The crew was very attentive. Nice touch to provide beverages (water free, beer and wine for a nominal charge - 1$), Well worth the price.

The captain was so fun to talk to, and the crew was very attentive. A beautiful ship...a must do while in Newport!

I drove in from NY and wanted to take my boyfriend out for a nice night. I am originally from RI so I knew these tours existed. I loved it and so did he. He enjoyed the fact that we could have a drink on the boat and that the cost was so cheap. I also have to say that the two girls and captain were very nice. It was a great way to see part of Newport.

Pick a day with good wind

The Aiderondeck II is an awesome vessel, especially if one has never been on a ship under sail which is over 90 feet in length. It is definitely inspiring to watch the crew go about their work as they maneuver in criss-crossing the Bay. (The beverage service was more than adequate with complimentary water and inexpensively-priced soft beverages and beers.) We purchased tickets online within 90 minutes of our sailing time, and the process was smooth with no glitches, hence, we actually could have chosen a better time-of-day to maximize the wind for sailing had we not been locked into that particular morning to take our guests out on a sight-seeing trip around the Newport Harbor. Unfortunately, we picked a day that delivered less than moderate winds, in fact, the skipper of the boat had to start the diesel engine while trolling back to the harbor just to overcome the effects of a slacking tide while still in the RI sound. Alas, that is the luck of the draw; nonetheless, it proved to be a most enjoyable cruise with a very knowledgeable skipper who was able to fill the time with informative stories and candid conversation.

Wonderful, peaceful

Unfortunately it was too calm for a "total" sail so the captain opted to use the "iron sails" frequently-which brought us out further into the bay but wasn't as quiet as we would have liked, but otherwise it was great. Would recommend this activity highly.

Nice

This is a nice slow trip around the harbor. You are sailing so your speed may depend on the wind. I thought we'd go out into the open ocean, but the launch is too far from the harbor entrance, so be aware of what you are getting. Again, distance traveled could depend on the wind speed. The sailors were nice and had some interesting stories about the structures around the harbor.

To keep it short and sweet this was our second year visiting newport and we totally missed out on a sail boat tour the first time around but luckily we found the adirondack II and found out what newport is really about....the crew was extremely friendly and knowledgeable and the booze is only a BUCK!

Best thing to do in Newport!

The mansion tours are nice, but the sunset cruise on the Adirondack II was AMAZING! I live in Newport, and my parents were here visiting from Indiana. We decided to take the Adirondack II cruise following a friend's recommendation. I'm SO glad we did! The schooner was comfortable and well-maintained, and the crew members were quite skilled and very friendly (especially after an entire day of sailing!). We sat at the back of the boat where the captain was, and we had a fascinating discussion with him throughout the entire cruise. He explained many of the landmarks and their history, and he answered our questions with a great deal of enthusiasm. This experience was definitely well-priced, and the cruise lasted the full hour and a half and even a little more (probably about an hour and 45 minutes total). I will definitely take the sunset cruise again, and I will recommend it to all who visit Newport! WONDERFUL!

The sail was wonderful, the captain was very informative (put a mic on him and let others hear the description of what is being seen), and the crew was very helpful.

wonderful ride

I took my Dad on this trip for his birthday last year and we enjoyed it so much that we went again this year. Last year we took the 1:00 sail, this year we took the 11 a.m. sail. I would reccommend the afternoon sail times, there is better wind. The early sail this year didn't have much wind and we were at a standstill at some points. The trip is quite relaxing and enjoyable but if you want a good ride, go for the afternoon trips when the winds are better! We will happily do this again!

Adirondack II- A relaxing day touring Newport
Sat, Jul 19  3:00 PM nordica4 Female 40-49 Local Couple on a Date
My husband and I recently sailed aboard the Adirondack II. Being that we live only 40 minutes away from Newport, we figured it would be a great way to enjoy the ocean and see the familiar sites. We were able to learn alot that we didn't already know about Newport from our knowledgeable captain. We have seen the Newport mansions along Ocean Drive, but it was a great view to see them aboard the sail. A special treat was seeing Norwegian Cruise Line docked nearby. The Adirondack II is well worth the $27 per person charge, and they also have $1.00 soft drinks, beer, and wine. I look forward to returning for another relaxing day sail.
