My boyfriend and I both enjoyed our afternoon sail on the Schooner Adirondack II.
Positives about the tour: I loved being out under sail for almost the entire time (just under power when maneuvering in and out of the wharf), the tour groups aren't huge (est. 40 passengers), and the crew are personable, and the Newport Stormies mixed by the crew members were tas-ty and reasonably priced at $4/drink. I highly recommend a tour on the Adirondack II (from Albany, NY, woot!) with only a few caveats:
- A 90 minute boat tour may sound like a long time, but it was so beautiful out that I wished it had been 2x as long.
- While I enjoyed listening to the Captain share stories about other boats, mansions and properties that we sailed by, my boyfriend and about 1/2 of the ship was out of earshot. It was nice that you didn't have to hear a tour schpiel if you didn't want to - but those who are into that kind of thing may be disappointed.
- As mentioned above, at ~40 passengers it was a friendly environment, but if you're going for a romancy-type thing I recommend a smaller or private tour. |

The sail was great! The "mate" spent a lot of time with us - sharing stories of some of the houses, towns, etc. - lots of history and very informative. Smooth ride, beautiful weather. truly enjoyable! |

Too bad that we sailed into a rain storm leaving us soaking wet! Had to cancel dinner reservations that night due to a lack of dry clothing for dinner. I just wish they would have cautioned us beforehand. Down below were the cushions for the seats, so they must have known it would rain. After the rain stopped we were offered free drinks, too little too late. Poor public relations on your part. |

A visit to Newport should include a harbor sail, and this excursion was a good option at a reasonable price. |
