Peace at last!

Finally, a wonderful bit of peace in our hectic lives! The sun going down, the soft sounds of the water, the sails billowing above...peace! Now when I need to imagine a peaceful place in my life, I'll reflect back on this calm evening!

Pleasant sail

This was a pleasant sail with my husband and my parents. My husband and I have sailed in several other areas (Camden, ME; Annapolis, MD; Chicago, IL) on replicas and authentic ships and found this cruise to be almost as enjoyable. Other sails have included a snack and beverage, but that precludes bringing a picnic or your own snacks as the Schooner Pride allows which is a nice option. This particular sail was a sunset sail and the sunset was beautiful. There wasn't a lot of wind this evening, so the sail was a bit slow and probably involved a bit more engine than we would have liked. My husband was also a bit disappointed to see a metal mast rather than wood. The sail did not go out around the Battery as I would have liked. It would have been nice to see the water front Charleston homes from the water, but going out further is no doubt required to get the wind. The crew was very nice and informative. They'll answer any questions or will just start sharing historical information which was great. Overall, probably not my favorite sail, but very pleasant and well worth the cost and time spent. A nice evening event that offers a change from just wandering the streets of Charleston.

great way to see Charleston

I had never sailed before so this was really neat for me. It's not really a guided tour, but the captain and mates are knowledgeable and personable. We didn't have good breeze, so we didn't sail the whole time but that was okay. You gotta work with what you're given! :)

Relaxing

Very relaxing which is what we wanted. For other than locals, it may would have been nice to have someone explaining what we were passing. They answered questions, but did very little talking on thier own.

Waste of time!!
Sat, Sep 27, 08   6:00 PM rssteele42 Male 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
This was a terrible waste of time. 1. The dock was not easy to find. 2. The boat was uncomfortable and crowded 3. There was no way to hear any of the announcements or description of the area unless you were sitting very close to the captain. (no P.A. system). 4. The majority of the "cruise" was under power, not sail. 5. The crew spent most of their time selling drinks. 6. Two hours was way!!! too long. 7. For what you got, the price was way too high.

WEereally enjoyed our trip. The Captain and crew were great, and the cost of beverages on board were more than fair. Thanks for making our vacation one to remember.

Fabulous Sunset

We decided on the evening cruise to favor the weather. It was everything we thought it might be and more. When the crew ran up the sails and the skipper turned off the diesel auxiliary engine, the silence was the sound of sailing. We sailed across the harbor toward Fort Sumter, which was our turn around point on the sail. As we turned the sun was just beginning to set. Due to the light breezes we were able to spend a wonderful amount of time watching as the sun dipped slowly in the west. The sky turned beautiful shades of red, yellow and orange. The captain and crew appeared very experienced. They made the trip extremely enjoyable by explaining much of what they were doing. Liquid refreshments were greatly appreciated. We both thought the experience was one to add to a Bucket List and would do this again!

Fantastic Charleston Harbor Ride
Mon, Sep 22, 08   3:00 PM sddexter Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
Seeing the Charleston Harbor while under sail is the only way to go. Hearing the wind whip through the sails and NOT hearing the whine of an engine makes for a relaxing tour. The Captain and crew were very hospitable and knowledgeable about the harbor history and Charleston as a whole. As an added bonus we were fortunate to see a dolphin jump several times as we left the dock -- very relaxing, very enjoyable and highly recommend!

Very relaxing and enjoyable

My friends and I enjoyed this tour. Although there was a strong breeze, the sailing was smooth and very relaxing. We enjoyed seeing the various landmarks and learning about some of them from the captain of the Schooner Pride. The sunset was beautiful and it was great to the the lighted bridge at night. Thanks very much!

Relaxing Cruise
Sat, Sep 20, 08   3:00 PM jhd2jhd2 Male 30-39 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
Our group of 6 enjoyed the cruise. It was very relaxing, but not a typical tourist attraction. The crew was happy to discuss points of interest, but only when prompted. I recommend familiarizing yourself with the city first (with carriage rides and walking tours), then take the cruise to get a view of the city from the Pride.

The trip and crew were great. It was nice being able to purchase wine/beer/soda but it would be very nice if there were some type of light appetizers / Hor' Durves served. We would be willing to pay a bit more if something like this was available.
