Not as up to par as last time

We rode the Schooner Pride 4 years ago with German business associates and felt that the Pride was in better shape then. This time we noticed alot of flaking paint and felt it was not in ship shape condition overall. Another schooner happened to be in the vicinity and it looked so crisp and awesome. The Pride looked a bit tired/worn out. Also the crew were not as interactive and informative this time - more on the quiet side. It would have made the trip more interesting if they interacted more with the passengers and given us information about the different sites. We didn't need a running commentary, but highights would have been welcome. 4 years ago they even encouraged passengers to help out at the helm if they so desired. Last time they sailed along the homes of Battery Park which provided a great overview of the residential area from the water - but again, not this time. However, last week the wind was stronger ,so in fairness, a bit more time was needed to handle the sails. This did make for a more exciting sail, but definitely not an informative one. We had to seek out a crew member if we had a question. (and were encouraged to do so during the orientation) , but without input from them, we didn't have any information about which to ask quesitons. For the first time visitors to Charleston we had with us. this was not a good way to learn more about Charleston. This can add a wonderful dimension to any visit to Charleston - but I would encourage them to keep up the high standards that we have experienced in the past. .

Nice Experience

As a family that has never been on a sail boat before we enjoyed it. We would have liked a bit of local sight seeing descriptions, but overall it was very enjoyable. We are glad that we did it on our recent trip.

Crew friendly; sail boring due to "weather conditions" the sail did not include The Battery, which would have been a high-light of the trip; we instead, basically circled in the same spot 2 - 3 times before heading back to dock.

Great experience with family and friends

Sailing on the Pride lets you tour the harbor while enjoying the experience of being on a real sailing vessel. It really fits in with the historical character of Charleston much better than the regular harbor tour boats. We had beautiful weather and it truly felt like we were riding the wind. I would especially recommend the sunset cruise. Our only complaint was that there was no one to tell us about the sights we were seeing and, while the brochure advertises that passengers may help sail the vessel, we were not offered this opportunity. Still, it was a wonderful experience; just hold on to your hats and enjoy the ride!

I can not honestly suggest any thing that would improve your product. When we got off we were discussing other friends we would like to attend with us on future trips.

Unfortunately the day we purchased tickets there was absolutly no wind in the harbor. We were under motor all the time. Took away from the experience but no fault of the Schooner Pride. Crew was friendly and polite. Will try again on a better day.

Great experience, but trouble scheduling

We had scheduled the 1 pm tour. We decided to walk from our hotel. We walked more than 10 blocks to get there only to discover that our trip had been canceled. There were not enough people scheduled. We rescheduled for the next evening at 5:30. It would have been nice to know ahead of time that there was a possibility of cancellation. After the initial difficulty, we thoroughly enjoyed our trip. Sunset was gorgeous.

The crew and the schooner were great! There was plenty of wind and the temperature was perfect. The sunset was spectacular. Just wish we could have sailed further out than the tip of the peninsula. We tached back and forth from the Cooper River Bridge to Castle Pinckney.

Charleston from a whole new view

I travel to Charleston several times a year. I know the area very well but this was the first time on the harbor. My wife travelled with me on this trip and we thought this would be a great evening event. WE WERE RIGHT. This was our first time sailing and the Pride was large enough not to be tossed around on the water. The views from the harbor gave a whole new perspective to the beauty of Charleston. I think the best part was going under the Ravenal Bridge at sundown. The sky turned the most vibrant colors and the pictures we got of the rigging, bridge, moon and stars are amazing. You will see more of the harbor if you take a power boat, but we were the envy of those on the powered boats based on the number of pictures they were taking of us. Highly Reccomend going on the PRIDE.

It was a good time ...

Our family enjoyed the sail. Being on the boat was a real thrill !! I let them know ahead of time we were sailing as a birthday wish of my daughers. I wish they would have acknowledged her and her birthday. The crew was friendly. They answered questions when they were asked - however, no information was offered. Two of the crew took personal calls on their cell phones while we were on the water. They spent a great deal of time talking among themselves - maybe they should spend a little more time showing guests the boat, etc. I would recommed the sail - the boat. The crew - I would like to have a little more interaction with guests.
