Schooner Tour a must do in New York
Fri, Jul 18, 08   3:30 PM psoeth Male 30-39 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
This tour is a must do in New York. The staff is great, the views are amazing, and it is definitely worth the time. It doesn't get better than cruising down the Hudson from Chelsea Piers only under the power of the wind. it starts out under power of the motor to get away from the piers, but as soon as you are in open water, they drop the sails and you head south toward the Statue of Liberty and Eilis Island. Once they have the sails trimmed, the crew comes around and asks what type of drink you would like and then it is a relaxing two hours. You get to see Manhattan and its wonderful skyline from the water, you get up close to the Statue of Liberty and Eilis Island, and you get a cool and relaxing couple of hours on the water. The price is not bad either. Take the time and enjoy the Schooner Tour while you are in New York City.

On a hot summer afternoon in NYC a delightful way to see the city from the water. Nice too to be on a boat with a limited capacity.

Never saw the city look like this.

What a beautiful night. The beauty of the full moon beaming behind the Woolworth Building across the Hudson was breathtaking. Fireworks shot off behind the skyline and we felt like we were in a fairy tale. The air was sweet and we hadn't felt so relaxed in years. One suggestion. One of the passengers on our cruise insisted on making an extended business call on her cell phone. She loudly played "master of the universe" while everyone tried to relax. It was jarring and for a few minutes put a damper on the evening. Here's the suggestion. For the 2 hour cruise, why not ask all passengers to show some respect for each other and the beauty that is in front of them. On boarding, why not ask passengers to refrain from using their cell phones for the duration of the cruise. It would help everyone fully enjoy their 2 hour escape. Again, the jarring phone call was over in 10 minutes. We quickly recovered, but all things being equal we would have preferred the caller had gotten a busy signal. Thanks.

Peaceful sailing at its finest

Our first time being on a sailboat turned out to be a great experience. We hopped aboard the Adirondack and took off toward the Statue of Liberty. The city lights tour allowed us to see New York's skyline at its finest. Fireworks appeared in the backdrop of the city(unknown if its a continuous display). We then went past Ellis Island towards Liberty herself. We turned around at that point and headed back. Although your sitting next to a group of people, the experience itself takes you away from that. I recommend this to anybody.

Two hours on the Hudson with a great crew made for a perfect summer's day. Relief from the sweltering city, it must of been 20 degrees cooler on the water. Great views, great staff ,great ride.

I highly recommend the Schooner Cruise

We were a group of 7 with four children ages 11-16. There were 5 other passengers on the 4:30PM trip. It felt like we had the boat to ourselves. The captain and his mates were very personable and even let the children take the wheel at different points. I've done the Circle Line Cruise and other larger cruise ships as I have family in to visit, but something about being in a smaller group (the schooner capacity is 48 or 49 people) on the water in a sailboat really elevated the experience. They serve complimentary beverages on board. The young ones had a ball-the timing was just right (at 2 hours). I strongly recommend it.

Great Way to See the City

From start to finish, a pleasant way to enjoy Manhattan and Lady Liberty. Chelsea Piers is a nice place to embark. The crew was cordial and friendly. They seemed to enjoy the ride as much as the touristos on board. Fortunately, the weather was almost perfect (a bit more of a breeze and I think we would have sailed a bit more with the engines off). A pleasant and refreshing after-dinner activity. I would do this again with family or friends.

From the moment we stepped on board the boat, our fun began. We were immediately offered a wide range of refreshments and nothing was too much trouble for the guys on board. They all had a good sense of humour and were also very informative about the sights. The boat was comfortable and very clean and the trip will remain a fantastic memory of mine and my husband's trip to New York! Many thanks, Jo and Rich Torr

great experience -- too bad no wind
Mon, Jul 14, 08   6:00 PM BarbClapp Female 40-49 Local Family With Children
the boat and crew were lovely. As a manhattanite I was delighted that the crowd is kept small with plenty of room to move about, etc. With no wind the ride is pretty boring, just down the hudson a few miles and back up... like sailing in the bath-tub. Obviously, nothing anyone can do about that. I would love to do again soon on a day I knew we'd get plenty of wind. It was so nice. Thanks. Barb C. PS, the kid I brought with me was 12. She loved it. I don't think younger kids would have enjoyed.
