Fun cruise!
Sat, Apr 11  3:00 PM kgerloff Female 20-29 Local Group of Friends
I live with 4 other girls and we decided to bring all our parents in for Easter weekend and the cruise was one of the activities for Saturday. We had a blast on teh cruise as did our parents; it was a great time to relax, drink beer, and just enjoy the Charleston harbor. Everyone had so much fun!

Wonderful stress free way to see the city

I have been a sailor for years and have my own boat. So why would I pay to spend two hours on someone else's boat in the harbor? Because I never get to enjoy the view when I'm the captain on my own boat! The day we sailed, the wind was blowing a good 20 - 25 knots, gusting to 30. The captain and crew made everyone feel at ease in these conditions by judiciously managing the sail plan so that everyone could enjoy their experience. We watched a lovely sloop sail past, all sails up, rail down in the water, at hull speed. OK. It's fun, if you know what you're doing, but it's not fun for your passengers if they haven't had experience, and it's not much fun being captain and having the responsibility for your boat and your passengers and crew. My hat is off the the captain, whose sound management made the experience enjoyable, and to the crew, who were courteous and friendly to all on board. These were not "boat snobs." These were professionals who loved what they do. And it showed.

Sail Away!

I loved the schooner ride! We had great weather, nearing sunset. The ship itself is beautiful, the crew knowledgeable and friendly. We saw dolphins swimming nearby us. The beauty of the sails, the wind in your hair, the quiet as she skimmed along --wish it could have lasted longer!

pleasant given the weather conditions however...

the brochure mentioned helping hoist the sails, but that wasn't mentioned on the trip. possibly the weather conditions prevented that from happening. my 14 year old would have enjoyed some of the 'hands-on' that the brochure mentioned. and I would still recommend the sailing trip. it was pleasant to sail around the harbor.

Rainy and cloudy, but otherwise fun!

If it was a calmer, nicer day, the trip would have been great. The crew and captain treated all very well, and were very attentive. I would definitely take this boat ride again!

My boyfriend and I went on the afternoon sail, and loved the friendly crew, the beautiful scenery, dolphins and chance to relax on the water. A great deal for the money!

Great experience for our first time to Charleston. Not something you'd do every weekend but definately worth doing once. The crew was very friendly and attentive. Had a great time.

Wonderful afternoon sailing the harbor

I had discovered the Schooner Pride while surfing the internet for events and activities happening in Charleston before we went down for our weeklong vacation. It immediately became one of my goals for the week, with an eye on the weather reports as the time came closer. I finally decided that Saturday was going to be the most promising day and made my reservation online on Tuesday of that week from my wife's laptop. The weather turned out to be perfect, and this landlubber got to the dock about 30 minutes early. After meeting several other passengers and some interesting conversation while we were waiting, the crew finally started the boarding process and we chose our places on the deck. My wife had declined to come with me (for fear of seasickness), but she was the one who missed out on a wonderful time! The protected waters of the harbor kept any wave action to a minimum, and the sailing was extremely smooth. I got to help raise one of the sails, and just the experience of being under sail with no motor sound and the conversation with the crew and the other passengers, both locals and tourists like me, was one of the highlights of my week. There were a lot of other boats on the water that day, and the mate explained to us how to tell if two sailboats were racing each other (if they are in sight of each other, then they most likely ARE!) We saw dolphins several times along the way, and once had one surface right beside the boat, as if to check us out. All in all, I was very pleased with the trip, and will probably try to book it again the next time we are in Charleston. Maybe a sunset trip next time. John W. Weaverville, NC

Highlight of Our Charleston Weekend
Sun, Mar 29  6:00 PM LMcKenzie Male 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
Our brief excursion on the Schooner Pride was the highlight of our weekend with friends in Charleston, SC. First, our sunset sail had perfect conditions for us to experience the thrill of sailing ... clear moderate weather with blustery winds. Needless to say, we moved through the water at a brisk, smooth pace. The views/perspectives from our in-harbor vantage point were awesome and certainly different than being land-locked. We saw great views of the homes along the battery, historic forts, the USS Yorktown, and sailing under the bridge. Best of all were the sunset views we saw from the schooner. The captain and crew were experienced, professional, and engaging with each passenger. We knew this was not a narrated historic tour; however, the crew were more than happy to answer any questions we had between their busy work of hoisting sails and changing direction. We would definitely take the opportunity to sail the Schooner Pride again. Our only regret, was that the two hours flew by before we were ready to stop sailing.

Major highlight of our trip
Sun, Mar 22  6:00 PM annewhite Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
My 21 year old son, his fiance and I spent a wonderful 2 hours on board this beautiful ship, the Schooner Pride. My son helped raise two of the sails and I'm sure he will remember that for years to come! It was a chilly evening in mid March but plenty of warm, fuzzy blankets were provided. My only complaint was that there were only cold drinks. Hot coffee or chocolate would have been great! We stayed inside the harbor so don't expect to go out into the Atlantic. The crew were informative, helpful and eager. We saw dolphins out in the harbor in addition to the expected landmarks. To sail under canvas with no mechanical power is a once in a lifetime experience for most of us and we reveled in the entire experience. The price was well worth the experience and I plan to repeat the trip when I next visit Charleston. Run don't walk to the Schooner Pride.

Prances with Porpoises

I bought tickets to this event for a six month anniversary outting and I would definitely recommend it. The crew were very nice without being overbearing. If there was something of interest, they would point it out but this event is by far not a narrated tour. Quiet, peaceful, the views were great and you are bound to see dolphins. It is just an overall great start or end to an evening. Go sailing and then go and get dinner and drinks, or, get dinner, pack a dessert and go sailing.

Beautiful Views; Personable Crew
Fri, Mar 20  6:00 PM susanwhinery Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
We went on the Pride's maiden voyage of the season in mid-March--a bit chilly. I'd wait until it's warmer. That said, the trip itself was delightful. We sailed at 6:00 p.m., so enjoyed the harbor sunset and the occasional dolphin surfacing near the schooner. My husband had an opportunity to help raise one of the sails and found it to be great fun as well. Don't count on the crew for in-depth historical knowledge. Their common knowledge is terrific, but they were often stumped by more specific questions. Remember that it's much cooler on the water than on land, so dress accordingly.

Steeples in the Sunset- beautiful!
Fri, Mar 20  6:00 PM fehrere Male 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
Our trip was the Pride's first sunset cruise of the 2009 season, and the crew worked well together to give us an enjoyable and safe trip. My sister and I agreed that it could have been ten degrees warmer and thirty minutes shorter, but the sunset was spectacular!
