This was a very pleasant sail on a tall ship. Crew members were personable and knowledgeable and we were encouraged to ask them questions. We also were able to help hoist the sails. |

All but one of our group had never sailed before so it was a first adventure for us. We had younger children with us and they had so much fun helping raise the jib sail and steering the schooner for a few minutes. The adults had a super time just enjoying the experience. We had some wind so were completely under sail most of our journey. I would recommend this especially to others who have not sailed before to experience sailing at least once in their lives. |

Our sail on the Alliance was relaxing, beautiful & informative. The crew was knowledgeable of the area (shared some history). They were friendly and gave everyone a chance to take part in the raising of the sails. We enjoyed the trip and would do it again. |

AFTER PARKING AND WALKING DOWN THE HILL TOWARDS THE RIVER WE NOTICED THE TALL MASTS OF THE SCHOONER ALLIANCE AT THE RIVERS EDGE. WE DECIDED ON THE SPUR OF THE MOMENT TO GET TICKETS AND GO FOR THE FIRST SAIL OF THE DAY. THE SUN WAS OUT BUT THE WINDS WERE LIGHT, THE CREW WAS WILLING AND THE OTHER GUESTS WERE AMMICABLE. WE ALL HAD A GREAT ITIME IN THE SHORT TIME WE SPENT TOGETHER. WOULD RECOMEND THIS SAIL TO ANYONE.

The crew was extremely friendly and taking the boat ride added a nice dimension to the day's activities. Just one thought ... you might want to think about playing some pleasant music while the boat ride is in progress ... that would certainly add to the atmosphere. Thank you for a great experience! |

We had a great crew, they were very friendly, chatting away with all of us. We liked the way they told jokes and made us laugh.
The captain spoke about the area, but we wish he would've had a microphone for everybody to hear him...... It would be great to have a full "narrative" as we sailed.....was that the power plant or the refinery? Tell us more about the Victory Monument, the swing bridge, Gloucester........etc. Tell us stories about Pochahontas and the history of these sailing vessels...... It would've been great to have them play the song, "What do you do with a drunken sailor........" and other such sailing and pirate things........
Everything was neat and clean, but some of us would have preferred cushions to sit on......the wood benches were very hard after an hour. |

We went on the early afternoon trip (2 p.m. ) with our adult children to celebrate our daughter's birthday. Jack and Mary Alice welcomed us aboard and we were soon underway. Our son helped hoist the sails and we were under way. Jack kept up a running commentary letting us know what was going on and telling us about the work on the boat and so forth. We had a gorgeous day--lots of sun and a gentle rock to the boat from the waves on the river. We hated to see the tour end, but as they say all good tings must come to an end.
We emphatically said we would do it again in a heartbeat and I might add that I am somewhat handicapped and use a cane. Jack helped me up the ramp as inclines are especially hard for me to do but with his help and my husband's help it was no problem so don't let any sort of handicap or problem stop you from going. There are many helpin hands aboard.
Thanks for a wonderful afternoon in mid September. |
