Sunset sail on the schooner Adirondack

We made the sunset sail on the schooner Adirondack under absolutely ideal conditions. The weather was beautiful, the wind was adequate, and the water had enough chop to it to give a feeling of sailing at sea. Under these conditions, the crew was able to use the vessel's full complement of sails, which is not always the case. Once we made our way away from the mooring area, we were, as the captain described it, "really sailing," and not reliant on mechanical power at all.
Under these conditions, the experience was just unforgettable. The ship moving easily and silently through the water, covering distance fairly rapidly and maneuvering among the other craft in the Hudson River and New York Bay was everything I could have hoped for from this experience.
The crew seemed to be quite competent, and did their nautical work quite well. They also served complementary glasses of wine to all those who were interested and interacted easily with the guests. There were comfortable places to sit, and the surrounding panoramic views of the skylines of New York City and New Jersey in the rapidly changing light of sunset were quite beautiful.
In short, under ideal conditions of wind and weather, the sunset sail on the Adirondack was absolutely unsurpassed. I cannot recommend it highly enough. |

Repeat visit, booked before we left the UK and it did not dissappoint. Adirondack last year, Imagine this; friendly helpful skippers, efficent, cheerful crew and maximum time under sail. I recommend these guys thoroughly. |

We enjoyed the waterfront cruise and seeing Manhattan from that perspective. The champagne added a festive touch. Very beautiful boat! Loved it. Very easy ticketing and very informative captain. Thanks |

We had a glorious day for sailing on Saturday, August 23, 2008. We boarded the Imagine right on time, with about 2/3 of us sitting on the edge of the cabin, with our feet towards the lifelines (railings) at the edge of the boat, and 1/3 on upholstered seats in the cockpit. There was plenty of room for the crew to pass between us and the lifelines to do their sailing work. One passenger had a cane, and the crew helped two people with small roller-bags by loading the bags. The boarding is not difficult, but is similar to climbing a step-stool and then across a very small gap to the deck.
There was a stiff wind from the South, so we had to tack all the way to the Statue of Liberty, which we got right "in front" of, before turning to run (i.e. "before the wind") back to Chelsea Piers. The web site holds out the possibility to (and does NOT promise to) go as far as the Brooklyn Bridge, time and weather permitting. But because it took 1 1/2 hours to get to Ellis and Liberty Islands, there was no hope of passing close by the "Waterfall" sculptures in the East River, as I had hoped we would. I had to be content with a long distance view of the two most southerly "Waterfalls".
The crew offered soft drinks, Budweiser, and Coors Light four or five times. As mentioned in their literature, I had brought our own pretzels and cheese, because we hadn't had lunch. The ship was extremely clean and comfortable, the crew pleasant and helpful, and we were back close to the appointed time. It was a wonderful outing. |

The entire 3 hours that my husband and I were on the yacht, we were totally impressed. The food that was served, what fantastic, and never seemed to end. You never know when you go on something what to expect, but this exceeded my expectations and was worth every penny. Thanks for a great time, with tones of information and wonderful food. |

This is a quality boat manned by a polite and efficient crew. Small enough to feel almost personal, quiet and clean. Endless quantities of food whilst cruising leisurely for the best views of NYC. Warmly recommended. |

We live in the New York City area and this was a really fantastic way to see Manhattan. We loved the wonderful food and the tour. The yacht and crew were wonderful. We would definitely bring out of town guests on this trip. Our only tiny complaint: the website promised that Belgian waffles would be part of the buffet and they were not. This is a pretty silly complaint in light of the fact that the food was amazing and plentiful. We just happen to be big waffle fans.
Really nice way to start the weekend. |

The vessel is truly beautiful; shiny wood and brass, just what a yacht should be. The crew was not only professional, but friendly and helpful as well, beginning right at the ticket booth. The food was simply outstanding. There should be a warning about how much more is coming! This was the last event of our trip and a truly fitting finish, which all four of us enjoyed immensely. We would recommend this highly, it was well worth the price. |

Very well organized operation. Boarded and departed right on time. Nice boat, plenty of outdoor area for good weather, and comfortable indoor area for less nice weather.
Standard downtown loop, starting at Chelsea Piers, continuing down to Ellis Island, Statue of Liberty, then over to all four of Eliason's waterfalls, and back to Chelsea Piers. 1.5 hours is just the right amount of time for this sort of thing.
No narrative -- good for locals as there is no annoying background noise, but those less familiar with what they are looking at might be somewhat at a loss.
Also, note that the free first drink is for beer, wine, champagne or soft drinks only. Mixed drinks will cost you $6.00. |

Sailing on the Hudson during sunset is a brilliant activity, totally recommend it. For some reason all others on the sail were served drinks, but not us... we had to stop waiters to get the promised drinks, each time (they offered 3 rounds to everyone else; we had 2). But it's such a pretty way to spend the afternoon/evening - sail right next to the Statue of Liberty, lovely seeig Manhattan and NJ is both the daylight and evening light - definitely recommend it. But just make sure the waiters don't neglect you. |

We had a great time celebrating a friend's birthday with with his wife and small son. We all enjoyed the late afternoon champagne and city views, and their son happily spotted buoys, ferries and tug boats. The added plus is, of course, the viewing of the waterfalls.
Much fun, a good time had by all. |
