Very nice - elegant atmosphere

Crew was very professional. However, if you are looking for an informative outing, try something like the Circle Line tours. This outing was very relaxing and perfect for viewing the Statute of Liberty up close and all of the lights of the city.

Great way to see the city at night - even in rain

We really enjoyed the night time cruise. We had originally booked the schooner Adirondack, but it was raining, so the schooner was in dock. We were offered a tour on the 1920's style yacht, Manhattan, because it had an enclosed area. It was wonderful, even though it rained. It was great that we were offered an option rather than having the tour completely canceled. Staff was friendly and the atmosphere was nice. I think the rain kept the number of tourists down. The yacht we were on probably held 90 people, but there were only about a dozen of us on it. It was very relaxing. I'd highly recommend the boat tour to anyone who hasn't seen NYC at night.

I can see that the tour would be great on certain days, but I happened to go on a rainy day. Because of the weather, we had to stay inside the boat. The boat got hot and clammy, which caused me to get sick. If you can go on a day where the weather is nice and be able to go outside, I say go for it! If not, stay home.

Great time on the water

In all our visits to Manhattan since we bought a place there five years ago, we've never taken to the water. This was a delightful break, an hour and a half of seeing the sights from new perspectives. The captain and crew were friendly and competent, Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty were moving, and the waterfalls along the river (a big, temporary art installation, for those who don't follow these things) were amazing. Full disclosure: I tend to like being on the water no matter what. The day was breezy (though the East River portion wasn't), with blowing rain much of the time and a moderate chop out in the harbor. Despite this, we spent most of our time on the MV Manhattan outside, in back of the helmsman's position, chatting about this and that when the captain wasn't narrating the journey or concentrating on surrounding boats. The cabin area behind was warm and cozy, and the boat takes the waves well, so no one seemed to be bothered by the slight motion.

Will take other visitors

Unforgettable. My 12 year old enjoyed it just as much as the newlywed visitors whom we took on the boat ride. The weather was perfect, the views out of this world and the price could not be beat for this fun, relaxing and unique experience. We really liked the deck hands who served the beverages. Some of the guests took advantage of the liberal offerings of alcohol and seemed too tipsy to realize that they are actually on a boat with others and not in the privacy of their bedroom. Otherwise, this was the best time one could have on a nice evening in NYC.

romantic sunset cruise to view the Waterfalls
Thu, Sep 11, 08   6:30 PM shaunmurphy Male 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Couple on a Date
The ship was very roomy with nice viewing from the front of the ship. The champagne was a very nice touch and the route allowed closeup views of Ellis Is, the Statue of Liberty, lower Manhattan/Battery Park, South St Seaport, Governors Is and the Brooklyn Bridge. Plus, we saw the Waterfall display as the sunset turned to star-filled night. Really beautiful.

What a Way to Relax!

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary and it was a great way to enjoy the beauty of NYC without the traffic. The boat was clean and comfortable and the weather was fantastic. We could tell that people on the larger tour boats were envious of our romantic sail boat drifting across the river. I would definitely recommend this to domestic and international travelers.

this was suprisingly fun. i live in NYC and still really enjoyed it. when they cut the motor to use the sails, its so quiet and relaxing out on the water. its not a 'tour' so there is no constant audio. great place for a date. and the boat sails smoothly, so no seasickness.

I would do this every week if I lived in Manhattan

WOW! Much more fun to see Manhattan from a peaceful harbor sail than from a miserable cab ride! It was a perfect day, perfect sailboat, perfect crew and perfect peaceful way to end the day! Much more fun than anything I have ever done in Manhattan!

NICE TRIP BUT FOUND CAPTAIN ALOOF
Sun, Sep 7, 08   6:00 PM paulgbrigido Male 40-49 Local Couple on a Date
We arrived about 10 minutes before 6pm. As we were about 50 yards away from the dock, we could see that passengers were still boarding the ship so we knew we were not late. When we approached the ticket booth we sood behind one or two other groups of people that we thought were there for the same trip. But when we heard the ticket booth woman say to the group ahead of us that they would be boarding the boat for their trip in 30 minutes, we then realized they were not waiting for our boat so we spoke up. I said something to the effect that we were here for the 6pm trip, not directed at any one person in particular since there was the ticket booth woman and a gentleman standing outside the ticket booth. Not realizing until later that the man standing there was the captain, he just ignored my statement. The woman in the ticket booth took our e-ticket and really didn't say much more. I wasn't sure if we were to get anything in return or not, so we boarded the boat not sure if we were set to board. Once underway, and not knowing sailing terminology, it was clear that the captain gave orders to one of the ship mates that once beverage service was to begin that he was to start with the "front" then the "main" then the "duece". Clearly this meant us since we were the only two passengers sitting in the middle of the "main" section. I thought it was quite rude for the captain of this ship to 1) ignore our presence at the ticket booth just because we were the last two to arrive and perhaps he didn't want any more passengers. And 2) to single us out to get served last just becuase we were the last two on board. Luckily, the ship mates were very kind and they served in order of how we were seated. And though we were the only two in the center of the "main", we were at the front of this section and the ship mate served from front to back.
