We were looking for something fun to do other than history. Found this wonderful sailboat cruise and thoroughly enjoyed it. Crew was great, boat is nice and long and tall. You can even help rig up the sails. Hated to see the ride end, it was so much fun and relaxing. Highly recommend.

We went on the 2-4 p.m. sail on a sunny windy day. Perfect conditions! The crew was friendly and gave background on the history of the area and was happy to answer any questions about the boat and about sailing in general. It's a schooner so, as the crew said "it's built for speed" which means that it keels sharply in the wind. This was fun for most of us, but our elderly mom wasn't too into that part of it!

We sailed on the Schooner Alliance. It was a wonderful activity. The weather of course played a key part -- bright sun, slight breeze, comfortable temperature and low humidity. The crew was friendly, funny, and helpful. The young lady (from Connecticut) who taught us how to identify a schooner was delightful. Her factual information, laced with at humor at every turn, set the tone for the entire trip. The only thing that would have made it better is if we had sailed under the bridge up the river and back as the cruise before ours and the one after ours did. We seemed to sail just a ways down river and then spent the rest of the time more-or-less crossing from one side of the river to the other and then returning to the dock. All in all, a very relaxing couple of hours, which is just what we were looking for. We highly recommend it. Oh yes, the dolphins were frosting on the cake!!

A Perfect Day for a Cruise on the York River

My daughter and I wanted to do something different when she was visiting me recently here in Poquoson, VA. We decided on the Schooner Alliance Cruise down the York River. We were very impressed by the hospitality and knowledge of our three person crew! They invited us to help with opening the sails and spent most of the cruise conversing with the passengers. My daughter and I really liked all the historical tidbits the crew offered. It gave us a very different perspective of the area and how fortunate we are to live in and enjoy this beautiful and important part of our American heritage! Thank you to our crew on the Schooner Alliance for a truly wonderful adventure!

I bought tickets for a birthday gift for my husband to sail on the Alliance. We also took our children who are 6 and 8 years old. We really enjoyed our time on the ship learning how to hoist the sails and listening to the crew talk about the schooner. It was very interesting and the crew was so friendly ! We would recommend this to everyone. As a side note - this was my first sailing experience -I am used to riding on boats with engines. Sailing ships are obviously much slower and are at the mercy of the wind to move forward. If you are expecting a fast boating experience this would not be for you, but if you are looking for a unique experience that enlightens you to the hardship of the settlers from England to Jamestown then you wont be disappointed. Thanks to the crew!

My husband & I were celebrating our upcoming wedding anniversary weekend in Colonial Williamsburg, VA. I was reading through the local information books of things to do...when the ad for The Alliance caught my eye. My husband & I had never been on a sail boat, let alone a 105 foot tall ship and we were excited about the new adventure. I felt the cost of the two hour excursion ($30 per person) was well worth it. Our crew: Sarah, Matt & Captain Greg were very knowledgeable about the local history. It was fascinating watching the crew hoist the sails (they asked for volunteers to help, if we wanted to) to prepare for our cruise. The day was overcast, but we still enjoyed the ride. Just the feeling of the wind in my hair, the fresh air and the new experience of sailing was very relaxing and just what I needed after a crazy work week. The crew were very safety conscious and explained all the necessary rules to make it an enjoyable experience. I did not want the experience to end. I wholeheartedly recommend this activity to anyone and everyone. You will have the time of your life!
