A wonderful time!

We had a great time. We left a few minutes late (7:20), but overall the experience was worth the time and money. We sailed to Fort Sumter, some of the way there and back under power, but much of the time the sails were up. We were excited to see dolphins and plenty of pelicans searching for their dinner. The sunset was beautiful! The crew was very knowledgeable and very willing to answer any questions we had. It was nice that we did not have to listen to a scripted description of our trip. The price of beer/wine was a little high. We would do this again and would recommend it to others. Very relaxing and enjoyable after a long day touring Charleston.

Enjoyable

The sail was very nice, we had calm waters and good wind on the way out but we were under power on the way out and only sailed back part of the way to the dock. I would have liked to do more actual sailing but it was a pleasant trip. The only negative was it was hard to understand what the captain was saying--he's a mumbler but we have been to Charleston on vacation every year for the last 5 years so we are already familiar with the sites.

Not much of a sail

Fairly boring as sails go. Although there was wind, the crew didn't seem too interested in making this a fun sail.

Enjoyable, scenic outing

My husband and I enjoyed the afternoon sail on the Schooner Pride. It was comfortable, relaxing, and a nice way to get out on the water. The crew involved some volunteers to help put up the sails which was nice. We would have liked a little narration on where we were going and what we were seeing, but they did try to answer questions when asked. I'd recommend this excursion to couples and families.

A Great Afternoon "At Sea"

I suppose the first thing out of the gate would be to say that we had a great time, I, of course, as the wannabe sailor, had the best time, but my wife liked being on the boat, seeing the pelicans and dolphins, and, of course, the beer. The Pride boasts, among her other amenaties, a cash bar. My sister also had a good time, enjoying seeing the city from a new perspective, as she’d never been on a harbor tour either. Our crew was friendly and competent. Given a choice, I would have preferred a narrated tour, but there was no script. Mostly we cruised the harbor. When there was something of particular interest, such as the dolphins, or Fort Sumpter, or Castle Pickney, the worlds most frustrated fort, they would point it out. They were also very responsive to questions. But I think that a narrated tour would have been more fun. I did learn something. If I opt for a radical career change, crewing a tall ship means spending at least half your time as a waiter. The Pride has a well-stocked cooler of domestic and imported beers, a small selection of wines and sodas, and plenty of water, so thirst was no problem. And the crew remained gracious, no matter how many times K and I sent them back down the hatch for more beer. Regards, Bill

As I boarded the boat I was skeptical because it was very windy that evening but once we got going the wind didn't seem to be such a big deal. I enjoyed listening to the sails as the wind caught them from time to time. It was fascinating watching the crew put them up and lower them and all that they did in between. I even got to help raise one of them. I would recommend this sail to anyone who wanted a great adventure since I enjoyed it very much.

The sunset cruise out of Charleston,S.C. was a very enjoyable activity, that is well suited for everyone of all ages. The crew was friendly and knowledgeable, and always willing to answer any questions put to them. The passengers are invited to help put the sails up,or take them down, which is a very nice thing to do for those who have a particular interest in sailing, and want to learn how things work on the vessel. There are many sights to see on the sail, including pelicans and porpoises, aircraft carriers and forts, shorelines and skylines. The best part of all however, was the gentleness and quiet of the water once the sails filled with those wonderful southern evening breezes.I would highly recommend this activity for anyone visiting the Charleston area.

Loved it, but have two suggestions......
Fri, Jul 10  7:00 PM Kinser Female 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
This was a great cruise! Two things would have made it better......the ship needs to go close enough to Fort Sumter to see it. We did not get close at all. Also, a "tip" receiver should be placed promenenly so that the Captain does not feel led to actually "ask" for tips....and to say that this is how his crew is paid. To have the crew stand there with their hands out really took the hospitality edge off of the cruise.

Gentlemen, is there a lady you really like? Take her out on the schooner. You'll see her eyes light up like a kid on Christmas morning. You'll be a hero. Trust me. Ladies, is your old man a stick in the mud? Take him out on this sailing ship. Let him pretend to be a pirate. The view of the city from the sea makes the whole trip to Charleston worthwhile. Don't miss it.
