nice family time

Crew and captain were as wonderful as the ship itself. My 7 year old was concerned by the fact that sailboats lean. He was certain we were doomed. However, that was only on the way out. At that time he was heard to say, "I don't like being on the water." On the way back in, he looked at me - amazed - and said, "I like it, I like being on the water." That, I think is priceless.

We caught a perfect day. My wife even took the helm for several minutes on her very first sailing experience. Lots of fun

My husband , myself, our nephew & his wife have made it an annual tradition to sail on the Adirondack during the July 4th weekend for about the last 10 years. We look forward to the 90 minute cruise to relax and have a few very reasonably priced drinks while soaking in the sun and appreciating the magnificent ocean views. The crew are friendly and the captain seems knowledgable of the local history. The price of the sail is reasonable & seniors are entitled to a discount which is nice in todays' economy. I hope that next year we can go on the evening sail to see the fire works from the harbor which I think would be quite spectacular. Unfortunately they were sold out this year - so maybe next year. Again, it is a very enjoyable sail! Norm & Jo-Ann King, North Kingstown, RI

I took my girlriend out on her 47th birthday, and she hasn't stopped talking about the amazing time she had. I don't remember the Captains name but being a sailor myself I have to comment on his knowledge of the water and more specifically the bay. The crew was very helpul and courteous, they also were very polite with their conversations. I was already planning my next sail before I was off the boat.

Great Afternoon

My husband and I wanted to do something different in Newport than just go out to lunch for our anniversary. It was not a long trip but we enjoyed being able to get out on the water and enjoy the beautiful weather. We met another family from the area who also wanted to do something different for their father for fathers day. Everyone seemed to have a good time. The captain and the crew were friendly and knew alot of history of the local landmarks in the area. We were also lucky to be out for the beginning of the Newport to Bermuda race. We tried to coax the captain to join the race and to continue on to Bermuda but sorry to say we had to return to the pier. I would recommend this trip for anyone who enjoys the ocean and would like to see Newport from a different view.

This is a great tour you don't want to miss. A schooner brings back all the romance of sailing.

Excellent Tour

My wife and I were lucky enough to book a trip last weekend for a 1.5 hour tour around the harbor. It was a beautiful day and could not have been a better experience. The captain and crew were extremely personable and helpful. They had beer and wine available for $1 which must be the best deal in town. My recommendations would be: 1. Sit near the captain and 2. order tickets early. We (luckily) ordered ours online and the tours were all sold out for the afternoon by noon of that day. I would highly recommend this as a great way to spend a few hours if you get the chance.

OK but not what we expected

When we compared this sailing to the one we took on Cape Cop a couple years ago, this one fell a bit short. We thought we would go out a bit beyond the bay, but instead stayed within the bay area. There wasn't much wind so I don't know how much that affected where we ventured as we seemed to use the motors quite frequently. The crew was wonderful and polite. The captain providing details and descriptions along the route was interesting but hard to hear. He didn't seem to have a very loud voice. Also, the ice chest rumbling when one of the deck hands retrieved beer bottles prevented us from hearing more clearly. The time out in the water was perfect and on-time.

Tremendous experience

We don't live far from Newport and get down there a few times per year. We always wanted to try a harbor sail cruise and finally took the time to do so this past weekend. I can't say enough what a great experience it was. Booking it was easy, the crew was great, the price was reasonable, and the experience was a memory we'll never forget. The boat leaves from Bowen's wharf, motors out a couple minutes to get clear of other boats, and then sets sail. On our day the wind and sun were perfect, offering an exciting but stable ride. The crew provides stories about the local landmarks as you pass, and keeps the $1 drinks flowing if you'd like. Beer, wine, and soda are $1 and water is free. The sail is exciting, and for the very old and very young you'll want to caution them ahead of time on how to move around a boat under sail. The boat does heel 45 degrees or so when under sail, if you want things to be level (and boring) then a motorboat harbor cruise might be more your speed. If you are looking for an exciting and romantic adventure, then this is the trip for you.

Adirondack II afternoon cruise highly recommended

Took cruise on Adirondack II with 2 boys, aged 9 and 11. The captain and crew were friendly, accommodating and kind. Captain and crew were knowledgeable about area and willingly shared all they knew. Captain interacted well with boys and gave them a lot of information about boats and sailing. They even got to steer! The 9 year old even wants to begin sailing lessons! The crew certainly took notice of all passengers and made every attempt to keep all engaged, comfortable and happy! If you want to cruise the harbor-consider the Adirondack II.
