a must see and do !!!!!!

a big shout out to all that can hear me !! i have just spent a glourious 2 hours watching the setting sky change the colors of the ny skyline and that of our neighbors. in changing your perspective to view our lives from the water with wind in your ears could possibilly make you fall in love with ny all over again. (or each other) it was my birthday and i needed space to "reflect" and that it did. a boat full of happy straingers glad to engage or leave you to your thoughts. the same goes for the smiling, capible mates who not only tended to the need of the sail but to every ones easy going enjoyment as well. offering a glass or two and checking in on your comfort and safety made this safisticated afternoon all the more pleasurable. i have told some one (any one) about this every day since i'm going again next week.

It was a relaxing experience. The refletion of the full moon on the water with Manhattan in the background was so beautiful. The captain carefully sailed the ship and made me feel safe.

It was a very exciting time. The crew was great. You get a unique view of the sights around Manhattan and the surrounding burroughs. I look forward to doing it again the next time I travel to New York City.

Like a cruise on a friend's yacht!

As an individual traveler from Toronto, the experience was like a cruise on a friend's yacht with other guests you had not met, yet. I particularly enjoy seeing great cities from the water so I have taken similar cruises in a few North American Cities ( San Francisco & Chicago, for example). This particular cruise did not have loud music (it had festive music played at a tasteful, enjoyable volume) nor did it have a megaphone-type travelogue voice telling you about every aspect of the trip. (That is why it was more like being on a friend's yacht). The food was great, lots of fresh fruit and cheeses with a full bar and the ship was seaworthy and as clean as in the Navy (I was once in the Canadian Navy). To conclude, the best part of this cruise experience was the staff and crew: they truly worked hard to make sure you were taken care of in a friendly professional manor: they made sure you found all that you needed to enjoy the trip. I highly recommend this cruise. Leo Toronto, Canada

Perfect sailing

If you are a sailor, or if you are interested in sailing, you should definitely come sailing with the Schooner Adirondack, because as soon as the ship leaves the harbour the sails are being raised and off you go to the Statute of Liberty and you do get some nice sailing! And if it rains, you get to come back for free! The crew is very nice and friendly and they do some excellent work sailing this beatiful ship. Actually, Schooner might be a Dutch word, because if you translate it to Dutch, you would say Schoener.

Why didn't I think of this sooner?

I rode in a big sailboat yesterday. It had two giant wooden masts and three big sails. It was like "Pirates of the Carribean, " only no bloodshed, and our captain had more teeth and shorter hair. He did have a Scottish accent though. Also, we sailed around New York Harbor instead of the Carribean Sea. And like I said--no bloodshed. Just sunshine, warm breeze, ocean smell, waves. No tour guide chatter. We just bumbled around and enjoyed the gorgeous day and the gorgeous air, and took care not to get clocked on the head by a boon while the friendly crew expertly worked the sails. It was one of those rare situations where time slows during a wonderful experience---the two hours seemed like all day. So my advice to any peaceful pirates out there in need of a mini soul vacation is to slip off the shores of Gotham City for a couple of hours in the Adirondack Schooner . ARGH!!!

Relaxing way to tour the harbor

If you enjoy seeing Manhattan and related from the harbour this is a very peaceful enjoyable way to do it. I was quite impressed with the Captain and crew of 2 mates. They kept the sails well tuned while navigating the ship and also serving beverages to all the guests. I will be back to NY next year and this is first on my list of things I will do again when visiting. Wear a jacket but if you forget, the crew quickly finds blankets for anyone needing one. Thanks!

pleasant sail

I enjoyed the sailing, but thought maybe the seating should be a little more comfortable for a 2 hour sail. My back hurt towards the end from not having any back support. Otherwise, a good experience.

Outstanding experience even for a jaded New Yorker

I spend a lot of time on the waters around New York City - kayaking, ferries, water taxis, Circle Line - and the schooner Adirondak is one of the best on-water experiences I've had. It was a moderately breezy day, and the crew set all the sails. We tacked down to the Statue of Liberty, heeling over enough that we had to hang on to keep from sliding to the deck rails. Then a straight run back past Chelsea piers, and more tacking to return to the dock. Lots of opportunity to see other vessels and the skylines, Statue, Ellis Island, etc. Crew was extremely competent and friendly. Plan your trip to go on a day when the breeze is at least 8 mph so you get some good sailing in!

A great trip, but I wish there had been more wind
Sun, Jul 16, 06   8:30 PM yodude711 Male 20-29 Local Individual
The city lights tour was really cool. We pulled out of the dock right around sunset and sailed down the Hudson as the city began to light up for the night. Lying barefoot on the foredeck, staring at the night sky with its own lights, the stars, I could just edge out of my vision all the surrounding skyscrapers and pretend I was somewhere in the middle of the Pacific. It was beautiful. The only downside to the trip was that there was not enough wind to move under sail power alone, so the noisy engine had to work the whole time. But on the foredeck, it was just quiet enough. Loved it.

This was a great way to see New York and get a really good look at the Statue of Liberty. The crew was very friendly and willing to answer questions.
