A fun Sail on the river

My hubby and I picked a sunny day to sail the York river on the Schooner Aliance. Being a local, we had seen the tall ships many times, we had just never thought of doing it ourselves. I am so glad we finially took the plunge, so to speak. We where greeted by a friendly, knowledgeable crew and were even able to help out in hoisting the sails. There might have been about 15 or so sightseers on board so there was till plenty of room to move around. The trip was fun and educational, I would do it again. I think my favorite part was sailing under the Coleman Bridge, it was just spectacular

This is a great experience, especially if you have never been on a sailing vessel. The Alliance is very steady and the Captain is knowledgeable about the area and the history. There was plenty of room to move around and you could help with raising the sails if you like. The other crew members were very friendly, especially the one who tended the galley since that is where most of the kids stayed and he had a lot of patience.

Informational as well as entertaining

During our two hour cruise up the York River, the schooner's pilot provided historical information about the many landmarks located along the banks of the River as well as those visible nearby. He was willing to share his knowledge of the area and was able to answer questions of the attendees on the cruise. Overall it was a very enjoyable experience.

Very Informative Crew

Although the ads are careful to keep our expectations down (this is NOT a guided or narrated cruise), the crew members offered a substantial amount of unsolicited information about the vessel as well as some sites along the river. Inviting guests to help hoist (is that the right word?) the sails was great!

Our trip on the Alliance Schooner on the York River was very pleasant. My father, who is 90, was with us and the crew was very helpful in getting him situated. Captain Greg was very personable and knowledgeable and we enjoyed the voyage very much. We look forward to doing it again when there is a little more wind to power the sails.

Perfect Sailing aboard the Alliance

June 3rd was beautiful day, just enough of wind to carry us across the york river and back! My husband and I spend every anniversary aboard the Alliance, having to miss the chance on our wedding day (the rain and waves decided we were not to sail that day)...and we love it every year!!! The Captain and his crew are very nice, and professional, and the boat is absolutely beautiful! I highly recommend this sail for everyone, ...young and old!!!! Thanks so much Captain Mayhem! :)
