can't say enough good things about the service we receive from the whole City Lights team from the front office that helped us plan and schedule our trip to the crew on the boat, they were all professionals. More than that, they were genuinely nice and seemed to really enjoy what they were doing. Bottom line, it was a great experience all the way around. I'm looking forward to doing it again soon.
